NBA 2016-17

How on Earth did Pelicans manage to do this? Kings being the most ridiculous franchise in the history of universe.

The real question though is: why didn't Boston make an attempt for him? They have a lot of resources and they need a big man.

I am surprised they did not get a better offer. Even Portland could have offered them CJ, or just other young players plus two or three picks instead of one. It's not like New Orleans pick is great this season with Boogie and Davis on board, they are probably a playoffs team. Hield is not that great, he is 23 and Crabbe is probably a better player now. We could have given them Crabbe, Aminu, Vonleh and three picks.

Kings get to keep their pick this season as they will tank and not have to give it to Chicago but come on, is this really going to be your one reward for a player like Cousins?

I think Cousins is just considered a cancer in the dressing room and teams did not want to give up much. Still terrible business for Kings, especially as he was going to re-sign there and they could have got A LOT more.

Rumors from David Aldridge that we will be very active around deadline and that our three picks could get us anyone. Names mentioned are Paul George and Jimmy Butler. Very interesting but no chance in hell it happens. We might get someone slightly less great.

Wow! I haven't even heard any rumours about Cousins to Pelicans.

Hopefully this means Celtics will go all in for Butler

You have to wonder if Kings front office has any kind of touch with reality. I mean, don't they even read newspapers? How can you undervalue Cousins so massively? Thats straight robbery from the Pelicans. And even if they go full tank mode, the Sixers own their 2019 first rounder and have the right to swap picks in 2017. That means, the only high draft pick (top 5) they'll have is the 2018 one, that's a worse long term perspective than the Nets.

For the Pelicans it'll be interesting to see if Cousins/Davis work, they need to add a few good players in the summer tho, right now they've those two and Holiday and thats it.

Oh and the All Star Weekend was just horrible. I don't even bother to watch the ASG anymore since it has become an uncompetitive chucking festival but I made the mistake to stay up for the dunk contest, which was crap. Even the 3-point contest was subpar, the most entertaining thing was the skill challenge and the Saiger fundraising shooting - says it all really. Although its probably nice to chat with the other players, I don't even think I'd prefer it as a player over the opportunity to spend a week with your family/friends. Biggest thing you'd missed was getting a Barcelona jersey with your name from Ronaldinho.

I thought the actual game was even worse than the Saturday night. It comes to something when the crowd start chanting "defense." It basically boiled down to watching a bunch of guys running up and down the floor shooting or dunking the basketball. Pitiful IMLTHO to be honest!

Oh no doubt about that but I expected that so I didn't even bother to stay up (started 2am in my time zone). But last years dunk contest and the previous 3-point contest gave me hope that at least saturday would be entertaining, which it wasn't really.

I think we reached a point where the top players are too good offensively for a game like this. And it is going to get even worse when the traditional bigs are replaced by the likes of Embiid, Jokic, Towns, etc.

I think Pelicans role players are not that terrible. Moore, Pondexter, Cunningham or Jones can play basketball, they are not world beaters but you don't need more on your bench. They got Casspi from Kings in this deal which is IMO a steal, a good shooter who will be great off the bench.

Getting Holiday to sign back there should be possible after how they supported him earlier this season, he might even take a discount and sign for $15M or something close. If they manage to offload Asik and Hill, they will have around $30M to work with in free agency I think. Looking at their guaranteed salaries for next year are $80M so that would give them $27M of cap space, Hill makes $12M and Asik makes $10M so removing them would give them $49M of cap space plus additional room before luxury tax (I don't really know how to calculate that stuff). Giving Holiday $15M will still give them $30M - $40M to play with.

They will offer a max deal to Paul IMO and if he doesn't take it, will have a look at other guards available - Teague would be a good option, he should be cheaper and can play defense. They should have a look at Lou Williams this season, Lakers want to move him to be able to tank and defend their pick, should be cheap to acquire.

You don't really need amazing backcourt when you have Cousins and Davis in front, only a competent one that can defend and give them the ball. They might even try to lure Gordon Hayward. With Cousins and Davis in the team they will IMO be able to at least get everyone to listen.

I just realized that for Mason Plumlee, who is expiring this year and who we acquired for a late first rounder in 2015, we got a first round pick which will be in the same exact range as the New Orleans pick, and a player who is comfortably as good as Hield at his position and a year younger with more NBA experience. Let that sink in. We got more for Plumlee than Kings got for Cousins. I don't fecking believe it.

And the Kings got fleeced by the Pelicans. Pelicans are usually up there with the Knicks, Kings and Magic in terms of worst run teams in the league but, they completely embarrassed the Kings here.

I have no doubt that Cousins will bolt for FA. The trade lowers his max contract value by $30M which I think makes it more favorable to see what the FA world has to offer as it can come a bit closer to the $180M total compared to say $210M if he had remained in Sacramento.

Then again, if NO suddenly build on the trade and became a quality mid-tier side (say, 3rd-5th), maybe even make a solid run in '17 or '18, he could indeed decide to resign. Would certainly like to see him sign with Dallas but that likely won't happen.

The Kings front-office is just terrible. The funniest thing about their two best draft picks (in retrospect) in Cousins' time is that they were Hassan Whiteside and Isaiah Thomas who were both 2nd round picks  and who they both let go for next to nothing.

Not even next to nothing. Nothing.

Magic could have something to offer, saw him on FirstTake and he seems to be very realistic as it pertains to where we are at right now. He is box office as well, can really put us in the mix for FA signings.

Hopefully it points to a bigger picture of getting good people the Lakers have let go back into the fold, Jerry West springs to mind.

Leave Jerry West alone. He's fine where he is.

The chances of a city like Sacramento landing another all-star who wants to spend his entire career with them are 0. What a colossal mistake.

Indeed. He is the only all star player they've got since the time of Bibby/Webber/Peja. Totally Sacramentish from them to trade him.

Ilyasova to the Hawks for splitter and a second rounder (Miami's 2017, top 40 protected). Second blockbuster trade this week after the Cousins one, watch out Cavs we're coming!

Splitter will be waived, surely?

Ilaysova's what, 5th team in 12 months?

His contract is up this summer and sixers have plenty of cap space so it doesn't really matter anyway. He hasn't played in a year so they're not planning on him and probably just wanted more picks.

Well there we are...

Philadelphia is sending Nerlens Noel to Dallas for Justin Anderson and a first-round draft pick, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Dallas center Andrew Bogut will go to the 76ers in the Noel trade too, league source tells @TheVertical.

The Mavericks have long been intrigued with Noel, and will work to sign him to an extension. Noel's a restricted free agent.

Zach Lowe ‏@ZachLowe_NBA
Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid played 8 minutes together.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine
The Sixers will spend the next three hours trying to find a trade home for Andrew Bogut before contemplating a buyout, league sources say

Yet again we come into trade deadline with loads of cool rumours only to find out that the biggest deal of the day is PJ Tucker to Raptors. Not literally because we also got Gibson to Oklahoma (which will help them greatly this season IMO) and Noel to Dallas.
