NBA 2016-17

Warriors putting up an absolute stinker against a Grizzlies team playing top quality basketball
I don't know what's wrong with them, Curry doesn't look like the same player from last year at all, they also lack a good center, but they still have 4 all star calibre players, it's just so weird.

Durant being so good this season has kind of hidden the fact that the rest of the team haven't been playing upto their level at all. Splash brothers have been really up and down

Let's not ignore the fact that a Grizzlies team missing Conley, Parsons, Ellis, Carter and Wright held Steph, Klay, Durant et al to 89 points while scoring 110. Klay only scored 8 points.

LeBron is the best front court passer I've ever seen. Hornets aren't pushovers but you can't do anything when he plays like that. 17-24 FG and 5-10 3pt!

Top contender for the MVP so far with KD a close second.

Warriors were atrocious yesterday. The team is not playing as good as last season, with only Durant and Green playing in their best level. Curry and Clay are not as good as last season.

The bottling job by Portland was quite remarkable last night. 44 points in the first quarter against Indiana, up by 20 points in the second, up by 15 in the third, still ahead by 8 at the beginning of final quartet and still somehow lost. Did exactly the same at Memphis two days earlier where they dominated for three quarters, were up by 7 with 2 minutes to go and still lost. Having the worst defence in the league certainly does not help. Basically only Lillard, CJ and Harkless have enough quality.

This is the worst performance by the Warriors in the last 3 years.

3rd game on the road and only 24 hours removed from a b2b on the road, it's not really surprising. They also have another game on the road to complete the second road b2b today.

Other than this game they have been fine. Take a look at their game against the clippers ffs.

I actually stopped watching early on because I thought Portland were going to win easily. That's a terrible collapse. Where do you see them finishing?

At this point it's hard to make a prediction because it's pretty much been certain since the beginning of season that what Olshey did in the Summer with free agency was asset accumulation for a future trade and there should be at least one big trade coming. It could be CJ for Cousins (CJ has been so good I'd hate to trade him), or more likely some of players like Aminu, Davis, Crabbe and Leonard for someone else but there will be something happening.

If there is not anything happening then the current team will probably end up about where it is, 8th seed and destroyed by Golden State in the first round. I think all teams currently below are worse but all above are better.

Another loss tonight, at least this time it was close against Clippers and Blazers ran them close until the end. We fell below .500 and I fully expect us to go in that direction for the next 2-3 weeks before maybe getting back to .500 for an extended period of time around mid-January.

Why is big russ obviously denying how much he craves the mvp award a worthy post anyway? No one ever honestly answers that kind of question.

I'd hold back the lame digs if I were you, you lot play him tomorrow.

Well anybody will beat Blazers these days and having triple double against us is not really an achievement when you can rebound pretty much everything and there's absolutely zero rim protection. I'll be shocked if he finishes below 35 points or below 10 rebounds. I write this game off as a loss by default to be honest.

5th game on the road in a row for the warriors in just 7 days. I've seen a lot of bets against them, even against the Pelicans lol

Best game of the season by Blazers. Mr Triple Double did not even manage a Double Double.

Wrong again. :D

Yep and watch how he falls off now. No chance he could have maintained that same intensity for the whole season and he will gas out very soon. He needs to be taught how to preserve himself like LeBron does during the regular season and not go absolutely full throttle in every game, but doing that in turn will ruin his natural aggressiveness and what makes him a great player so it's a difficult choice to make. Plus he didn't have Victor with him in this game which was gonna be a huge loss.

He'll have another burst like he had recently soon enough but similarly they'll end in exhaustion and without him the Thunder is good for nothing, like we saw today.

Realistically the best Thunder can get is 4th seed and they will play hard to get it as it gives homecourt advantage over Memphis, Houston, Utah or whoever they play in the first round of playoffs. Spurs and Warriors will be higher by default, at least one of Rockets and Clippers will too (actually fully expect both to be ahead).

Portland will at best get 7th seed so that will be Spurs. More likely 8th if we make the playoffs and that is feckin Warriors again.

5th would be the best possibility for them - Rockets will surely finish ahead of them. I'm going for 6th though.
I'm still not convinced Rockets are all that.

Being a fan of the Blazers must drive you nuts. I watch them sometimes and they look totally inept - especially defensively. Last night though, you couldn't ask for more. They played really well (and really balanced) on offense with 6 guys in double figures and defensively held OKC to under 40%. Great performance all round.

It was the best performance of season by far. Overall the season has been a bit meh and below expectations but the anticipation for a big January/February trade is there. We cannot trade most of re-signed players until January 15th and they hold the best value (if any), right now we can only trade people like Aminu, Davis, Plumlee and starting tomorrow also Ezeli and Turner who we signed. Turner has got much better since his abysmal start and will probably give us some value off the bench, besides he's just bought an amazing house in Portland so probably expects to stay longer. Ezeli will likely never play NBA game again so he has zero value. In January I am hoping to trade Crabbe for a center (we cannot really keep his $18M contract and he has some value across the league) but with a trade kicker the only viable destination are Philadelphia. Really, really hoping they give us Noel for Crabbe.

Defense has been absolutely abysmal (tied worst in the league with Brooklyn) and rebounding has been much worse than last season. Getting a defensively good center will be top priority and there are two who seem available and fit the bill: Noel (Embiid and Okafor are both ahead of him and Philadelphia won't fancy giving him a massive deal in the Summer) and Nurkic (his playing time has been significantly reduced at Denver and they prefer Jokic). There have been other players linked like Brook Lopez, Vucevic and Monroe but they will only bring scoring, defense will remain inept. Getting a center will allow us to move Plumlee to power forward where I reckon he might thrive - I like what I've seen from him in the last 6-8 months in terms of playmaking and creating shots for other players, those skills will be better utilized at 4 than they are at center but since we have no center, he has to play there.

There's been a lot of talk about McCollum being traded and it has some foundation. Two small guards who cannot defend is nice on the eye but will inevitably lead to frustrating games with 110+ points conceded. Lillard is a franchise player and completely untradeable but if we could include McCollum in a deal for Cousins, and be sure that Cousins re-signs here, it will probably be consider. I don't want that because I absolutely love CJ and I think him and Lillard can work if the supporting cast is good. So far IMO Harkless has proven himself good enough to hold starting spot, Plumlee is getting there and at PF he would be awesome, some rotation players are good enough too. There's some deadwood which we need to get rid of.

I just hope we manage to send Meyers somewhere. At this point I'd trade him for a second round pick probably just to remove his $10M contract.

Maybe. I mean he probably would have got a triple-double (double-double very likely) if he hadn't been taken out early because it was a blowout.

Thunder were atrocious yesterday anyway. Westbrook was fine, but very frustrated. The whole team sucked ass though. No Oladipo meant less spacing than usual which made it very hard to score. No Oladipo again against the Jazz is going to be ugly.

Lakers honeymoon has finished it seems, back to Earth. 8 losses in a row and they owe their pick for this year to Philadelphia unless it's top 3.
