Nasri To City - Done Deal!

Yeah Wenger's only the guy who took Nasri from French football and has worked with him for 3 years, who has the ultimate say on transfers and can hold him to contract for another year. His opinion counts for nothing compared to the ITK superstars of the caf.

His opinion is irrelevant in one respect: If Nasri want's to come to us and we wan't Nasri here, then eventually he will. That is a fact, there is no point whatsoever in arguing otherwise unless you're on a WUM as usual. Wether the transfer happens now for £xxM or in a years time for free.

Wengers only decision is wether the his principals combined with another year from Nasri is worth £20+ million.

The only way Wenger's opinion isn't irrelevant is that if he really doesn't want to let Nasri go but his hand is forced, the price could reflect that. If Wenger just wanted to get some money now rather than none next year he could pocket £20m easily. It could be that he gets £25m from playing hardball.

Arsenal cant afford to lose a £25 millioner player on a free transfer in 12 months - only City really can afford to do that

Ashley Cole?

one of many, really don't understand people saying Wilshere will stay at Arsenal because he is english. If they will continue to have no success then I'd be shocked if he didn't consider leaving.

Ashley Cole is the only player who's left Arsenal under Wenger and continued to play at even the same level let alone perform better (and he still dipped for a couple of years and isn't as good as he would have been).

That has no relevance to the current situation. You've never been in this position before under Wenger.

You will soon have players approaching their peak with no immediate prospects of winning trophies.

Diarra's done alright at Madrid.

But in the past you have more or less always been competing for trophies. Now that you've been without for some time, I think you may see more players leaving. There is a very real possibility that Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy will have left by the end of the summer and will enjoy their peak years elsewhere.

You're looking to the past too much and not realising that a lot has changed.

He's gone onto become the best left back in the world. Don't kid yourself and pretend he'd be a better player at Arsenal, because he wouldn't be.

Henry? Viera?...Yes, Wenger let them go at the right time. He actually did brilliantly to get the money he did for them both. But Cole isn't in the same league as those two. You lost Cole before his peak years, and for relatively small money.

Yeah, then he will walk for free. Well in Wenger, what a smart clever man he is. Kudos to you peter for seeing through our rubbish business sense of Arsenal making lots of money for him and instead holding the sensible opinion to lose out on money and see him walk for nothing.

He played relatively poorly at Chelsea for two years and has only in the last two got back to the level he was at, though never the level he could have attained. I've never denied the fact that losing him was a major feck-up (probably caused by boardroom ego).

I'm betting on Arsene...

To what? go another 6 years without a trophy?

Wiltord, Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Cole, Reyes, Hleb, Flamini, Toure, Adebayor - Arsenal have been remarkably poor for over ten years in holding on to their best players.

And this is before you consider the annual summer saga over whether Viera and Henry would stay or go.

Good list of players who were SOLD and went downhill afterwards to set against Mike's 'Diarra'. Of course the reciprocal list for Chelsea is of players you've PAID good money for and have gone downhill fast.

Well, majority of them played for superior clubs after leaving you so it's not much of a downhill.

They got more money but they played a lot worse and their careers suffered.

They won trophies. Well, some of them did. But admittedly very few went on to be as good as they were at Arsenal.

Regardless of going downhill some of those players won trophies after leaving Arsenal isn't that the whole point.

None of them were as good. Anelka could have been one of the players of the 00s.

Downwards? Anelka has won the title in recent times which is more than can be said for any of your players, if you had Toure and Adebayor last year you would have been a far stronger side - you sold them for £40 Million and replaced them with worse players.

You have time and again sold very good players and replaced them with worse. Anelka - Wiltord, Overmars - Jeffers, Wiltord - Reyes, Henry - Adebayor, Adebayor - Chamakh, Cole - Clichy, Pires - Walcott, Seaman - Lehmann, Toure - Schillacy, Hleb - Arshavin, Flamini - Denilson.

It is all very well saying that they were poorer after leaving you, but their replacements have been successively poor as well.

Toure was replaced by Vermaelen, wasn't he?
