Nasri To City - Done Deal!

Where does it say he'd want to go Milan?

Fact is we're in better shape then Milan, play in a better league, have grown stronger in Europe, have shown ambition and he's had ample time to come out either through his agent/twitter or whatever and say, 'in no way shape or form will I sign for another English club'. In fact, earlier in the season he was quoted (maybe bs) as saying he'd be open to it. I can't remember the exact quote though. So if we wanted him? it won't be easy. I know people were talking about Viera but that'd be like us selling them Keane or them selling us Fabregas. I wouldn't put Nasri in that league and they need money to rebuild . Another 20million is nothing to be sniffed at but it would be natural to assume they would perhaps want to get deals in place before agreeing to anything.

Exactly, why would anyone choose AC over Utd?

Even if he's desperate to sign for us, what makes you think Wenger will not block his move? If one of our better players wanted to join a direct rival, I know SAF would.

'Do I want to go to Man United? Initially, we should see if it's real and if it is concrete.'

This is the alleged quote he made to French broadcasters.

We gave them Silvestre...

He's a better footballer in general now though Kouroux, that is unquestionable.

I agree but I don't think he's the answer United is looking for in midfield. He wouldn't be good enough to be a regular CM for United tbh.Play him on the wings or in an advanced position to get his best but then again we have enough players for these jobs

Arsenal's Samir Nasri is just what Manchester United need, says Paddy Crerand - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Samir Nasri is the midfield playmaker Manchester United need, according to former Old Trafford star Paddy Crerand.

Crerand, a European Cup winner with United in 1968 and now a pundit on MUTV, said the Arsenal midfielder would fit in perfectly at Old Trafford.

United are preparing a £20million bid for Nasri, who has one year left on his current contract after refusing to sign a new deal with Arsenal.

Although Arsene Wenger has insisted he will not sell Nasri to United, Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to test his managerial rival's resolve with a firm offer.

"The player that interests me most at present is Nasri," said Crerand. "I'm sure he can do the midfield job for us and become the play maker at Old Trafford.

"He is right up there with the Barcelona players like Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta in my book but the talk of [Cesc] Fabregas going to the Nou Camp could potentially jeopardise that one.

"The problem that Arsenal face is the length of contract, surely they can’t let Nasri go on a free next year? I doubt they will let both players leave Arsenal so I suspect an interesting few days ahead.

"The team go out to the States on July 10th and that means we will probably go all out to bring any targets that we have into the club to enable them to be part of the full pre-season.

"It makes a big difference believe me if players can enjoy that full period with the rest of the team. If there is another signing to make I expect it will be in the next 10 days."

Never had Paddy down as a transfer

I love how people post line ups like that as if that's who will start every game.

Nasri would improve the squad, don't get too excited though, there's no chance Arsenal will sell to us.

Why do you think this? It wasn't that long ago that they sold some of their best players in Toure and Adebayor to a rival for fourth, and a couple of years before that they sold Ashley Cole to a title rival. It's hardly out of the question that they'd accept a bid from us for a player with a year left on his deal.

Would suspect Arsenal would favour him moving to City rather then us, at least then they can say money was the motive rather then success, which would worry the fans.

I don't know. Realistically Arsenal are competing more against City than ourselves. We are more likely the top 2 with Chelsea, Arsenal are fighting City, Spurs, Liverpool for the other 2 spots.

I agree that City are more of a rival to Arsenal then us at the moment with regards to actually finishing top four, but imagine what message that would send to the fans publically admitting that?

Reported that his agent is meeting with City today.

Of course they are linked. They have been linked to over 20 players so far this season, so leaving poor little Nasri out would be wrong, plain wrong.

I think the Nasri link to Utd may well be a genuine one and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we see a development soon.

As for Arsene, ultimately, he has very little say in the matter. If the money is right and the player expresses a wish to go to Utd, it is game over for Arsene.

I am surprised so many people think that this can't happen.

If his agent is meeting with City I'd be suprised if he has'nt met with us already, I think Nasri is top of Ferguson's wish-list at the moment.

Has there been anything other than the bits his agent is feeding the media to suggest we are interested?

I refuse to believe this

Generally speaking Paddy's very careful about what he says about supposed transfer targets. You never see him spouting off on the Paddy Crerand show about X, Y or Z player. The fact he's quoted as saying we should get Nasri I take as an indication that we are genuinely interested...

...and I just read on the Guardian webpage that contrary to reports City aren't interested in Nasri and haven't moved for him. Would seem to be a story geared at getting United to firm up their interest just the Sanchez to City stories were aimed to get Barca and Utd to spend silly money.

Shit, I just realized Nasri is this year's Ozil/Benzema :nervous: We won't get him guys, cocks back in :(

Arsene Wenger has responded to growing unrest by supporters over Arsenal’s transfer policy by stating that activity will increase at the end of July.

The Frenchman has been criticised for his lack of spending over the last few years, having reportedly not utilised his full budget in several transfer windows.

It is a policy which has been applauded by the likes of Uefa president Michel Platini, who has praised Arsenal for not incurring debts on the scale of Manchester United, but has rankled with fans who have become disillusioned with the club’s insistence on buying young players.

And rumours over the possible departures of key players such as Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy has left supporters worried that they will be left behind their rivals who continue to spend much more.

But when questioned on possible future transfers, Wenger said that decisions made on buying or selling players will not be rushed, as clubs still have two months before the transfer window shuts.

“We are in a waiting period, everybody is waiting that the other [club] moves,” he told Alsace TV.

“It is a transfer period. Everybody has their cards in [their] hands, hoping for the big transfer. There is nothing moving yet. The period will me more active at the end of July when we will need to really strengthen the team.

“There is always pressure, England is the hardest championship in the world, some teams have more money than us. We have to accept it and do the maximum.

“We decided to respect some rules in our club, especially on the financial side in an environment that does not respect that. We respect [the] quality of the game and human quality too. It means it is harder for us when you respect these three topics.

“We live exactly in the way everybody should, with a balance between revenues and expenses. I think we should be seen as an example and it is often not the case. We have been very constant for many years now.”

Wenger continued to stress that Arsenal are very close to fulfilling their potential as a team and he believes that only injuries have kept them from claiming an elusive league title.

He continued: “I think we were very near to winning the championship. The problem was that we were playing a lot of competitions together and we physically paid it in the final sprint.

“Until three weeks before the end of the season, we were in the course to win the championship. We also missed Fabregas and Van Persie a lot last year and it was very important for us.”

Asked whether he was still happy at the club, Wenger replied: "If you're smart you don't want to get what you don't have. I have some prerogatives that every coach dreams to have and I'll be thankful to my bosses forever. I can work with my philosophy and my freedom."

He added: "I'm lucky, I'm working and I love what I do."

Does that mean they won't bow down to Nasri's contract demands?

You could read into that like, you could read into it that ignoring 20 million for a player with one year left is a contradiction to what he's saying as well. You can read into a lot of things :)

Fair enough to Arsenal for sticking to their policies, but at the end of the day, if they want to compete with the best they have to compete on the transfer and contract front also.

Barca, for all of the youth and home grown talent in their squad, pay through the nose for a fair few of their top players.
