Nani | Contract & Transfer talk

Fair point, the Rojo deal probably did ensure that Nani went to Sporting rather than a bigger club.

Still though, my point stands. If top clubs rated Nani that highly and were willing to write off his last few years (as sajeev suggested we should) then there wouldn't have been a need for him to rehabilitate himself at Sporting first.

Perhaps who knows. It´s all speculation. I have another point of view that is corroborated by Nani´s recent interviews in Portugal. This Sporting loan deal came from special circunstancies (United paying his wage and the chance of playing in the Champions League again in his boyhood club) and the fact that United and Sporting have very good relationship. If it wasn´t for it he would probably be in Spain or Italy (he aluded to that).

I think that the deal has worked for everyone. Nani had rediscovered his form, He's been a great asset for Sporting and by the end of the season he would be worth more then if we sold him last summer.

British and Irish people don't 'appreciate talent' is true?

You used a perceive lacking of intelligence or inference of an individual based on their heritage in an argument to justify a point. That's poor form, don't do it.
i have been observing this for most of my life-time.
Having a British grand-mother and having spent a little time in the UK, the way people rate things in the UK is quite different to how most others do it culturally.
While the British do like to laugh at the German/Swiss efficiency, for an Indian even the British way is too obsessed with result rather than process.

The fact is Valencia is given a lot more leeway by the British press and even the likes of Giggs, G. Neville than Nani.

I would say that Redcafe is rather exceptional in its appreciation of Nani for a British/Irish site. Even here too there are many who absolutely disregard his previous contribution and the circumstances surrounding his complete disappearance the last two seasons

It´s great having Nani around but we will suffer to replace him (just like what happened when we first sold Nani to United). Maybe you can send us Valência for rehabilitation...errr nevermind.

Do you really need Valencia? I mean considering Portugal's magnificent history during the middle ages there must be plenty of catapults still around and in working condition. :p;)

Seriously I am glad that United helped a club who had provided so much talent for us. Considering our friendship with you guys + the level of play you play Id rather see us loan players to Sporting then to the championship/low EPL sides we tend to loan players to.

We already have our very own Valência. It's Diego Capel.

We currently don´t take players on loan. Only special cases like Nani. Of course i wouldn´t object if you loan us someone like Januzaj. Our Academy produces alot of talent and we currently have alot of portuguese youth ranks internacionals (Carlos Mané, Iuri Medeiros, Tobias Figueiredo) on the bench or in the B team. In fact we have surplus players and that´s why we are doing a special agreement with Teplice (a czech club) to take some of these players on loan for them to gain experience and playing time. Same deal as we have with Cercle Brugges.

Ha, sorry, didn't mean for that to sound accusatory, it was more a turn of phrase. My point was that not rating Nani doesn't automatically mean I wouldn't want Valencia and Young gone too, or even that I don't rate him more than either of them. It's weird that it so often seems to come down to Nani v Valencia when it's perfectly reasonable to think neither are good enough.

The point is the fans boo Nani but don't boo Valencia who is clearly an inferior player.
For some reason many United fans really dislike Nani for some reason where they would even take to booing him off the pitch, whilst at the same time worse players who play more are given a free ride. It seems odd to me.

I'm not saying Nani should come back to United, hes done IMO, but I do find it odd how fans treat him compared to other wingers in the squad.

Fans who boo our own players can be discounted out of hand imo. Their opinion means very little to me.

You say that as though it was a general trend. Which isn't true. Nani got booed once and once only, when he walked off the pitch after being subbed off in a game where we were chasing the goal. If and when Valencia did the same thing, no doubt he would get the same treatment.

In terms of general groans and moans after a poor bit of play, Valencia's been getting just as much stick as Nani ever did.

Interesting that you think Valencia is "clearly inferior" while he's been consistently picked by three different managers ahead of the "clearly superior" team-mate. Perhaps the gulf isn't as clear as you think?

Come on lads, the Nani v Valencia stuff is tiresome at this stage, especially when one isn't here anymore and the other is basically a fringe player nowadays.

FWIW, I don't think there was much between them at their peak, just very differing styles but both extremely effective in their own way. I think they divided opinion so much simply because it depended on which style you preferred. Valencia's advantage is that he's still a more useful player to have in the squad than Nani even in his decline and that's why he's still here.

Looks like paying his wages on loan is working out now. He comes back full of confidence, or we get more money than we would of if he'd sat on the bench here and played the odd game.

Nani interview on BBC Football Focus at 12:10 today. Discusses Moyes, Van Gaal, Manchester United, and Sporting for anyone interested!

He said he'd be very happy to come back if he was made to feel wanted by the team. It will be interesting to see what happens to him next summer, considering he's on quite a long term deal here.

Nani said he was missing family and friends and was upset during his last two seasons at the club. Obviously injuries contributed to his poor form. He also said that he felt he was poorly treated by Moyes. Interestingly, he did say that if the club want him when he returns from loan, he'll stay. I wouldn't mind him as a squad player if he replicated his Sporting form for us.

This is definitely a different Nani to the previous two seasons:

Sorry, it's probably in the thread somewhere but can someone give a quick description of how he is going at Sporting? I haven't been able to see him play.

He's been playing fantastically and looks a class above from what the reports have been saying. Scored quite a few as well.

The last two seasons at Manchester United with so many injuries, I was very upset, missing my family and friends, I wanted something new. Before David Moyes I was very happy at Manchester United, that was my club. But of course it is very difficult when a player like me is treated a certain way. If I come back to the club and they receive me well, if that they want me to be part of the team I will be very happy, if not we will find a solution.

I'm glad we got him tied to a good contract and that he's rebuilding his confidence at Sporting. Hopefully he continues in this vein of form and comes back a happy player. He's a valuable asset.

Probably true but it is an easy excuse for players who didn't perform last season.
To be fair no-one really performed besides perhaps Rooney, De Gea, and Januzaj.

If Nani retains his current form and confidence at Sporting to us in the coming season he could be a valuable player for us.

I dont think he'll be back tbh. 2 out of our last 3 (could be 3/3 given that LvG approved the loan) managers didnt trust him in our team and would often play players with less technical ability ahead of him. It might just be hes not suited to the PL anymore and is having this purple patch in a slower league.

That said i was always a fan of his but honestly cant see him coming back

Absolutely fantastic is all I can say it is such a luxury having a player like Nani in our team pure class 2 assists today.. thank you United ;)

Who is joao mario? How is ruben nevez (spelling??) doing. Any good players i can see from portugal?

Joao Mario ......remember that name because I am sure you lot will be hearing that name again in the near future ...what a player he is as well but he will have his own topic soon enough I am sure

At least he might be worth a few bob now if we do sell him, still has 3 years on his contract at the end of the season, leaves us in a strong position,

Joao Mario is a player I have rated very highly for a long while now . A few months ago had a list of Sporting CP talents to keep an eye out for and Joao Mario was top 2 on that list.. only 21 years of age but plays as if he is a veteran so calm and composed on the ball hardly puts a foot wrong fantastic vision and accuracy and is just a class act on the ball a player to keep an eye out for he is going to be big in my opinion. ( I think that list I made is somewhere in the Eric Dier thread if im not mistaken)

PS: when I made that list Sly said he wasn't sure if Joao Mario would make it ...im certain his opinion has changed now ;)

As for Ruben Neves he has been doing well the spotlight has dropped of him now but he is 17 and should stay in Portugal for a while I think.

Thanks, hope to see news about both soon.

Such a shame about that Schalke penalty, would love to watch him help Sporting get past the group stage
