Name four players you think we'll buy in the summer

LB - Alex Sandro - Juventus
CM - Andre Gomes - Barcelona
AM - Antoine Griezmann - Atletico Madrid
ST - Alvaro Morata - Real Madrid

Although it very rarely happens, I DO actually see us signing MORE than four players this summer. There is a strong possibility this summer we may lose DeGea, Ibrahimovic , Carrick and Rooney. Irrespective of where they are career wise both in terms of age and current ability that is four big name, talents and characters to lose. Add other possibilities with some of Mourinhos comments on Shaw, Smalling and JOnes and there could be England internationals leaving too. Then there are more hyped youngsters who seem to have failed from there loans in Perreira and Januzaj who I had high hopes for. And what about Blind, Darmian, Ashley Young? I wish I could add Fellaini to this list but hey :(

I think Mensah (as a centre back or even defensive midfielder, not a ruddy right back, stop playing him there) and Tuanzabe are both very much talented enough and seem to have the right attitude to play a more prominent squad role if there are outgoings. But without guessing I fully expect us to sign:

A top quality partner for Bailly (love him)
A central midfielder to partner Pogba
An attacking wide player

Depending on outgoings we may well also see:

A new left back
Another central midfielder to replace Carrick
A target man to replace Ibrahimovic

I agree with what you're saying but to have new 5-6 first teamers is not gonna be easy to gel and we may end up having a similar start to next season. Mourinho has his work cut out for him.

Reus, Aguero, Griezmann, and Bale.

Would be utterly pointless given we'd have no wingers because they'd always be injured.

I've lost faith in our transfer policy. We seem to pick names over what the team needs. I mean I just want a winger that can cross and keep wide not cry that they are a natural 10. Surely someone out there exists, Bernado, Bale, Willian, just someone that isn't another tippy tappy 10

Couldn't disagree more with you this season.
Zlatan = 28 goals excellent signing for price
Pogba = good season and will get better great signing.
Mykytarin = a bit hot and cold but looking forward to him kicking on.
Bailey = unbelievable signing looks top drawer already.

Hope we have another transfer window this good.

Rojo at LB, no thanks

Fully agree. I hate all of the "United Way" crap.

Yet I also miss having wingers that do winger things.

Also, as a club our tens have always been true second forwards: Rooney, Yorke, Eric and so on. I don't want a gaggle of tricking midfielders not good enough to be a 10 but talented enough that they play and get shunted around everywhere.

BTW those targets were tongue in cheek (according to the press). Would you rather have Shaw there or a new transfer?

You'd have someone like Nani back?

Would guess that Fabinho will go to city, suits their right back that plays CM thing just too well.

I don't think Bernardo Silva would be a goo signing, lightweight like Mata and plays directly in mhikitarian's position. Just stick with Mhikitarian and play Lingard when we need the tactical hard runner.

Obviously Griezmann is one of the best in the world and should be brought in if we want to improve. Not really sold he has the power to play CF in the premiership but he could play 10 if we persist with a second striker or left wing as he has had plenty of success there too. Could also play in a front 2 if Mourinho ever wanted it.

The price tag on belotti seems absurd, I don't think us singing 2 players for 80+ this summer honestly. Morata is the more likely striker for me as he can't get in the real team, and works hard, good in the air etc so mourinho might well like him. I do think belotti looks good and might be the big signing if Greizmann doesn't come, which seems fairly likely anyway.

It probably spells the end for herrera playing in the bulk of games even though he's been our best player, but you would expect mourinho to sign a dedicated defensive midfielder. There have been a couple of names thrown around, I see Dier mentioned although no concrete link and would cost a fortune so unsure... I wonder if Mourinho could pull a portugese in on a decent deal.

And we probably need a left back if luke shaw isn't working out. If griezmann were to play on the left we would need a strong attacking left back. Otherwise, if we play a wideman on the left with a right winger that cuts in eg Mhiki then I would expect a more defensive option at left back. I haven't a clue who these would be.

On the assumption we get in to the CL:

Griezmann - he seems to be shopping so I'd expect PSG, RM, Barca to all be interested. Having said that we are apparently able to offer biggest wages.
Bertrand - We need someone at their peak, too many 'potentially world class players' to mount a serious title challenge. Bertrand is realistic and a very good PL full back.
Fabinho - Mad about this guy, would love to see him here sitting in a midfield three of Pog, Herrera and him. Carrick can alternate in when possession game.
Alderweireld - wildcard but I don't see why we don't test Levy's resolve. I get the impression some Spurs players might be looking around and wondering how long Poch will stay and why they earn materially less than players at clubs underneath them. They are also somewhat restrained financially by new stadium. We have a lot of good but not great CBs, might as well go for the best in the PL.

Would Juventus' system from last season (3142) get the best out of both Griez and Pogba? I read that Conte's 3142 was made specifically for Pogba. A system with two strikers would also get the best out of Griezmann, and Herrera could be at his best in a midfield 3 so he can roam and press while the more disciplined midifelder shields us behind him.

Add:
Dier/Keane
Fabinho
LB
Griezmann

ST - Griezmann
LWB - Pogba - Herrera - Valencia
Fabinho
Rojo - Bailly - Dier/Keane
De Gea
The strikers could be Griezmann, Martial, Rashford, potentially even Mkhi. Defoe is also available on a free so maybe him in rotation too.

Fabinho can play both DM and RB to give versatility and cover for injuries. Dier can also play DM (if we sell Fellaini and Rooney we may need two midfielders rather than just one) and CB. Alternatively we've been linked with Keane who might do well for us there.

LWB could be Mendy from Monaco (not too sure we could get two Monaco players though), Tierney from Celtic (Mourinho seems to rate him) or Kolasniac who is available on a free.

So now you have two strikers for Griezmann, three midfielders for Pogba and Herrera (letting us compete against the best without having to necessarily change shape because we have enough control of midfield), and three defenders to protect De Gea. Dier has played as a midfielder so he could push up in posession and partner with Fabinho, giving Pogba and Herrera freedom to attack so the formation could be made to look like 2-2-4-2 in the attacking phase.

The problem is just Mkhitaryan, but I'm not convinced of his importance just yet.

Damn that's harsh the United Way is an important charity that helps of people.

Agreed, I think we will sign at least 5 players, not to mention he sold schweinstiger, Depay and Schneiderlin and never replaced them.

I hope we get Griezmann, Fabinho, Douglas Costa and a CB.
We might need another striker as well.

Griezmann
CF
Mendy
Experienced CB i.e Pepe (This will allow Tuanzabe to in come into the team in 1-2 years time as they will replace the CB)
Fabinho
CM

We need this many to compete seriously in the CL. We have sold 3 players recently, some need to be replaced and also build upon the squad.

I think it is very unrealistic we would only sign 4 players this summer

Look at the reality:
Since the start of the season, we have lost:
  • Schneiderlin
  • Depay
  • Schweinsteiger
And we haven't replaced them with any new players, ok they didn't play alot but that is because Mourinho didn't rate them enough to start games but they still provided depth to the squad which we have lost now.

Then there is the following things:
  • Zlatan's contract won't be renewed with his injurry
  • It is likley Rooney will be off given the fact he is hardly played anymore
  • Carrick might retire
  • DDG could leave
  • Given the fact Mourinho has been unhappy with Shaw, Jones, Smalling one or more of them could leave
  • Darmian is eyed by Italian clubs and I could see Jose a good offer for him
That could mean we lose 3 to 6 players un top off the 3 we already lost

Given the fact we have struggled in the league to win games, our home record is complete shit, we are only 6th and the problems we have in the squad are myriad, I think it would be damn near insane we would only sign 4 players this summer.

We need:
-Fullback
-centreback
-1 or 2 midfielders
-2 attackers

if DDG leaves we also need a new GK

So I'am expecting to see 6-7 signings this summer

Messi Ronaldo Neymar Bale

I expect us to line up as;

DDG
Valencia Bailly Rojo Shaw
Herrera Pogba
Bale Messi Neymar
Ronaldo

That should sort out the goalscoring issues.

Replacing Lingard, Darmian and getting with world class players and getting a top partner for Pogba would transform us. Mkhitaryan and Pogba will be much improved next year I reckon. We could also do with a better partner for Baily.

Darmian is eyed by Italian clubs and I could see Jose a good offer for him
Darmian's been pretty great and is our first choice LB, even with Luke Shaw available. He doesn't offer that much going forward but that's not his role. It's like Azpilicueta and Ivanovic at Chelsea: one sat back and was strong defensively and the other made the runs forward. Darmian likes to defend and so is perfect for that position, Luke Shaw is more the attacking type and so has to sit on the bench. I might be getting a little bit ahead of myself here but I think Valencia and Darmian as fullbacks with Bailly and one other (perhaps Rojo) is a title-winning defence.

Darmian has been pretty shit

If a club comes in and offers around £20m, we should bite their hands off

Offers absolutley nothing going forward and he is not great defensive either. Much prefer Blind on the LB and I think Blind is pretty shit.

Did you read my post? That's not his job. It's not like last season (the season of Luke Shaw) where we attacked down the left and Shaw and Martial played a lot better.

Blind looks pretty weak and lacking in aggression: not really a Mourinho player.

I agree, four very good signings even if Pogba & Mkhytarian havent consistently reached the levels we hope for from them yet. Bailly is our signing of the season for me as well over Zlatan. The fact adding those to our squad we are still outside of the top four I think shows just how badly we have done in the transfer markets preceeding it and the failings of the two previous managers. The money we have spent is is criminally bad really how far away we still are from the top top sides, not one signing has set the world alight and only 2-3 at most could be considered relative successes, thats actually laughable. We still have a lot of players should be moved on for me (mainly ones signed post Ferguson) and I think 5-6 need to come in, which again is almost laughable and a huge amount of work, maybe too much for window

Van Gaal really screwed us over with his signings. Even Moyes did better. But he played his part by giving Rooney a 5-year contract. Just taking a look at our signings,

Moyes
  1. Fellaini - never established himself in the starting 11. But proving to be a reliable squad player now.
  2. Mata - arguably our best signing. Which says a lot about our other signings.

Van Gaal

  1. Herrera - was misused and then underused by Van Gaal. Only now he's established himself in the team.
  2. Rojo - everyone wanted him sold until this year where he amazingly turned it around.
  3. Blind - a success under Van Gaal but will never hold a permanent spot under Jose.
  4. Di Maria - worst signing
  5. Falcao - worst loan deal
  6. Schneiderlin - hardly played
  7. Depay - huge flop
  8. Schweinsteiger - another flop
  9. Martial - brilliant first season but struggling now
  10. Darmian - playing well after 2 years
  11. Shaw - has hardly played in 3 years
  12. Romero - top 2nd keeper
  13. Valdes - played one or two cup games before fallout with Van Gaal.
If we take our best XI this year based on performance, only Rojo, Blind and Herrera will be in it. This is out of 11 outfield signings. He also sold Chicharito, Keane and Van Persie for good measure.

You guys are buying James and a new goal keeper. :smirk:
