Mykhaylo Mudryk | Reported - Failed doping test

I guess there’s grounds for terminating his contract, but that’s not really a win for Chelsea, given that we spent £62m on the guy.
But it's better than paying him wages plus the transfer fee; writing off the cost early is a blessing for you, no?

I guess in a worst case scenario like this, where the player turned out to be not very useful and a failed doping test, yeah early contract termination is kind of a win, but I had hoped we could recoup at least some of that transfer fee.

Just thinking it's great news to wake up to if you're a money man at the club. Provides an out that wasn't there and saves you a lot of money in the end. Perhaps more than selling on and subsidising a huge amount of the salary, plus the knockdown penny price he's worth.

Dunno if the club can get some degree of insurance for situations like this or it's impossible, given the scope for some big swindle through collusion.

100k per week for 8 and a half years... Todd Boehly must have dropped a P Diddy in his drink.

I hope he’s been doing lines rather than PEDs. If it’s PEDs he needs to go back to the supplier and get a refund.

Is there a possibility Club might be involved to get rid of a player?

He surely should get refund if someone sold him PED

I don't think that should be the right approach by teams - it never sat well with me how Chelsea did it to Mutu, and especially not nowadays when the key message being put out is that if people are struggling with addictions they should feel like they can share that and they'll be helped.

Sacking a player when it's revealed they've got an addiction, and demanding they pay back millions upon millions - as Chelsea did with Mutu - is not creating an environment where players feel they can admit their addiction and get help.

Most other clubs are standing by the players when it's discovered they've got an addiction and suffer a ban - most recently Ivan Toney and Sandro Tonali for betting. I don't think Chelsea should be encouraged to do the opposite and use addiction as an opportunity to sack players and then sue them for millions. That ruthless approach is just discouraging players from admitting it and seeking the help and support that they need.

The Athletic has been told by multiple sources, who wish to remain anonymous as they are not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, that Mudryk tested positive for meldonium following international duty with Ukraine in November.

In performance athletes, meldonium is now considered a doping agent due to its capacity to decrease lactate production during and after exercise, its capability to enhance the storage and utilization of glycogen, and its protective action against oxidative stress.

Damn potential 4-year ban. He is still young but 23-27 is the peak development for a professional footballer. He's done if he is convicted.

Depends on what they've failed for, and if they admit it or not. They might have changed now but when I did my UK Anti Doping (UKAD) course a few years ago it was 2 year ban for recreational drugs, and 4 years for performance-enhancing drugs. Both would be reduced if you admitted it. I know of a Weightlifter who didn't admit, got a 4 year ban, kept coaching athletes while banned, so got another 4 year ban slapped on top.

hes making antony look like a denis irwin level bargain

Performance wise, I don't believe that's true. Mudryk had been more useful for us than Antony had been for United imo, certainly until this season. He's only been playing in the conference league this season, so can't really gain or learn anything from scoring against that level of opposition but last season, watching both players, the eye test was telling Mudryk was playing better football and the stats for both of them kind of support this.

Obviously when you introduce a failed doping test and a potential lengthy ban into the equation, then the scales tip heavily in favour of Antony.

Hope he did nothing wrong. He just started to score some good goals and gaining bit of confidence in conference league. Now failed in drug test. Poor lad.
