Left winger is the one position in the squad we're well stocked in. Martinelli wouldn't be an automatic starter for us either - not that Arsenal would entertain anything of the sort. We actually had him on trial before he joined Arsenal when Mourinho was in charge and chose not to pursue it.

You're making out like this was a good thing haha. It was definently not. But, it happens. We've missed out on countless players we almost signed but never did.

As for Mudryk, I'm very excited by him, and hope he signs. People talking about he's only a pace merchant are wong in my opinion, look at the video enclosed to see the vision and technique he has in addition to that pace.

He can be the next Arshavin, Overmars or Pires, or the next Pepe. There is always a risk in expensive transfer. Just hope Edu did his homework this time.

Yep, very true. A transfer is always a gamble, and unfortunately the Shakhtar heirachy seems to be from the Napoli, Lyon, Benfica, Ajax stable that seem to extract big fees for their players, so we will likely have to overpay. As has been mentioned, they are using the Antony fee as a guide against us, while ignoring the fact another similar level of player Gakpo went for nearly half that.

Two things that make me confident apart from what I can see, is that when Edu and Arteta tend to pay big it has seemed to work well so far. And Arteta knows what he likes and wants from a wide player and seems to be credited with helping them improve, as we can see from Martinelli and Saka at Arsenal, but was also spoke highly about working with Sane and Sterling especially at City.

It goes without saying he's a talented player but I'm fairly ambivalent about it. We've got Rashford, Sancho and Garnacho for that position. If we were restricted to players like Dan James and Anthony Elanga for that position, maybe I would feel differently.

He's a potential top player, I'm surprised Arsenal is having a free run at him. Would love him here, speedster and skillful.

I highly doubt it is a free run. Probably just like Raphinha to Barcelona, or Vahovic to Juventus , other clubs probably contacted his agent and the player only wants Arsenal among the interested clubs. I highly doubt the high profile clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool are in for him at all.

May be, still by the hype he has produced this season on UCL I expected more high profile clubs interested.

From our point of view it’s a significant signing in it signals that our first team building is complete and now we are adding squad depth. It also helps with our strikers depth as martinelli can be the third choice striker if both Jesus and Nketiah are out and mudryk can fill in on the left

As feared, it seems like Chelsea are looking to trump us to this signing, and I can see them just paying what Shakhtar demands as we certainly won't.

Shame if it happens, and I won't change my mind about the player to be bitter, think he'll be a star.

Chelsea  the way they're being run at the moment is just bizarre. Please please let us get owners that don't act like the bozo they've got. Just spunking money in all directions with not even a hint of a plan.

They have a plan.

Just go after whoever anyone else wants and pay massively over the odds for them.

€120M on Enzo & €65M on Mudryk would take them to €185M & that’s not including the defenders they’ve just bought too. EDIT: Badiashile for €38M takes it to a potential €223M in fecking January!

Madness, utter madness. They’re gonna spend big in Summer too, can guarantee it. Makes you think, is Potter wanting these players or Todd?

Tbf he would be one of the players who could be a great addition to their team as they don't have any quality wingers at all.

I agree, but I do actually think in this instance they need a player like Mudryk more than Arsenal do. There's so little attacking threat in the Chelsea team and they keep spending on defenders.

Just like Raphinha, would be a nice addition but anything over 50m and it becomes silly business. Let Chelsea embarass themselves with another random transfer and let's find someone else.

It's beyond belief at this point. Clubs must just be rubbing their hands when they hear it's Todd on the line.

Chelsea  I guess they're on a mission to do the same to everyone else that Barca did to them in the summer

Chelsea are embarrassing

Someone needs to pull that owner aside and have a word.

What is the deal with Chelsea? How rich is Boehly? Their spending seems ridiculous..

Srna is their director now? FM legend.. could play LB/RB.. always signed him.

We'll see what happens. But anything close to £85m is a silly fee for this player. I really do rate his talent but this is a (almost) 22-year-old guy with nine career goals in the Ukrainian league and a couple very good CL performances. If Chelsea want to spunk £85m on him, so be it.

200m on him and Enzo is crazy money.

Usually missing out on transfers is annoying and I’m always annoyed at my own club for letting it happen, but when Chelsea are acting this mental the only thing you can do is laugh. They don’t have a clue.

I don’t think Boehly himself is that rich. He is about the same as the Glazer Family in terms of net worth. The people in his consortium do have money though (namely Clearlake Capital) with Boehly pretty much the frontman for the whole thing.

Boehly has around $4bn personal wealth if I'm not mistaken but it's not his money that's being used to fund signings. Overall the owner group have tens of billions put together-

When they bought the club they confirmed they've committed to investing £1.75 billion to the club over the next ten years so any money spent on player signings that isn't generated by the club itself is coming from those funds. A large chunk of the £1.75B total has been earmarked for the stadium renovation but there should still be plenty of funds available for investing in the squad too, though it's not going to be available forever.

I'm pretty sure the plan is to try and rebuild the squad over the next couple of years with heavy spending to get back to challenging for the big trophies and once that's done the purse strings will tighten and any player purchases will have to be made with the club's own revenues. If that plan is successful the club will then have a competitive young squad for many years to come so continued spending won't even be needed and the occasional transfer here and there can be funded with the club's own money. Now if the plan fails and the team will be full of expensive flops who are impossible to shift and the costs for keeping them are sky high, who knows what will happen? But there is definitely a plan.

Either way I don't really see us buying this guy. We definitely need some new wingers as soon as we can bin the constant underperformers Pulisic and Ziyech but maybe that's a job for the summer and not right now. Our top target in the winger department since last summer has been Rafael Leao but lately he's said to be close to an extension with Milan so maybe we need to look elsewhere. Mudryk does seem of a very similar player profile to Leao so in that regard going after him would make sense if Leao is off the table but as he seems to want Arsenal and Shakhtar's demands being what they are maybe it's a pass for me.

To be honest, makes more sense for him to go to Chelsea. He’s more likely to be a guaranteed starter there as their LW choices are atrocious. Plus, he’ll probably earn more while doing the same job, all the while living in London.

Has Chelsea ever come up with their own transfer plans? Or do they just wait for proper clubs to make plans and just steal them. fecking detestable club.

New owners. With competent owners this club is going back to where it belongs.

I've stated what a great job ETH is doing, but Arsenal have the youngest side and manager in the league, and are flying in the league.

Have been saying the difference in valuation is too big and there won't be a deal between Arsenal and Shakhtar. Shakhtar wanted 100m euro and Arsenal won't pay that. End of story.

Zaha and Thuram are available for free in the summer. May be Edu can try his luck elsewhere.

6 months ago, he said he only wanted to join Bayer Leverkusen and we discussed whether €20M was too much for him :nervous:

Terrific talent. Whoever signs him can consider himself lucky, I think.

Literally steal them in Mikel Obi's case. Will never forget them kidnapping him and forcing him to wear that despicable blue shirt.

Unless Shakthar lowers their demand, otherwise only chelsea is willing to pay that kind of money for him, or it is just the club is trying to squeeze more money from Arsenal. We will see.

Agree with this. I've seen many people saying our attacking players are rubbish but in the same breath act bewildered when we try to sign attacking players.

Worth noting that we've been after Leao for about a year now, talking to his agent and convincing the player etc. But it looks like he's going to sign a new contract. So after Leao what other potentially-great left wingers are there? In this case it doesn't seem like 'no plan' but rather moving on to the next best option for that position.

Yeah Mudryk to me makes far more sense than some of the other targets you've been pushing hard for. Though at the same time, Nkunku is coming in the summer, so you'd think between him and Sterling that you are fine for LW. Otherwise someone is being pushed out of position to RW.

Nkunku is either a second striker (which I don't think Potter plays with) or a wide forward shaded to the left. He has never been a lone striker and he rarely plays on the right.

Sterling can play either wing but has seemed to favor the left in recent years.

Pulisic may not be there much longer but he is pretty clearly a left winger as well.

IMO, Chelsea's biggest needs up front are a bonafide 9 who can really lead the line and a left-footed RW.
