Just rang up microsoft, and because i had 3 flashing red lights i get a 3 year extended warranty. Just need to wait for a month or so for them to fix the damn thing.

It's pretty easy to repair, you just need to buy good thermal paste, certain sized washers and screws. I have a guide in PDF, PM me if anyone wants a copy.
Yep, thermal paste to reattach the heat sinks and google the Penny trick (though crushed copper piping is better than pennies). I've brought half a dozen machines back to life now.
