Again, review when game just came out

Burnout - Paradise?
Burnout Paradise is the 6th game in the series. So is it worth forking out another £40 for this one? Well, yes in short. When playing it, it doesnt feel like a Burnout title.

The old style of menu selected game modes are gone, and replaced by a free roaming interface where similar to need for speed, to play missions, you have to find them. There are over 70 playable cars and 20 square miles of roads to explore from the start. Nowhere is blocked, so you are able to go everywhere from the start. You do miss the thrill of going somewhere new, and unlocking new areas, but by having the whole city free to roam from the start it means no problems in where Burnout Paradise excels, its online mode.

There is no need to save your progress, quit your game, log on, search.. it does it all from in game. You are (almost) instantly connected to a 'freeburn' game with up to 7 other drivers. Online you can follow quests, race with other drivers, or annoy the little stupid kids by continually crashing into them, scoring 'take downs'. The online mode turns out to be more fun than ringing Asda and getting their staff to put a call out for your friend Tess Cosis-Cheaper on their tannoy. While im on the subject of Asda, their customer service is awful, they wouldnt take a game back because their was a finger print on the disk.. grow up now eh?

Anyway, this games single player also boasts an impressive game time. Licenses pass fast, but there is also 400 barriers, 120 Billboards, 45 drive throughs and 50 Super Jumps to find. O and 75 cars to unlock through various means. There are no loading times, and loads of different ways for you to race/smash you car about. Stunt runs, marked man, races, road rage all mixed with cars to suit each event (aggression, speed, stunt). NB No matter what car, crashes always look good.

Negatives? Well of course.. The game is called Burnout : Paradise. The signs in the city say 'welcome to Paradise'. Not Paradise City, and even if they did.. is there really any need to play 'Paradise City' by Guns and Roses that many times?? I mean, im not saying its a bad song, but how long can you listen to that screeching noise? Other complaints.. um.. O apart from the annoying little kids you find everywhere online now, there are also people who have no clue how to play and can make online challenges less fun than watching a football game on setanta.

New Game Scores, 1 word sum up and buy or not to buy..

Brnout Paradise - 9/10 - addictive - Buy, because everyone else will..

Am I the only person who doesn't like free roaming in racing games? Bring back NFS2 and Burnout Takedown.

I think free roaming may work better as an unlockable reward. Maybe by beating a number of races in areas, you unlock those areas to roam?

Possibly. That may work better. I tend to spend a lot of time driving about doing nothing, just smashing stuff. Maybe thats just me, I never managed to get off the first island on GTA 3, as i spent the whole time waiting for night to come. Once night was upon us, i would pick up a whore, shag her, than beat the feck out of her with a baseball bat. That'll teach the dirty slag.

The point of the game is to be something that you just bugger around with, sit there and bugger around, do a stunt, see how many other cars you can hit while making a total trash of yours.

I like set pieces, but a lot of people loved Burnout Paradise, so it's each to his own. At least they tried to be different and stretch it all out a little.

Have to agree, I can't be arsed to drive around searching for a bog standard street race or what ever I desire. Free roam is shit if you can't get out of your car, IMO.

This is a problem for me with modern game reviews, it's too much about what the reviewer likes, rather than them actually taking it for what it is.

Sorry weaste, i dont want to start anything up again but..

my reviews are purely based on what i think of the game. I generally consider myself to be a middle of the road game tester type person. But I understand not everyone will agree..

Thats all, no start of arguement again please..

:)

See, i did a smilie and everything.

Well exactly, which is why what it is should be covered within the game description, with the review points themselves being about how well it is executed. Which is also why reviews should be done by at least 3 different people and why things like ice figure skating and diving should not be classed as sport.

Well, I hate romanic comedies, but I'm not going to try to bring that into a review of one. My point is that today too much extra bagage comes with reviews, which is why I was thinking about starting my own website to do such things in a serious mature way. Halo 3 - 10, MGS4 - 10, go feck off!

Halo 3 10. feck off. That is game that sold purely on its name and unprecedented hype.

Haha, nah, i sell all my games as soon as i've finished with them. Seeing as I dont get paid for my reviews, i only get money once ive sold them on!

Bit like a brioche.

Very tasty, but not what you're looking for.

It's Brochure

Sorry, i'll have to agree. Halo I find is a pretty average game that is only made as good as it can be by the online mode that is always busy.

Despite the learning curve of running into a brick wall, COD4 online is much better IMO.

I completed Halo 1, half way through Halo2 on what ever the setting before legendary was, and got about 6 levels into Halo 3 before i realised it was the same as all the others.

Online is alright, but no where as good as COD4, so i don't bother wasting my time on it.

Halo 3 might not be as realistic as COD 4 but on live its sooo fun, isn't that why we play games for? for the fun of it?

If you aren't very good at COD4 on live you're screwed.

Yeh but I talk the talk on COD. Non-sensible slurs are my speciality. I enjoy COD, you don't need to be amazing, just a reasonable standard.

Bar the game once in a while when whenever you get regen you get shot immediately by some 14 year old who isnt at school and somehow stalks you around.

Its the same with most online games - you think you're pretty handy, then you come across the japanese wonderkid.

Bog. I probably average about 2 kills a month on that map.
