Muppet Watch 2013 Edition

I really don't want any players who only improve us in terms of quantity we need to add further quality to the squad, Bale and Wilshere would improve us in that regard, so they are pretty much my muppet dream targets this season even though it's unlikely that we will sign even one of them.

Wilshere or Thiago Alcantara in midfield and Bale.

We should phone up Levy and tell him if he sells us Bale for a reasonable price in the summer we'll throw in Ashley Young and we'll play our strongest eleven against Arsenal and Chelsea to help them into the Champions League. If he refuses, we should play Anderson, Buttner and other fringe players along with some reserves and ruin Tottenham's chances, which would probably make Bale put in a transfer request anyway.

:lol:That pesky guy will probably threaten and blackmail about reporting us to FIFA for that.

We have not played well this year, key players have been consistently poor. Evra, Valencia, nani and young to name a few. Welbeck has no end product at all and is not a wide player.

Kagawa, giggs, cleverly, anderson and Rooney have been hot and cold.

Only Carrick, Rafael, de Gea and RVP have been consistently good.

For me I'd ship out nani, Anderson, Evra and lindegaard.

To replace Evra I'd get Alaba from Bayern. Other players I'd like to see Song
Modric or Wanyama to help carrick out in midfield.

We already got Zaha who is still v raw so a top class wide man with an eye for a goal is needed and Bale fits the bill perfectly.

One other signing I'd like is Fellaini this guy would add muscle to our team, versatility and a massive plus in both penalty areas.

Begovic to join to provide competition for de gea.

Bale would be a complete muppets dream but this season the midfield is surely a priority (yawn, I know it's been said a million times)

Hamsik, Gundogan, Modric, Verrati or even Fellaini or Strootman just some quality in the middle of the field, id take any of those and be more than happy.

There's been some top class youngsters sold in the past year for around £30m (Hazard, Lucas, Goetze) if Bale isn't available it would be nice to try and find something similar to those type of players.

I don't get stuff like this.

You've chosen six players based on the fact they can play in centre midfield despite the fact they barely have any similarities at all. The difference in the physical, aerial, forward thinking game of Fellaini and the technical, deep lying passing game of Verratti is massive. The same could be said for the contrasting games of the others you mentioned.

The point of making transfers is filling holes in the squad or improving quality in particular roles in the squad, not just randomly going after a selection of good players because they can play in a generic position.

I'm assuming this is a serious prediction? So Alaba, Bale, Begovic, Modric and Fellaini all in one transfer window within our budget? Thank God you lot aren't in charge of our finances.

And Evra hasn't had a poor season at all, he's shown massive improvement from his dip last season.

Ronaldo or Bale

And

Wilshere or Fabregas

Any combination would do.

Ta.

It's a muppets dream thread not a tactical thought out discussion...jesus I was simply naming some solid midfield options. Pretty fecking obvious to anybody who's seen 90 minutes of football that Fellaini and Modric are different types of players, though either would be an upgrade to our midfield no matter what style.

--------RVP
Bale-Kagawa-Rooney
---Carrick-Wilshere
Evra-Vidic-Ferdinand-Rafael
-------De Gea

I fecking hate The Mirror. It annoys the shit out of me for essentially getting paid for doing what you get banned for doing on this forum. Fabricating stories from nothing.

I'm not disagreeing that these are good players but I don't see the value in suggesting a list of completely unrelated players for a pretty specific gap in the squad. As has been done to death in his own thread it's debatable whether Fellaini would even fit in anyway given that he essentially plays as a number 10.

You're right though I'm definitely struggling with the concept of a muppet dream thread, not sure I've ever experienced the bizarre euphoria that takes over half this forum come summer.

:lol::lol: It's ridiculous and it's true.

Bale
Bender/Wanyama/Strootman
Alacantra
Isco

Would've added Wishere and Ronaldo too, but I'm pretty sure they're not gettable...

Full muppet!

One of Gundogan, Thiago, Modric, Moutinho, Cabaye. Even Fabregas if I go full muppet.
One of Lars Bender, Vidal, Matic, Strootman, Wanyama.
One of Isco, Bale, Rodriguez, Draxler.

Listed in the order I'd prefer them.

I'd add Luke Shaw and Will Hughes to this as well, signings like that are almost just as mullet inducing as the big names I listed above.

I guess even adding only Bale and one decent central mid (or, if Rooney is going to CM, then a striker) will really make us very difficult to play against.

The Mirror have no idea how to write a good muppet article, I mean they are still beating the dead Baines horse? and Reus as a Scholes replacement?

Oh and switch Bender for Gundagon

Not sure if Gundogan is gettable, though. But hey, in this thread, ok :D
And didn't Bayern snap up Draxler, thought I read that somewhere, or was that just rumours?

(on an aside, feel sorry for Dortmund, losing that Mario lad at a time like this when would be thinking of getting back on equal terms next season..and of course the CL semis)

Will be happy with Bale/Draxler/Isco/Rodriguez and 1 good CM + 1/2 young signings like Powell.

I just watched a youtube on Wanyama, so as an expert, he gets the two cocks up

My sources within the club* tell me that SAF has been given a blank checkbook to sign 3 marquee players. ''Players of the highest caliber'' was a phrase that was quoted.**

2 of the players were named as Ronaldo and Falcao, with the third being a world class midfielder who most likely appear in the Champions League Final.

It's thought that the owners want to stop City and Chelsea being a serious threat to our title next season and they also want a squad capable of winning the champions league. It's thought to be a parting gift for SAF, who will leave in 2 years time.***

Key:
*I have no sources within the club.
**There were no actual quotes.
***I totally made this bit up, just like the rest.

No i think Draxler is still a Schalke player.

He will end up at Bayern though no doubt.

I don't know what's more ridiculous, to suggest selling Evra or replacing him with Alaba. Evra is a club legend at this stage and even if we were to pay some crazy amount for Alaba (which would never happen) I highly doubt he would want to leave Bayern - why would he?

Fabio will come back next season hopefully, and Buttner will go on loan.

I don't see it

Don't know much about Hames.

Luke Shaw could be a cheeky one.

Shaw is a good call. I don't see Buttner as a regular and Fabio can play on both flanks so he'd still be getting some time next season (unless we ship him out on loan). Shaw is supposed to be a big talent and we could use a young talented left back.

watching how bayern midfielders neutralize their barca counterparts, i hope fergei will go all out and improve our midfield. i am hoping for a summer a la 2007 this year. fergei must target europe as well and go all out for this.

if this is like playing FM then,

out:
nani- a gifted player but i don't think he is ever going to reach his full potential at united.
ando - loveable character but this is the time to let him go.
young- i know he will stay but this is a muppet thread so..
scholes- likely to retire for the 2nd time, nice to see him earning another PL winner's medal.

in:
ronaldo- we can dare to dream, so why not?
bale- that's why i would let nani and young go, bale would be an upgrade.
gundogan- young, technically excellent, german.
wanyama- a beast in midfield. did well against barca earlier this season. not only he is physical , he can also pass the ball well.

defensively we are well sorted imo, so is the GK position. but imagine having carrick, cleverley, and then gundogan and wanyama to choose from for the CM position. and then imagine ronaldo, rooney, van persie, bale, kagawa as part of our attack.

The muppets budget is between 50 to120mil according to various tabloids.
