Moyes: "There's no budget" | Moyes told that he can spend as much as he likes

Indeed. But its not like Sir Alex or David Moyes are going to say "We cant afford to go for the best players in the world"

Theres an absolute diamond of a youngster available in Thiago and yet apparently he wasn't a priority even though they have confirmed they want to strengthen in Midfield... Omarlogic at its best.

Where does it says he wasn't a priority in our list? For all we know, he is and we have done all we could to persuade the player. Now it's up to the player himself?

I hope the morons who want direct dialogue and shit are happy now. Other clubs can just jack up asking prices two folds because apparently we have no limits or budgets.

Very stupid to interpret "no budget" to mean "will overspend on players".

Alas, some people are just intent on twisting every transfer related move by United into an excuse to moan and cry and stomp their feet like petulant dissatisfied children.

See below:

unsurprising we didn't get him if he wasn't a priority. Pep made him top priority. Why would we want a potentially world class centre midfielder for a bargain anyway ffs?

I think this goes down to the trust the owners have in the management of the football club. They know decisions made will be sensible so they're happy not to set a budget. If we spunk £40m on about 6 different players they might have something to say but that's never very likely to happen.

Totally agree on the LB position. With Evra, Fabio and Buttner, we have more than enough options going into the season. Don't understand why we'd spend a substantial lump of cash 'strengthening' in a position where we'll only get marginal gains, if any.

You really havent a clue how good Baines is do you?

He's been the best left-back in the Prem for the past couple of years, he just isnt fashionable because he doesnt hug the limelight like many others do. Check out this article, which provides stats also:

Erm, I know full well how good Leighton Baines is. But you're totally missing the point of what I'm saying. I don't believe that us making a change at left back is going to improve our side in a way that's required. We have more than enough in that area to not be worrying about spending another £15m. There are clearly other areas of our squad that are in greater need of strengthening - for me, I'd be looking for at least one more central midfield player, probably two.

Baines would come in and do a good job - in the grand scheme of things though, i.e. trying to go further in Europe and maintaining our league position, I doubt it'd make much difference.

That's a Sun journalist on Twitter, to be fair. If the Thiago episode has told us anything, it's that no-one actually has a clue what's going on, and that the only ones that look like they do are the sneaky ones that don't commit or the ones that throw enough shit at enough walls.

See below:

Oh well that confirms it! A self-publicizing journalist claims to have inside information - it MUST be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't we lock all twitter nonsense - and more importantly, all of the half-brained, cretinous, retarded dullards who believe this shit - into one thread?

Stop polluting the forum with such trivial and unfounded rumours. The affect is that this place is slowly becoming diseased with this fecking bollocks. Nothing stories spread like fecking viruses.

Seriously. feck OFF.

Perhaps, although I thought the above was a quote from Dave. If it isn't, then yeah, would seem to be probably nonsense. Urgo, lets kill LR7 for posting it.

 Muppet season brings the worst out of people like the above. Hilarious reaction

The notion of warchest, every summer. Same old story as Gill forgot where the key to it is.

On a serious note, oldschool managers never spend too much. I wonder, in which category Moyesy gonna fit. He seems extremely cautious from the start and there's pretty much no rush in any activity from him. He looks like he has a plan, though.

Nah man, I'm not even unhappy the slightest. I am, however, incredibly frustrated at people who like you said " twisting transfer related move into an excuse to mosn and cry and stomp their feet", like someone in this thread said this is another clanger dropped by the two on top re: transfer. I mean wtf.

It's true though, isn't it?

Twitter is bollocks and people who believe the journalists and ITKs on there are the most pitiful examples of intelligent life that I have ever encountered.

Yet they have the audacity to use it as a reference.

Seriously.

Thank you for proving my point.

You are intent on seeing it as "another clanger"by the club, and so of course that's how you're going to interpret it.

How about a little self-awareness?

To be fair you are writing in a thread about us having no budget limit that is information coming from the same journalist who said that Thiago wasn't a priority.

It's a rumor, which is no different to a rumor being posted in a newspaper. I wouldn't be against a global ban of Twitter Messages on the forum though, but it certainly helps discussion during a normally very slow point on the forum (summer).

There's a difference between an actual quote as in the OP (which should still should be seen as unreliable/out of context) - because the journalist can't just make up words and assign them to Moyes. They can twist things, but they can't (or don't tend to) commit blatant libel.

However, when expressing their opinion, they can of course say they get the impression that X or Y is or isn't a target. If he had any credible quote for this opinion then he'd quote it, wouldn't he?

Absolute bollocks!!

Came into this thread thinking we had no money at all..Had a massive rant prepared and now I don't know what to say!

feck you Moyes!!...My life is now officially shit!

I don't think that there is such a big difference. We haven't heard Moyes saying that there is no budget limit, and that same journo is claiming to have had lunch with Moyes and that Moyes apparently told him that we have an unlimited budget and Thiago wasn't never a priority.

About making quotes, it is a Sun journalist and we know how reliable Sun is.

It doesn't help at all. All it does is spread nonsense untruths that will undoubtedly be brought up again and again throughout the season when the grownups are trying to have actual conversations.

If we don't sign Thiago then people will use these rumours as a stick to beat Moyes with regardless of what actually transpired, and a large enough % of people will eventually believe it to be true.

I get what you're saying alright & i'm saying that i totally disagree. As much as i love Evra, Baines is far better than Evra in every department & is ready-made to play in any top European team & be exceptional aswell. No-one at United can touch him & Fabio/Buttner cant be trusted in big games either. They've a long way to go to be even first-teamers & we shouldnt just sit still with this loyalty to the players we have nonsense - thats rose-tinted glasses shit right there & left-back position needs an upgrade now.

Baines is excellent defensively, works hard & tracks back with equal determination as going forward - if we can get him, he'd put goals on a plate for our forward line. Evra cant even cross his arms for feck sake, nevermind whip a ball into the box, he's always caught out of position & doesnt bother his arse in trackin back either & that shits been goin on for about 3 seasons too. Last season he was better, but it wouldnt have been hard compared to the previous 2 seasons where he was a liability against the better sides.

Baines would improve our team to whole new levels, his stats as an attacking force in all leagues in Europe are above everyone elses, even Ronnie & Messi.

http://squawka.com/news/2013/06/20/...2012-13-season/2013062011249/top10facts1#main

Leighton Baines has created more goal-scoring opportunities this season than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo combined

The ex-Wigan left-back has had an incredible season for the Toffees defensively and going forward, but nobody expected him to be Everton’s main creative force. Whether it’s from crosses, corners, free-kicks or drifting inside, Baines is a lethal provider for his club and many Premier League teams will be aware of the threat he poses next season, especially if new manager Roberto Martinez employs his favoured 3-4-3 system.

About making quotes, it is a Sun journalist and we know how reliable Sun is.

"Yeah, I had a private chat with Moyes, here are some direct quotes from him that are all very nice and unspecific about general stuff. However, he also said some really specific and big information - but I'm not going to quote those sentences, or even include them in the article I wrote on the chat we had. Instead I'm going to post it on twitter, unquoted, and only when asked by a follower. Because, you know, I can't actually use any real quotes, because Moyes didn't actually say anything of the sort to me"

That'd still happen, Twitter or no Twitter. Rumors regarding Thiago's transfer has been posted in newspapers, so unless you want to carpet ban all media reporting then you'll just have to put up with it, perhaps you can sod off to the grownup forum and talk about gardening instead?

I said in the other thread.

If as is now widely believed, Bayern will sign Thiago, what is the point of Moyes now saying he was a priority?

I think thats what you meant to say yeah?

Dont dig what you mean man?

No no, it's not two words... it's a whole new word. "Omarlogic"

Omarlogic [oh-mahr-loj-ik]
noun
1. Absurd reasoning
2. The concept of trading old for youth (plus a boat load of cash)
3. Buying a player you don't want in order to sell a player you do want
4. Used as justification for an offer that you simply must refuse

Example of use in a sentence - "Of course you should trade Lewandowski and 6 million for Milito, Omarlogic dictates it"

Synonyms - absurdity, baloney, bullshit, nonsense, senselessness, to do a Lawrenson.

How about not posting every single piece of shit and stating it like it's fact? Tabloids are not much better, but at least a few years ago people were aware that it was all bollocks. The strange thing is that people seem to give more credence to what the journos say on twitter than to what they actually publish in the paper. Tabloid journalists on twitter is the absolute lowest of the low.
