Moyes So Far!

I think we're deluding ourselves if we think Moyes can attract any big names in January

Is it reasonable to assume this is such a big factor? Has a player ever argued the name of a manager being an obstacle to a transfer unless there was some personal issue among both?

It may work as a "positive", arguably (i.e., wanting to play under Mourinho or SAF) but don't see it being an obstacle. Premier League and Manchester United have enough pulling power themselves.

You could say United's position at the table might make some players thirsty of European football hesitate, but those would hesitate regardless of the name at the helm.

In the end I think wages still are the biggest pulling power available, the likes of PSG, Monaco, or Eastern European rich clubs have shown us that. After that I'd think the biggest factor is how highly the player perceives his chances of becoming a starter. Stuff like the name of the manager probably comes at the bottom of their concerns.

I don t think its about Moyes but about money...there are quite a few clubs offering better money than us...Real/Barcelona/PSG/Monaco/Chelsea/Shitty/and some Russian clubs.

100%
Was it Hazard that turned us down to play for a managerless Chelsea?

I'm pretty sure that if we offered the right money/agents fees, we would be getting the players we are supposedly after. RVP aside (who took less than if he accepted City offer), players won't come to us if we offer less, just doesn't happen anymore. It's stupid to say Moyes is the reason we can't sign players. It's a question of money. Simple as.

But Luxembergo and Quiroz could attract players to Madrid right?

No, its about the $$. Pay up and they will come

Despite the calamitous start, its hard to not get behind him and his efforts of long term rebuilding. Hope he can get us back to fourth this year.

Get out of here with your common sense! You're barred!

If Moyes loses to Mour at the weekend does another think he'll be sacked?
No chance, we're expecting to lose this, we have nothing to lose but everything to gain pretty much from this game. Moyes' true tests come in all the games we are supposed to win, rather then away to a team who's manager hasn't lost at home in god knows how long.

I actually disagree with this, if I'm being honest. I'm all in support of Moyes, but I do question his ability to attract a big name, and I think it works a bit differently to how you're putting it.

You mention it's a positive of "wanting to play for a manager," whereas actually I think it's much more passive. I would assume that most players don't have a preference for a manager to play for. The type of player that might though, for example, is a young player wanting to develop (and so he may choose someone like SAF or Wenger over someone else).

However, the majority of players will be much more passive; meaning, who the manager is will not really weigh into the decision too much unless it's a negative thing. In most cases I think it's a case of "is the manager good? Yep? fine." If not, then it becomes an issue.

Also need to remember we're talking about the best of the best players right now, true world class players. Often these guys, if they become available, will have a number of clubs chasing them. In this instance, they'll consider most factors to eliminate clubs. When it comes to managers, rarely does it lead to a favourite but rather an elimination of a club.

You'd think people would understand that after the likes oh hazard amd lucas turned us down with SAF at the helm to go to a managerless chelsea and PSG.

A big name manager might help but when it comes to a club like United, its pretty immaterial.

Dear David Moyes,

How more incompetent can you be? After the show of shame in the summer transfer window, the only way you could have placated hurting United fans was to conclude all the new signings within the first week of the January transfer window. Half of it is gone now and we are no closer to signing anyone than we were in August.

If Fergie had known you would be this slow, he wouldn't have appealed to us to support you during the title presentation in May. Fergie advised you to keep the backroom staff, you ignored his advice. You have turned title favourites to Stoke FC within 6 months. Every single decision you have made for this club has been the wrong one. Posterity shall judge you soon.

Signed

I love all these mythical 'signings' supporters want the club to make. Clearly their targets aren't available in January, unless you want Moyes to sign more squad players. Who are realistically available in January? Cabaye and Banega are the only ones that come to mind. The Coentrao deal hinges on Madrid getting in a replacement, so there's nothing more we can do on our end.

If it's a WUM though, well done.

When you were typing that open letter out did it feel empowering? Do you ever feel the need to campaign for your teams players on Sky Sports polls? Do you feel a sense of victimisation all through your life?

Letters like that make it hard to be a United fan. We get tarnished with the same brush.
