Moyes So Far!

Gotta give him credit for the important wins with a depleted squad and players returning from long term injuries.

I felt the decision to hold back Welbeck was quality, he took a gamble in terms of resting players and it came off.

The players are starting to play for him, albeit a bit shite, but spirit wise and determination are creeping back after what was a monumental overhaul last summer. With the other players coming back from injury, I sense a real go for the rest of the season..

Made the right substitutions but got away with a severely weakened line-up. If Norwich could finish we would've lost that one by three goals.

What I'm somewhat shocked by is our players and their lack of composure and spine whenever we go a goal up. Is this something that comes from the manager? This whole mindset of grinding out wins against teams we're easily superior to whenever we want to play a bit?

As soon as we put a bit of tempo in our game Norwich were hanging on for life. Then we score, and suddenly not one of our players stand up and keep hold of the ball, or try to score a second goal and kill the match?

If this comes from Moyes's mindset, we've got serious problems. Either way it's got to change. We'll never win a league with that mindset.

Great sub that won us the match again.

Grinding out 1-0 results is not Moyes' mindset as you try to put it, we've done it several times before and I remember a good article written by Gary Neville about it being 'the trademark' of champions.

United never ever won games by grinding them out before Moyes. Ever.

terrific winning streak now, 6 games. Keep it going.
Back at Old Trafford for 3 in a row now.

If we can get a win against Tottenham, we can look forward to an out of form, injury ravaged Swansea team experiencing a mix of second season syndrome, and the sapping Europa League.

Can't we grind out wins against shite sides by holding onto the ball then? It's not the 1-0 result or the act of grinding out a win in itself that's pissing me off, it's the way we go about it.

No balls at all in our team as soon as we took the lead. Welbeck was the only one who wanted the ball, the rest went into their shells. Carrick and Cleverley in particular were terrible. Vidic as well.

Today we won not out of resilience but sheer luck. The next time our opponents will finish their chances and we'll lose 3-0 and have nothing to grind out.

Good to see a halftime sub!

Deserves praise for that. Could see it wasn't working at all up front, and brought the revitalised Welbeck on.
You could say it was a lucky ricochet to fall to Welbeck like that, but he forced it through his determination.

Don't worry, you'll have your day soon enough...

We went 2-0 down away to Hull and managed to win. Must be fun having an outlook as negative as yours.

I'm not even blaming Moyes, at least not directly. But it's his problem to sort out our mentality.

When we're 3 V 1 if we make a simple sideways pass, but instead choose to run the ball into the corner flag, that's something that we'll need to adress. Because if Norwich had scored from the free-kick at the end then we would regret not taking such easy chances to kill the match.

And I'm not sure grinding out results against sides we're ridiculously much better than whenever we actually play a bit, just because we don't bother/doesn't have the balls to actually take the game to them, is the hallmark of champions.

If anything, Moyes did all the right substitutions today. I doubt he put Januzaj on so that he could help defend our 16 yard area like he was forced to.

2nd game in 3 days. Not bothered by the performance and/or inability to kill off the game at all. In fact I thought we did kill the game fairly well tonight.

Vidic terrible???????????????????

Damn right, Vidic terrible.

He's fine whenever he needs to head anything out of the box, but this season his passing game and his ability to take responsibility has went to shits.

Not the thread for this, but the amount of times he opts for the easy back pass and puts us under pressure, or needlessly plays the ball out for a throw in with a team mate in acres of space five yards away is infuriating.

This is 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. If we had gone for the goal at the end and been caught on the break and conceded you would have moaned about the team not protecting the lead. If your back was on fire you would moan about it and if I pissed on you to put the fire out you would moan about it. Cheer up sweetheart.

Now we're talking. You're right, we should've been more careful with the ball, make it be today or against Tigers, I agree with that. Sadly, I think it was somewhat down to our set-up today. Chicharito is not half as good at keeping the ball like Danny, Robin or Rooney, few players are fatigued ( Evra, Cleverley for starters ) and some are coming back from injuries ( Carrick ). This left us with nobody to keep the ball up front untill Danny got on the pitch, neither Kagawa nor Young had a good game today, Carrick and Cleverley were overrun as well. You're right that if Norwich took their chances today ( same goes for Hull City ) we'd be fecked, but thankfully David was at his best those matches.

I guess it's a mix of aforementioned injuries and, frankly speaking, lacking in the squad. We still miss some quality in the midfield and Evra was horribly knackered today, he wasn't going forward at all in the first half so we were on the ropes in the first half. A lot changed in the second half, and then again last 2-3 minutes were a bit shaky ( although we've kept them in the corner flag for like 5-6 minutes combied I feel ).

I can't understand how anybody can blame Vidić though, out of those two who played in the CB positions it should be Evans passing it forward rather than Nemanja as he's simply a better passer, but amount of times Vidić saved our arses during corners ( they've had 8-9 of those, they've got a bunch of tall lads too ) today was a lot of hard work done. He's a true leader. But yes, he'll probably sort of hoof it if our CMs are not making themselves available.

I think Moyes has been spot on tactically in the last matches. His subs won us the game against Norwich and Hull as well. I'm not negative at all.

However, I'm frightened by the teams lack of spine. There's no need for hanging on today, if we had continuted to attack we would've teared Norwich to ribbons. Instead our so-called experienced players went into hiding and Welbeck was about the only one who showed some spine.

I don't know whether this comes from Moyes's outlook, but even if it doesn't then he's the one who'll need to fix it. It's the excact reason for our losses to the likes of West Brom and Everton, and our draw against Southampton.

When Cleverley, Welbeck and Januzaj bust their asses to make a forward run and are three against one, why run it into the corner when they've got half a pitch to run into?

If anything, there was a bigger risk of losing the ball and taking four of our players out of the game by running for the corner flag.

That one situation summed up our mindset from the moment Welbeck won us the game.

Moyes has done really well in the last few weeks. To win six on the bounce after that Newcastle game deserves credit.

Let's not under-estimate the injuries at different periods we have had with RVP, Carrick, Vidic, Rafael, Jones, Fellaini, Nani injured with concerns over Rooney and Welbeck all out and today Valencia suspended. There's some real key players missing there, some for lengthy time. The likes of Kagawa have suffered from illness so we have had a very similar set of players guiding United through this period since the win over Shaktar. Evra and Cleverley are cleared knackered.

The likes of Welbeck, Young, Cleverley, Jones(he was before but has continued his good form), and Smalling have been playing well and responded to the two defeats at home in the ideal way. Rooney has continued to be excellent and I think we have the nucleus of our best starting eleven which has emerged in this run of games. Some of it has already started to settle in that 12 game unbeaten streak we had.

One more win over this period and we look right in the mix to continue climbing up the leg and into the top four which is where this side should be.

BTW- I daresay the reason we did not pile forward for a second today was because of the obvious fatigue of some of the players. Evra, Cleverley, Welbeck(even if he only did a half today), Smalling, Evans, Young have played plenty of football recently and Carrick is coming back from a lengthy lay off. Understandable after the fixture congestion and the Hull come back. All I care about is that we won.

I thought we saw the game out very well today. Certainly much better than the Hull game at least

The time wasting was a bit embarrassing but more worrying is the lack of quality in the performances. Halfway through the season and we still cant control games.

This is the thing. I don't mind grinding out important wins when we're put under pressure, but we're putting ourselves under pressure against shite sides FFS!

If we had an ounce of spine in midfield today we'd keep hold of the ball, be patient and kill Norwich off on the break. Instead we couldn't keep hold of the ball to save our lives, even though Moyes tried to adress this by subbing on Januzaj then Fletcher.

Time wasting from about the 75th minute onwards against Norwich City is a bit embarrassing in all honesty.

seems to be getting a handle on things. though the title will be a stretch...I feel sure we will get a CL spot. and perhaps the Capital One Cup.

The way I see it as well. More encouraged by the results with some big players out and doing it during this congested period.
