Moyes So Far!

Looking forward to seeing how he approaches tomorrow's fixture, what with Sociedad midweek and Arsenal next weekend.

We're now in a position where we can't take league games lightly. We should be full strength for Arsenal and Fulham and use the Sociedad game to rotate as we've got ourselves into a great position in the CL.

True, I expect us to play for the draw in Sociedad midweek. Lose there, however, and the group opens up once more.

The league should be the priority, and we'd all expect strong line-ups for the next two league games.

I hope so too, but I'd expect a 4-5-1 out there and aim to keep things tight at the back. If we nick one, fine, but I don't expect a gung-ho 4-3-3 set-up anyway.

It'll be 4-5-1 alright, I just hope the attitude's there. I don't mind rotation mind, I understand that, but we should still want a win.

This.

he's just butthurt over being let go at Chelsea (not saying he shouldn't have been given more time) so in a sense he wants the media to pound on Moyes cause from his point of view it seems rather unfair, since he was hardly handed a title winning team and lasted half a year, while Moyes inherited a team that walked the league last season

Beat Fulham and Arsenal and we have left the shaky start behind us IMO. Depending on the Arsenal v Liverpool game at the weekend we could be right behind the Gunners after next weekend. Everton are playing Tottenham, so 2/3 points dropped for one/either side. Chelsea are playing Newcastle who are capable to cause the Blues trouble, only City will beat Norwich convincingly this weekend IMO. So in short, beat Fulham and we will have gained some ground on at least two of the teams sitting above us in the table, ideally (not taking City into account) even four.

Well, that went even better than expected so far. Three points gained on Chelsea, two on Southampton, now let's hope for a couple of draws between Arsenal and Liverpool and Spurs/Everton. City, as expected, trashed a very poor Norwich side.
We've gained momentum now, the performance in the first half was quite good IMHO, seven games unbeaten now, won four in a row too.

Good to finally see him get consecutive matches in a row. It wasn't pretty in the second half but you really can't blame him for having to make those 3 changes. Hopefully none of the injuries are serious, especially the Rafael one. We really need him for the big matches.

I think we will make a number of changes for the CL game but a side still good enough to win. A lot depends on the fitness of the subbed players today and how fit Carrick is. Would expect to see Fabio, Rio, Fellaini, Giggs, Nani and Hernandez on Wednesday night. Maybe Kagawa and Welbeck as well.

Why was Moyes criticized in the matchday thread for making 3 subs ? 2 of them were clear injuries and something must have happened to Evans too. Weird criticism I thought. I don't see Moyes subbing Evans for the sake of it.

4 wins in a row and much much better performances. There have been significant improvements and while we're still in the top level, we're playing much better. Long may it continue.

Turns out Evans' "back seized up'. But we had wankers on the matchday thread saying he couldn't be injured because they saw nothing wrong from their sofa watching it on TV!

This train slowly returning on a right track but it's too early to judge how this form will grow and to what extent.

There will be crucial group games in Champions League and famous Christmas / New Year overloaded fixtures that should fully determine where Moyesy stands with this current group of players.

Poor Moyes. He plays a blinder in terms of choosing the team - and then we get three injuries.

I remember making a post at the start of the season saying how we should be aiming for 20 points from our first 10 games given their relative difficulty. Other than that crazy result vs West Brom that is exactly what we've turned out doing. Given that we have 17 instead, sit top of our Champions League group and are in the Fifth Round of the League Cup, we haven't done all that bad so far. Granted we aren't blowing teams away and storming the league (far from it) but some credit to the man.

Results since city and west brom debacle: P7 W5 D2 L0

Next 5 is a huge run of games for Moyes with Sociedad away to potentially book a place in last 16, followed by Arsenal h, cardiff a, tottenham a, everton h.

If we win 4 from 5 in all competitions we'd be looking fantastic. Or at the very least get 8 from 12 in the league games, otherwise there'll be too much to do. Confidence must be building though and being written off has always suited us

Depending on injuries, he's got a huge chance to erase a lot of this seasons faults next week.

Arsenal are playing wonderful football at the moment and it's our opportunity to stop them in their tracks. Slowly we've been improving and our momentum in todays game was killed only by 3 unfortunate injuries. With the right gameplan and the right personnel the game against Arsenal could be a real turning point.

It'll probably finish 0-0 now won't it?

Unlucky that he was forced to make 3 subs at halftime. Hasn't had much luck since joining us but hopefully this changes starting next weekend against th goner! Picked a good team to start against fulham and it really paid dividends in the first half.

The first half performance today was the first time we seem to have gelled this season properly and that is hugely encouraging....It was impressive stuff and good to know that Moyes looks like he is finding his bearings as opposed to going into free-fall which seemed possible after the West Brom game

Nope. We'll win IMO. It seems that things are turning for the right now, and while Arsenal are playing very good, we have a better team. If we win this, we'll seriously be back in the fight for the title.

I think we will beat Arsenal... it will be the same as usual... pass, pass, pass, lose possession, we hit them on the counter. Last year we totally played them off the park, that's probably not going to happen this year... but I'm still quite confident, as long as we have at least a couple of CM fit :smirk:

That's the way I see it too. People are banging on about Arsenal playing some smashing stuff, but it's nothing new. They are still quite vulnerable off the ball IMO and they will struggle with our counter attacking football as they always do. Especially since we're coming into some form.

Moyes so far? One word comes to mind. Lost. As in no idea what's he's doing. I'm sorry, but Pep Guardiola was never going to allow... This

Try reading it again. One letter can change the meaning.
He said "To me, that's positive"

I said he said, "To me, that's positive"

I'm struggling to see where there is a difference, I'm obviously not seeing it

Eric'sCollar, read carefully:

Just watching The Manager's Press Conference and Moyes looks a lot more confident now than he did even a few weeks ago. To me, that's positive. As I've said before, up until recently Moyes has seemed nervous and chose what he thought was the safe option too much going with the big names regardless of form. However, recently he's shown more of a willingness to try his own thing, to bring in those who have earned it on form not on reputation and its yielded results. I hope that encourages him to persist with a more positive approach.

What do you mean "To me, that's a positive"? Do you think the majority on here would prefer it if he seemed more nervous and scared?

Eric'sCollar, read carefully:
Ok, now I see the letter 'a'. I was wrong with that now I see it but the point stands.

He says he sees it as a positive as if the rest of us prefer him nervous and scared.

It's a different meaning but maybe that's not for football boards.

I did enjoy your stubborn denial of being wrong when it was bluntly presented to you, however.

I admitted I was wrong. Even though the point still stood in the first point that was made. I don't know how anyone would prefer Moyes to be scared and nervous over him being positive.
