Mourinho to United | Officially Announced

The deal is done, all that is missing is the press release.

These meetings have consisted of a brief chat about sponsors and people asking each other "Have we left it long enough to not look like we did this deal a month ago?"

They are probably doing interviews, photos and showing him around Carrington.

 Exactly:

Press conference:

ED: "Welcome to United, José. What's that? A list of your transfer targets? Well I'd better get to work on those straight away!"
ZLATAN: "Hi, everybody!
ALL: "Hi, Doctor Nick Zlatan!"
ZLATAN: "I was just passing...honest."

I think they'll announce Mourinho and Zlatan on the same day.

Also, an announcement on Friday evening would make the most sense in terms of publicity, as it will be covered by the weekend press.
With a gun to my head, I would obviously still say Mourinho will be the next Man United manager. There's just a lingering doubt, that maybe it could fall through last minute because of a disagreement with Mendes or a dispute over control levels. Maybe it's just me being a negative idiot

I'd say its been a done deal for some time. The bizarre issue of Chelsea owning his name may be result in a slight delay, but i'd imagine something should be announced this week.

Wait, the Chelsea owning his name thing isn't a joke?

Even this sponsor crap is a non issue that the media is using to drive Clicks

Press release:

Woodward: United had agreed deals to sign Ronaldo, Messi and Pogba but unfortunately they all have long term boot deals with Nike so we had to pull the plug.

 Isnt Rooney still basically the face of Nike in the UK?

Wait, the Chelsea owning his name thing isn't a joke?

They have registered with the EU intellectual property office - sounds like yet another excellent reason to support Brexit next month :D

I suspect that this is just part of the "image rights" admin we hear of a lot and can be very quickly sorted.

It's a conspiracy! Moyes, Vangles and JoMo are in Lisbon, cackling evilly!111!

Right, giving more credence to this trademark shit than it probably deserves, surely there's no way that would be legally allowed to hold up if it causes a restraint on his ability to work?

Apparently he's off to Portugal?

Too fecking right. Feel sorry for him with them twats camped outside his house 24/7. Cant even go the shop for a pint of milk without 10 microphones shoved in his face.

I'm not a lawyer, but the fact he has managed at both Real Madrid and Inter after this thing was filed suggests its an entire non issue that journalists are hanging on to desperately to keep the story alive and the clicks coming.

No matter how good the contacts, I doubt anyone other than those in the room know what is really going on in the negotiations.

Yup, if this isn't done by the end of this week it will have to wait. Jose has a few overseas commercial events planned for next week.

I'm sure that's what it is, but I've been made curious by the BS now.

The Sun has made an outlandish and not necessarily watertight claim about the delay in appointing Jose Mourinho.
What's the story here, then?

The Sun claimed on Wednesday afternoon that the delay in Jose Mourinho's official unveiling as Manchester United manager is "because former club Chelsea still own the rights to his name".

Eh? Surely you can't 'own' a name?
You're absolutely correct. The Sun's fatuous - albeit clicky - headline claims that Chelsea own the "copyright" to Mourinho's name. But it's a well-established matter of law that names are neither unique enough nor substantial enough to be copyrighted.

I love the press climbing over each other talking about this 'delay'

The manager's office has been empty for less than two days. There's no delay, just a lot of hungry, impatient reporters and fans.

.

Whilst simultaneously the same journalists are writing stories about the club moving to sign Mourinho's transfer targets...

I dont understand how chelsea can still hold naming rights or have any of these clauses that would prevent him to work for another PL that people talk about.

They were the ones that fired him, so surely any contractual obligations mourinho had to them must have become void because of that. Unless it has been part of a deal for the money chelsea had to pay him for sacking him. Which I would find extraordinaly strange.

So is this off due to image rights and the fact he drives a Jag rather than a Chevrolet?

Sky sources understand that Chelsea still own the trademark to Jose Mourinho's name on a string of merchandising goods, including glassware, face masks and teddy bears!

It is understood this is one of the image rights problems still trying to be resolved and it could cost United a large fee - payable to Chelsea - to resolve it.

The Blues have been contacted by Sky Sports News HQ on this and are declining to comment.

This. Sky said it'll be up to 48 hours. which would mean it'll be out tomorrow, my guess would be lunch time.

> Media were wrong
> Media make up a semi-plausible story to explain how they weren't wrong, just something different to what they said happened
> Idiots click on their website
> Profit

No '?????' needed this time.

There's only a ''delay'' because Mourinho's side leaked it before United intended on doing so. Why do the media have to cover every single fecking detail when it comes to us?

Imagine the meltdown if tomorrow we announce that we are giving David Moyes another chance. Cue Twigg's "who cares about Pep when we just hired Davis Moyes" posts.

We've been planning this for 6 months. Did no one think it was a good idea to mention this?

We knew he had a gardening leave clause ffs, yet Mendes just forgot this when chatting to Woody every day since December? I'm calling nonsense.

"hi Chelsea, could you comment on the rumours that you still own Mourinho related copyrights?"
"oh feck off you muppets"
"hm, we'll go with 'declined to comment', looks fishier"

The answer is simple. Jose changes his name to 'Ryan Giggs'. Literally everybody will be happy then.
