Mourinho thinks he can bring the best out of Falcao

So money is clearly the main motivator. There's nothing wrong with that but then it doesn't provoke much sympathy when he chose to keep his wage rather than accept a move to a level he's capable of playing at for less money. Moving to Chelsea was never the best choice if he wanted to play regularly and regain some form. He was always bound to repeat last season.

Read my post again. He went to Chelsea thinking last year was simply a down-year and he could regain his old form. A Falcao in his old form would have most certainly received plenty of games and minutes at Chelsea, especially given Costa's poor form. Now the realization of never returning to said level is probably kicking in. I doubt he thought that way before deciding to join Chelsea though. Not long ago, he was one of the best strikers in the world. Why would he give up so quickly and join a mid-table or lower level club just because he's had one poor season with us? Plenty of people have poor seasons after a tough injury but bounce back strong the year after. It wasn't unrealistic of him to think he would as well.

So no, money was not the main motivator. He thought he could get back to the level he once was at and make significant contributions to Chelsea's team, why would he instead opt to join a worse team AND cut into his wages for it when there's no need to? As long as a big club comes calling and you think you can still play at a level required at such a club, why wouldn't you go there?

I think it's possible to enjoy a bit of schadenfreude at Chelsea's expense while still feeling bad for Falcao. It's easy to separate the two. He did work his bollocks off for us and he's doing the same for Chelsea, but he's just genuinely nowhere near the required level.

He does reek of effort, which is a charming feature for a footballer. Personally I held out a relatively long time for him to come good here. I was willing to write off the first half of the season seeing as he was fresh off an injury.

I didn't think he'd be great at Chelsea but I did think he'd at least do better than last season simply because he'd be playing for a better team, but it looks like I was wrong. He's beyond dreadful.

Everyone loves a tryer, if he scores a couple I can see him possibly going off. I just feel at the moment, for his development he needs the big fish small pond mentality. It is like he's going from 0-100 starting in 4th gear after the injury.

On a side note, it's weird the way people go on about him "seeming like a really nice guy". Base on what? Working hard? Lee Cattermole works hard. Is he a nice guy? Admit it, this whole "nice guy" thing is fuelled entirely by him being very handsome, with great hair. Stick Luke Chadwick's face on him and he'd be nothing like as popular on here.

It's honestly incredible how often he falls over.

One day he's going to give up and just lie there, never to rise again.

Point well and truly taken!

I've no need to read it again. You're pretending to know what's going on inside his head. All evidence points towards money being the most important factor in his career choices. Nothing wrong with that but don't expect everyone to feel sorry for him because he chose to put himself through it.

I think he's got a good disciplinary record and I don't recall him ever being a WUM or saying nasty things about people either.

I do agree with you though - I bet loads of people thought Giggs was a nice guy until he did what he did. Same as Scholes pre-willy flash.

  You horrid old cynic!

Him playing football is one of the worst things I've seen since a mate sent a video of Kerry Katona wanking to our Whatsapp group.

I dont think its merely that, even before he got here, he had that reputation. Another thing is that even when he was benched, even as a big name, he hardly sulked and still tried. Compare that to ADM for example. Another thing is that to his credit, even after leaving us, he has never taken shots at the club, LVG or anyone associated with the club. Look at how often big name players take shots at others when they leave a club.

You could see with their comments that the players genuinely seemed to enjoy having him around, something someone like ADM didnt get.

Falcao is a cool looking guy and a nice guy so everyone wants him to succeed but when the time is up, the time is up.

Sad to say, I think this is true. I was a big fan of his last season and put his lack of goals down, in part, to his finding Van Gaal's system hard to play in.

If I'm pretending what's going on inside his head, so are you because his actions can be interpreted both ways. You claim he knows he's past it and only went to Chelsea for financial reasons, I say he went there because he thought he could still compete at that level.

Again, it's not about feeling sorry, neither do I, but there's also no reason to bash him, as he didn't trash our club in any way. He didn't work out, which I predicted when a lot of people were excited to sign him up, but that's no reason to unnecessarily make fun of him.

I know that. That's the reason I pointed to the evidence of past moves for his motivations. There's more to point to money being the number one concern than playing on a weekly basis. Chelsea play with one striker and Costa was their top scorer. The chances of going in ahead of him were always slim.

I think Mourinho's having difficulty getting the best out of Chelsea, let alone Falcao. If he gets the sack it will be his own arrogance that cost him. Instead of trying to sign a quality striker he went and signed Falcao who was terrible last season. It's like Brendon with Balotelli, it's not going to work.

Probably based on all the interviews and articles about him around the time he signed for United. Does a lot of charity work including massive work in Columbia for kids trying to get away from drugs scene

He always comes across very humble in interviews too. Would have been a journal if not for football

Its also due to the fact he was once a world class striker, one that everyone enjoyed to watch, scoring goals for fun. But he never came across as arrogant, he's always seemed very modest.

Hopefully we'll see a good cameo from Loic Remy's backup.
