Mourinho on Martial after today's game

Apart from De Gea, Shaw and perhaps Pogba earlier in the season, who has actually played well this season anywhere on the pitch? Some of the slack Martial gets on here is ridiculous. Our attackers have been awful for 3 years. Each of them have way more potential than they are showing.

Whether this comment from him is singling out Martial' s performance or is an explanation why he dropped Sanchez it don't really matter. Jose shouldn't be even talking like this. It is an embarrassment to the club and totally unprofessional.

Lads Martial was abolsutely diabolical. Arguably a zero out of ten performance and this was before the game got away from us. Yes mourinho is letting his ego try prove people that they aren’t always right but our players have been withiut responsibility for 5 years. If martial played like that in Madrid or Milan he wouldn’t be safe leaving the stadium

He picked him. Criticise the players Ok, but he's trying to shift the responsibility for actually picking them to play.

Martial earned the right to start today. No one would argue he had a poor game, a long with others, but using him as some kind of basis to argue you were right all along when you are the one who picked the team is bizarre and extremely childish.

No one forces mourinho to pick the teams he does and there were bigger issues than martial today. He had mctominay at cebtreback for feck sake.

He's in the same Pogba for me. No sense of responsibility for doing his own job properly.

It is far worse when it is the manager who is doing that.

This. It shows a basic lack of responsibility as a manager.
Mourinho strikes me as the kind of adult who wouldn't have a problem arguing with a child.
As @kouroux said, it's far more damaging when a manager does it.

Anyone that thinks those comments would only affect Martial is deluded. If I saw my manager say that about a colleague, my first thought would be that he can do the same to me.
And people wonder why he doesn't seem to be able to get through to the players.
He has a destructive personality. He can't help it and he will never change.

He was asked about the whole attack, yet answered as if he'd been asked only about Martial, he's just so transparent it's embarrassing, what about answering why Lukaku couldn't hit a barn door just now, or why he set the whole attack up to fail.

Exactly - Martial was better than Lukaku; but he would never bad mouth any of his loyal ones. I just cant believe after all this repetitive things that happen at Chelsea, Madrid and now at United - why doesn't he have the ability to stop and change the way he does things?

Post match he questioned Martial's focus on defensive duties and that playing him centrally as a second striker meant he only had to track Rice.

Whilst praising McTominay who wasn't great.

Jose has an agenda in everything he does.
This is one thing I don't get, why the weird bigging up of McTominay every chance he gets? It's like he wants to reward mediocrity.

Because he's incapable, he's done it too many times now to think different, l just hope most fans see him for what he is when he goes, and wipe the slate clean for all the players.

Because at united we promote youth and he wants praise for bringing a youngster through, also a veiled message to other youngsters like periera to take his side or suffer.

He said the same thing about Rashford and Martial last season away to Brighton. The man is a vile pig.

I just which the fans would stop falling for it, but many don’t. Which is why he gave us the no player is bigger than Man United crap.

It seems like he feels vindicated when players like Martial and Rashford struggle. Instead of encouraging them and helping them to be better players. but when its players like Lukaku, Matic he will never say anything and praise their attitudes. Remember Lukaku running back in the 90th minute or something epitomising the spirit of the team? and singling out players on a day like this is a bad move. The whole team collectively was a shambles. He should be apologizing to the fans.

Those comments from Mourinho are why I don't give a feck what Pogba says about him, treat others as you wish to be treated, that is pure scapegoating when we had an entire team that played shit today, and while Martial didn't play well that doesn't change the fact Alexis has been crap all season, Mourinho has added 2+2 and came up with 5.

Only a fool would think this man cares about the club's reputation.
The only thing he cares about is defending himself.
Can't believe people still say his post Sevilla comments were about deflecting from the players. The man is a narcissist.

Does the Media and Social Media influence his decision?

And why does he have to leave one of them out? Play both at the same time maybe?

I have criticized Martial multiple times over his lack of output but this comment by Jose is so OTT when the whole team was ridiculous. Instead of taking responsibility for the defeat he's throwing blames.

Sanchez was piss poor against Burnley, even getting the hook in the 61st minute for Rashford. Martial did more today than Sanchez did in that game, not by a whole lot but that one move I mentioned in particular was the difference. Sanchez can't even take on players anymore.
He really wasn't. I think you're remembering what you want to remember. To be clear, I think Sanchez has been a major disappointment for us. Doesn't change the fact that Martial was useless today.

It's the Caf, we've just lost so the meltdown will ensue. I agree nothing in that quote. He gave Martial a chance and left Sanchez out, that's his comment.
The hysteria in this thread over nothing is something else.

I'm honestly not really seeing the problem here. In the wider context of his comment and the question it makes sense that he can't make a single squad move because some form of fan/player/media/board backlash will happen. How the hell is he meant to keep these guys ready and motivated to play when they themselves don't even seem to be able to.

Side note: What the hell is with people slamming a chunk of text onto the Caf with no context and then hordes of emotional train-wrecks descending like vultures and piling on and making up any old narrative and running with it? New phenomenon for sure. Toxic, cyclical behavior. Get some fresh air and sun after a defeat.

The new way of making factual news. Kinda the thing now on any social media.

I never liked the way Mourinho has managed him, but I also don't see anything wrong with the quotes, especially after watching the video of his post-game presser. He made a good point, Martial is not a defensive player, some of us have been wanting to see him up top with Lukaku because they showed good chemistry last season together. It's just the rest of the formation he put up that undid him more than anything. If it was really done just to prove a point to the fans or the board, it's beyond stupidity especially since this partnership up top needs more than one game together and a much better midfield to make it work. I would change the midfield, and the defense clearly but I wouldn't give up on a Martial-Lukaku partnership after just one game.

this. tired of scrappy wins on our fight to 2nd place. that's the best he can get out of this squad.
