Tend to agree. It seems to be Mourinho’s tactic to try to motivate players into proving him wrong. I’m not sure where he has picked this up from as it was never something he did 10 years ago.
For some players this type of tactic doesn’t work and I would suggest Martial is the type of guy that needs an arm round him. It was something Sir Alex was so good at understanding how to motivate a player. Mourinho’s strength in the past was his man management. The number of players that have come out from his Chelsea and Inter days saying they would walk through walls for him. I really believe modern day footballers don’t take criticism as well anymore and he hasn’t realised that yet. He then takes offence to them not responding and it becomes personal.
I read a great article about how Mourinho is a narcissist. I initially took it as yet another Mourinho bashing opinion piece but I am starting to believe it’s true. Some of his tactical approaches just seems to be a way of proving people he’s always right. The fans cry for attacking football now we start losing games. He made a point of subbing Pogba and Martial at the weekend. He then specifically states in his post match interview that fans wanted Martial to start and he didn’t perform. Everything he does at the moment feels like he fighting with someone be it with players, fans, the media, the board. He’s ironically always on the defence.
Just when I think Jose has lost it completely, he makes a Brady Bunch reference... and totally redeems himself!

Just watched the full post match presser and tbh I’m kinda surprised. Based on what some have been saying here and on fan channels I was fully expecting to be incensed by Mourinho throwing Martial under the bus in an attempt to deflect from the performance. But I don’t think that’s what happened.
He was asked why he played a back 3 so he brings up Martial. He says he doesn’t think he’s too focused on defending so he played him up top, where he’d only have to cover Declan Rice. But of course that meant he needed an extra man in defence to cover those duties. You can tell by his tone that it’s all very matter of fact. Not at all like when he did throw him and rashford under the bus by effectively saying - see that’s why I play Lukaku instead of them, in an exercise of I’m better than you.
Jose has many faults. He has a huge ego. He’s extremely stubborn. And he can be very snipey when he feels people are questioning his decision. But right now I think things are being spun because people sense blood.
