Morgan Schneiderlin | Everton Player

Good luck to him. Shame it didn't work out with us. Seems like a nice lad and has handled himself well under the circumstances.

This will be another one of those transfers whereby opposition fans ask why we let him go. Similar to Hernandez, Kagawa etc.

But in reality, as good as some players are, when you place them in a Manchester United shirt, they don't perform to the levels that saw them secure a move in the first place. Often because they struggle with the expectancy that comes with playing for Manchester United. I'm at pains to blame Van Gaal or Mourinho, because Schneiderlin had plenty of opportunities, he simply didn't do enough to warrant his place in the first XI on a regular basis.

Schneiderlin will probably do well at Everton - less pressure, fewer competition for places, less scrutiny etc. But that's not to say that in 12 months time we should regret letting him go. Because the levels that we aspire to be at (European champions?) require better, more headstrong individuals than Schneiderlin.

This will likely be the case with Depay too.

Hernandez more than justified his move to us. And he left us when we needed him more than ever. The only reason he left was due to LVGs deluded philosophy.

Real shame that it didnt work out

Would have liked to see him get a run of games under Jose

Hernandez had gone cool long before LVG arrived.

We have to have another midfielder coming in now surely? We are terribly thin with Fellaini,Pogba,Herrera,Schweinsteiger for 3/4 competitions

I think this'll turn out a coup for Everton. Shame Schneiderlin didn't work out here though, we were all so excited at the time

Think us getting any midfielder was a good sign and a cause for celebration at the time. I had high hopes for Morgan though.

I'll be sad to see him go. I don't often care when failed players leave but I really thought he could be great for us.

Blind? TFM?

I'm glad he's gone, without sounding too harsh. A complete waste of a signing.

I'm not saying he didn't.

Reality is, he was never going to show the kind of form he has since displayed at Leverkusen, because playing for Manchester United is a totally different animal - Ferguson mentioned this numerous times re players.

Indeed, and Im not sure Schweini is even a real option at the mo. Think its 4 midfielders covering for 3 spots.

Blind? TFM?
Mourinho hasn't tried Blind in midfield once, I very much doubt he is the type of midfielder he's looking for I'm afraid. We know he likes energetic well rounded midfielders.

TFM could be an option but he hasn't really had a sniff, I think he is unsure of him.

Certainly one of the biggest transfer disappointments. After all the hype that surrounded him he really failed to deliver.

Carrick has come back in. Hes not energetic. Blind could maybe cover him

Most of us did.

But honestly, watching his performances over the last 12 months - he is a shell of the player he was at Southampton. Mourinho must have doubted his character. His lack of confidence saw him retreat within himself - he played the easy pass, never took responsibility, etc. A change of mindset would have needed to come from Morgan himself, but in reality, he never looked equipped to handle being a Manchester United player.

Very true. Was really pleased when we signed him but it just hasn't worked. If he regains his confidence, I think he'll do a good job at Everton.

you put Schweinsteiger but omit Carrick?

Obviously I forgot to list Carrick, but that's mainly because he is first choice regardless of the other CM's. We really need another CDM and atleast 1 more CM really.

Blind could possibly do the CDM job but I thought he would have tried him there by now, maybe home at Reading would be a good audition.

Will he come in as a starter for Everton? They seem to be doing well with Barry and Gueye as the deep midfielders, with McCarthy returning from injury soon and the young fella Davies as back up.

Louis van Gaal - the worst manager in the history of United with transfers.
Not that bad, although in modern era where so many transfers happen we don't have many other reference points of United managers. Regardless of whether we had already agreed deal for few of these, Herrera, Shaw, Rojo, Blind, TFM are still here and look part of plans. Darmian doesn't get much love on caf but is used regularly by Mourinho. Romero and Martial are also LvG transfers. di Maria, Schneiderlin, BFS, Memphis on other hand were not successful. LvG's playing style and rigidity are his faults but if a manager is given to turn things around quickly and buys 12-14 players in 2 summers, some are bound to be unsuccessful.

A midfield 2 of Schneiderlin and gueye would have more or less 0 attacking ability. Koeman probably wants to make Everton hard to score against like he did at Soton

He bought Darmian, Depay, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger in 2015, and all of them have flopped hard.

Not sure we can blame him too much though, most of us thought that was a magnificent summer for us. Schneiderlin was being touted at the caf for months as a must buy player. We really are idiots. :smirk:

He bought a lot of flops, but Schneiderlin feels like one that was forgivable. When you buy someone who's mid 20s and who's performed well in the league over a few seasons, it shouldn't be a risk. Unlike Depay and Schweinsteiger for instance, who were both gambles.

Jose does too in all honesty.

He mentioned in one of his press conferences how United are forced to pay too much but her very little when we sell.
The thing is when we sell players 99.9% of the time it's because we don't want them anymore and want them off the wage bill, which obviously weakens our negotiating position.

We've also, historically anyway, allowed players to move for lower transfer fees so as not to stand in their way when it's time for them to move on due to wage differentials. That does seem like it may change somewhat under Jose though.

Really disappointed in him. Almost completely invisible in games when we needed people who wouldn't shrink away. Hard to say what went wrong

It really isn't. Van Gaal was obsessed with keeping possession and he signed a midfielder who passed the ball like he'd never seen one before. Blind and Schweinsteiger aside Van Gaal did nothing but sign players who didn't suit playing the way he wanted to play.

Schneiderin hasn't performed remotely as well at United as he did at Southampton, including with the ball at his feet, so its not really a question of having the wrong qualities in a footballer. Granted if you put a player in a system that doesn't suit them you dont get the best from them, but Schneiderlin hasn't even replicated the things he did at Southampton well.

Of those 4, only Darmian has actually been given a chance this season by Mou.

Schweinsteiger could play the exact role for us that Carrick does, but he's given no chance.

I'll be disappointed to see Schneiderlin go, I really thought he was going to be something great for us.

I see where you're coming from, but when they're not playing at all they can't really impress in training, can they?

Strange this, I thought Mou was going to love Schneiderlin, seems like his sort of player. Unless he is a true coward, which very well might be the case after watching him last season. No imposing, no tackling (this disappointed me the most, I thought he was a tackling machine), no forward passes, no nothing.
