Moises Caicedo | Chelsea agree £115M fee | signed for Chelsea

To those questioning the move due to the profile difference between the two, I imagine that would clarify tweets from yesterday saying they had many other midfielders deemed acceptable, but Mount was the preferred choice.

I guess Mount would have been preferred for his creativity, possibly playing deeper or allowing Bruno to drop deeper, but with Caicedo’s engine and press resistance next to Casemiro, we’d have a much stronger midfield base, allowing others to be more attacking.

This would be a great signing if we can get him, rather than paying what Chelsea want for Mount, Caicedo is a better fit even for the extra money it costs.
He can play alongside Casemiro but also cover his position and play with Eriksen. If we get Mount we still need a DM as well

Kudus would be a alternative to Mount imo.

Unfortunatly, this might be Man Utd putting pressure on Chelsea to sell Mount.

(Could also be that the club decided to wait wity Caicedo to after agreeing on Mount to not put that deal at risk. But right now it feels more like the first.)

I can’t understand how stupid Chelsea have been over this. Good job in keeping a player that will leave for free next year who doesn’t have a spot in your 11 anymore as you lose a player that would help turn your team around on his own.

You guys got a stupid owner

Yeah but pushed into a corner, they might just go all out and overpay massively to get him. Felt like a relatively free run until now. Romano was briefing that we would turn to Caicedo after sorting out a couple of sales. We don’t have that time now, if these United briefs are true.

I wanted to go and read Chelsea fans' thoughts on this but their forums are dead. What gives?

Northcroft seems a good journo, so I think we might actually have pivoted away for now. He's also suggesting that we've been in talks for Caicedo during the negotiations for Mount.

Good, Caicedo would be a much better option, but I am convinced we will still sign Mount (and not Caicedo).

Caicedo over Mount for me. The new Kanté. A Casemiro/Caicedo double-pivot would be a brilliant foundation for a team to go forward from.
Most importantly it would put our best attacker back in his proper position. Fernandes no.10 with a proper no.9 not over the age of 33 or with fully functioning legs…

There isn’t a single good Chelsea forum out there. Chelsea twitter is mostly happy with these news though.

Whatever about the general veracity of the story, "limited budget" doesn't make sense as a reason to be okay with switching targets. Caicedo might be a better value deal at a higher price given his age and diferent contract situation, but he would still cost more.

Seems like journos are reading Redcafe, writing what people want to here. Or maybe we're really interested in him.

You are right. He does seem good.

But I also worry that it could be Man Utd feeding him information as part of negotiating tactic over Mount. Could be me being pessimistic as Caicedo/Rice have been a type of player I have been hoping for.

(Notice that he is considered tier 3 in here

He's probably cost less over the course of his contract as his wages would surely be less. Saying that we'll probably give him 350k a week.

In 2013 we got Moyes. In 2023 we get Moises?

Although I think this is a negotiation tactic for Mount.

Indeed. Will also help the full backs or even centre halves who may want to get forward at times.

Caicedo is a dream signing for me, he has looked fantastic. Would be delighted with this outcome.

Will paying whatever Brighton wants for Caicedo be a smart move?
No.

But for some reason I think we’re in for both and just were focusing on Mount whilst monitoring the Caicedo situation & pouncing when needs be.

This tweet proves my theory (kinda)

Would be great to bid but we are obviously going to pull out at £55/60m
Our budget is tight, if Brighton want a big fee they know they can wait for Chelsea to get their house in order.

Paying about 70 million for him will be smart business imo.

People falling for this  Clearly a tactic to twist Chelsea’s hand. Pretending to enter the bidding war and raising Caicedo’s price who Chelsea are after. Watch Chelsea dropping the price for Mount now and us signing him in the coming days.

That wouldn't be bad. If the price drops enough.
