I did say it depends on who we sell. Shift Henderson and McT for decent fees and it opens up a lot more funds because they're from the academy.

If it’s a negotiating tactic for Mount, first time I’ve seen us do that. If we’re actually interested in him, then quite strange that we move from Mount to Caicedo given the differences in their profiles.

They're different situations though. Mount has a year left on his deal, while Caicedo just signed a new deal. Chelsea moved on Kovacic to City for £30m quickly but assumed they could get United to pay £65m for Mount because United have been largely inept in the transfer market for years. It would make more sense to pay £70-80m for Caicedo than £60m for Mount.
This would be a lot better than mount but we will probably cave to Chelsea in the end
Mount has a year left and won't renew, while Caicedo just signed a new extension. Chelsea can get £55m or nothing for Mount, while Brighton have more leverage for Caicedo.
That's not how it works though. United could afford to pay £120m for Mount. Chelsea valued Kovacic, last year of contract, at £30m, when dealing with City.
Caicedo is not in the last year, Brighton have a much stronger hand than Chelsea.
It’s about how you value the players. Chelsea were OK paying £105M for Enzo but they for damn sure weren’t going to pay up if for example Sporting wanted £80M for Ugarte.

Move quickly for him and we get it done. Can’t risk dithering and making it a bidding war with other sides. Cause we lose and then come back and pay even more for Mount.
As could any team in the world, yet there are a number of them prepared to spend big money on him. We could have had RKM for free last year. We could have had Hoijland for 17m last year. If you go back far enough, we could have gotten almost anyone for less than their peak value. Get over it.

Caicedo over Mount for me. The new Kanté. A Casemiro/Caicedo double-pivot would be a brilliant foundation for a team to go forward from.
