Mohamed Salah

He's just got flop written all over him.

For Chelsea you would imagine, yes.

No idea how he would get on with regular game time, but if someone like De Bruyne can't get a game for them, what does Salah imagine?

I really don't understand why some players are so short-sighted and accept moves to these places. Their clubs and agents must just force them.

Fair play to De Bruyne, by the way. He gave it six months, got sick of it, and I'm sure he'll become a really good player elsewhere.

I would agree if we were further off the pace this season, but with far easier fixtures than City and only one point behind them surely we should seize the day and not worry about next season untill the summer.

I take your point...you never know he may be looking at things now. He obviously pushed for the Mata deal to be done quickly so he could look at potential targets this window.

Just not sure who you could get in at this stage though. Diego Costa possibly.

Yes him, now that Falcao is out of the question. Also Benzema possibly. Thing is next seaosn will be a clean slate and United will have an eager Mata, and this time he can play against us.

Just rumours from other sites, but I think Salah is waiting for another club to match Chelsea's bid so he doesn't end up there. I feel sorry for him if that's true. He just wants to "play" at the top level (not sit on the bench at top level).

I just think before he buys anyone he will want to gauge whether he can snag Rooney, once and for all.

I can't think of any top level clubs who are in for him though. City, united and Arsenal are not interested and neither are the big two in Spain. Of course he could move to a club that is not even in European competition and play every week but he might as well stay at Basel and wait for a decent opportunity to come about.

I'm guessing he's being signed as a backup and alternative to Willian. Willian is the better passer and in recent weeks seems to be doing a good job tracking back as Mourinho demands so it looks like things are starting to turn for him now that he's had time to settle. Salah is just as good and perhaps better when his team dont have the ball which will delight Mourinho and his pace and direct running will at the very least be a good option after an hour off the bench. Personally I'm still underwhelmed by Willian but I'm not sure Mourinho is giving up on his expensive signing already

Willians been one of our best players in the last month, hes just started to click with the team. I must admit I have not sene much of this Salah guy besides against us.

While I can see that point of view re-Willian, he looked a player with a good shot and good goal threat in his champions league outings before you signed him. He's taken his 2 goals well but thats a lot less than I was expecting him to score for you.

Players dont bed in instantly, up untill the past month or two he had been average, but hes gelled now. Not going to score many goals I dont think, not setting him up for that. Surprised if he gets above single figures for a season, but his passing range and ability has looked very good.

And the fact that he doesn't play for Tottenham is even better for you lot, I suppose.

I just looked up and saw that De Bruyne was sold for 17 million quid. What is that all about? After half a season and Chelsea cashed in 10 million profit? What?

I can see the confusion because he looked average at Chelsea, but he made a big reputation in Germany last season while on loan. He could be another Matic that they end up buying back in a couple of years for an inflated price.

I love laughing at the dippers but it all seriousness Chelsea take the piss with stuff like this. They have a team out on loan practically that could be in contention for a Europa place. There should be some limits to squad size and how many loans you can have at one time. Its unfair competition when you boil it down.

Do you actually think we spent £30 million quid because we were scared of Tottenham? I

I think you probably had a range of options for a new signing in that position, and you decided that you'd go with the one that Tottenham wanted the most themselves, yes.

I mean, I doubt Chelsea just did it exclusively to hurt them, but I'm sure it was considered.

An added little bonus perhaps but the fact he's starting games for us and we have sold mata and de bruyne kinda proves Jose actually wanted the player.

Salah is a different kettle of fish, he reminds me of the de Bruyne signing. Not a real risk as he's young and relatively cheap.

If you'd really wanted him, would you have let him get as close to Tottenham as you did? Strikes me as unlikely.

He was proper shite against us though.

We paid 30 million quid. Of course we really wanted him.

Do you let a player get so close to eluding you?

I reckon you'd earmarked £30m on that slot in your team and you had a few options. There's no way you'd let him have a medical across town if he was the one you'd always been after. It's logic.

I'm sure we had a few irons in the fire and when it came to light Willian was available, we made our move. He'd been linked with us for a couple of years at least.

If we didn't want him we would not have bought him. You seem to be arguing that we didn't want him that much, which seems pretty silly as he's starting games and doing well.

You sure? he was called by many including MOTD as one of the best on the pitch that day, that run he made through the midfield was sublime. No way was he shite.

All I remember him doing was lose the ball. In comparison Hazard had me petrified the whole way through. But I ain't watching the game again

He doesn't do the sort of stuff Hazard does all the time that will have you scared. We still live in a football world where people only truly seem to appreciate players that attack, attack, attack and are silky smooth. Willian won the ball back, tackled well, and was a big part in keeping control of the game, he was pretty strong as well.

We all see what we want to see in players, and a lot of people seem to want Willian to be a failure because of the way he was signed and the price, but he was actually really good both last sunday and in his last half a dozen games.

To be fair William seem more like the Mourinho type of player than Mata or De Bruyne. He is fast, direct, strong and does track back alot.

Definitely. Although in this case, Liverpool badly handled what was a slam dunk for them by trying to cheap it with the Suisse club. So hard to feel sorry for the club that spent so much time scouting and preparing for Salah's arrival to have it all undone by lowballing a previously held verbal agreement with Basel over the fee.

Still, feel for the player because it is Chelsea and not the place where players come to flourish but languish. Suisse press intimate the player doesn't want to go to London either as he fears for his playing fate

You've had your fair share as well.

Yes. Every player that Chelsea has ever bought, failed there miserably, never improved and never won anything.

Do Chelsea actually have any scouts or do they just hijack everyone elses moves?

Hazard, Mata, Essien, Mikel, Willian just to name a few...!

Yes, Chelsea never buys too many players for a normal sized squad then ends up marginalizing them and ultimately dumping them

I'm sure it wasn't just a WUM on your part and you've got some evidence to back up a statement like that

Most of those players will never make the squad, true. Doesn't mean they'll be dumped, they'll just find another club, where their talent and skill set will be in demand, and hopefully will fetch some fee in the process. The best though, like Lukaku, Courtois, Piazon, etc will most likely feature for Chelsea in the future.

We can't, of course, compare ourselves to Barcelona, the club so moral and above board when it comes to transfer deals, but one can dream.

Doesn't make much sense this deal. They've effectively got rid of the more proven (better player) in De Bruyne and replaced him with Salah

They don't buy talent just to take them away from other clubs to rot on a bench or loan somewhere else nevermind field a squad so large you could field two teams with some to spare...Even when they leave the club, players talk fondly of their time there

Exactly, i guess most teams have done it at sometime (Diego Forlan in our case) but Chelsea absolutely take the piss and more often simply swing hijacked deals their way with £££
