MLB 2023

Odd game tonight. Mets have 17Ks, we have 7 stolen bases, tied at 5 in the tenth.

Bottom ninth three run homer by the Mets took it to extras, three run homer then walks it off for the Mets. Irritating. Bull pen shat the bed significantly tonight.

Just got mlb.tv half price. Last 2 years now it’s been an easy early Father’s Day gift.

looks like the giants have figured some things out the last few games? Or are they just playing bad teams?

hoping to get to a few orioles games this year now my work schedule has freed up and they look like a lot of fun. We usually go to the Nats Giants games in DC, planning on catching the A’s there too this year

Would love to pull the trigger on MLB.TV, but it seems silly as a giants fan on the east coast.

I think the current run is down to finally having some prospect pay off, pitching, and LaMont wade somehow being a top 5 in the NL WAR ranking player.

How come? I thought it was better if you were out of state because the regional media blackouts don't apply? Or maybe I've got it the wrong way round

Oh. That's a big ooff
Yeah. When I was in Alabama for grad school the 9pm starts were doable because I was: a) young and thought sleep was stupid and b) was in grad school and could roll into lab at 9am.

I love watching home grown prospects no matter the sport. It’s why I stopped watching the Lakers when they traded all the kids and picks for AD. The Giants have some exciting guys in the league (Schmitt and Bailey) and two even more exciting guys (Matos and Harrison) on the way. The temptation to pull the trigger on the pass is strong, but then I stay up late a night or two for calls with Asia and am reminded why it’s a bad idea.

I can highly recommend the MLB app as aUK viewer, best sports app bar none and I watch every Mets game (or fall asleep to it).

Thanks! I’ll look into it, although my marriage may not survive yet another sports based subscription. Currently I’m at: Peacock for PL, Paramount for Champ League, and HBO/YouTube.TV for USMNT (and PL). :D

Hahaha amazing.

I pay £22pm but pause it in the off season. Even the animated live updates are rad

Do you get the same 3 adverts during breaks on repeat 50 times a game like me? No spitting. This is a non-spitting museum. etc

I use MLB.tv on my laptop and cast it to my TV, and the 'Privacy Badger' chrome extension does away with the cycle of 3 adverts, and just throws up a silent "commercial break in progress" screen instead, which is much better. Those same few ads drove me mad.

TELL ME MORE - I am watching on my phone

I have paramount, peacock, ESPN+, NBA, now MLB, and fanatiz.
Paramount, peacock, and ESPN+ I got cc deals so they’re free. NBA was a gift for me, mlb was 50% off and a gift to my dad I can use and fanatiz is just a great deal.

the rest of our Roku apps are mostly just logged into in laws tv provider

I have odd sleeping patterns so that’s not the worst. I also am still trying to get into the sport, it’s decent in the background, and it furthers my Bay Area sports fandom I suppose

This is the Chrome extension I use on my laptop: https://privacybadger.org/

Not sure how you'd get around it if you're watching via the app on your phone. You'd need a standalone app that does the same thing as Privacy Badger, which I don't know if such a thing exists.
I could log in on laptop and perhaps cast to my TV.

Tbh I've wanted to invent an application/device that instantly muted and black screens and breaks - sure someone has already done this or will steal this idea

Oh yeah, what happened there? Merrifield got me a whole bunch of points in fantasy.
They got some seeing eye hits in the first few innings that scored them four runs, Taj was pulled & the long reliever got lit up a bit. It was 11-1 going into the top of the ninth, that’s when they tacked on nine more runs v. our CF, then our catcher. Gave up 27 hits all game I believe. Every outfield player for the Jays got at least a hit.

They thoroughly outplayed us in the first five innings, 11-1 was a fair score line.

No way. Jays scored 9 in the 9th?

20 runs in 27 hits is brutally efficient.

Edit - Ah, outfielders pitchings; that can only ever go one way.

Yeah, thankfully against our outfield players & not more relievers.

Their hits early on were broken bat singles that would go over the 2B glove / SS glove by a foot & bring a run or two in, a couple of infield hits that brought others in, a couple of homers tossed in there for good measure.

They were comprehensively the better team last night. Hopefully that’s out of their system as we still have tonight & tomorrow afternoon left to play.

AL east is absolutely ridiculous this year. Bottom two teams being 26-23 is insane
That's better than every team in the AL Central and good enough for second spot in a couple of other divisions

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a game with both teams in almost the same shade of blue. It’s almost indistinguishable between the two.

Our fecking bullpen is absolutely putrid.

Good bounce back to take 3 of 4 against the Blue Jays.

We’re facing the Dodgers for the next three games, the first time we’ve faced them after the 2020 WS. We get Glasnow back healthy after a quality rehab with Durham.

The Rangers offense must be insane, on pace for 1043 runs scored which would fall short of the 1931 Yankees for the modern era record; 4th overall behind 1936 and 1930 Yankees editions. The last team to top 1000 runs in a season was the 1999 Cleveland Indians, would not have guessed that stat. The Rays are on a crazy pace to 975 runs scored.

Both teams are on all-time run differential paces as well, with Texas on pace for 2nd highest ever, 395, and Rays at 366 would be the 4th best all-time in the modern era (if Texas continues ahead). Last year's Dodgers cracked the list at 334 to tie 3rd best all-time.

So geeked that Tyler Glasnow is back on the bump for us for a couple of reasons, main one being his fall of the table curve.

This matchup v. Kershaw should be a fun one.

I know a lot of the regular fans are slightly annoyed by the pitch clock but for people like me who watch it occasionally this is such a nice change & has made the game much more watchable
