Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Pretty surprised by Barmby - looked classy whenever I saw him play. Wonder what the motivation there is.

Those three lads will make good pro's, but won't make the top level. I think that there are younger lads that are ahead of them, and therefore it doesn't make sense to hold them back in their careers by having them hang around the reserves.

Won't we be short of players for the reserves next season?

By what sense? We will have 11 players moving up from the U18s we have around 25 older lads who's not in the first team.Even if we loan out 15 of them we still have 20 available.

Not really sure where to put this since it's not really Man Utd relevant news, but Chelsea won 5-3 against Fulham in the youth cup tonight with a last minute winner to take the tie 7-6 on aggregate

City can get fecked. The only English starlet who'll be poached this summer is Matt Willock's kid brother, by us from Le Arse.

And Tosin Adarabioyo from City themselves apparently
(rumour only, don't ask me where it was coming from!)

I found it weird how disparaging the article was about our youth system and the number of prospects we have within the club when they're writing an article about City trying to poach one of our players, while also referencing the scoring debut of Wilson.

From the same article

Chelsea have an issue arising with highly-rated defender Andreas Christensen. The Denmark U21 centre half wants to play more games and other clubs, such as City, will offer the promise of a quicker route to the first team.

Yeah because City are so renowned for giving youngsters a chance.

Demi Mitchell came on as a sub for England u17s as a sub in a 3-0 win over Malta, but the undoubted star was Patrick Roberts who scored 2 and set up the other one. I know this is a terrible thing to say but I really really hope we can sign Roberts :D

Milk Cup's Twitter confirmed that Manchester United will go back to compete in the Premier Section this summer.Few quality sides this time including Southampton,Benfica,Newcastle,Espanyol,...

Sam Johnstone was withdrawn from the England U21s squad today due to injury.

I don't think it's a fresh news but the rest of the second-year scholars who wasn't released (i.e not Ioannou or Barber) or already signed professional deal (Wilson and all the foreigner lads) have all been offered one-year professional contract bar Willock who'll get two years. Not clear whether they have signed them or not.

Even though he's too young to sign, I heard today that RVP's lad prefers City because of the coaching!

I'm not gonna pretend that I care about a 8-9 years old kid's club selection.Football is a game of opinion.Numerous kids has chosen us over City.Few kids even chose the likes of Crewe over big clubs like us.Doesn't make us an inferior academy compared to them.

People loves the idea of having son of current or ex-players in our youth setup but realistically speaking there is no guarantee that they have a better chance to become a star than a random kid of our setup.

For your records we have Meulensteen,Savage,Giggs's sons in our rank anyway (and Ritchie Wellens's son but he didn't play any senior match for us so his son must be crap!).

Statistically, our academy is the most successful in producing footballers ever. We have had more of our academy products play the game for us and elsewhere than anyone else. We've also had at least one academy product in our match day squad since 1937, a consecutive run of some 3,700 games. That's something to be proud of.

City and Chelsea hoard players like some trophy and then don't give them a chance. If he wants to ruin his career then so be it.

Jesus wept, don't shoot the messenger, it's only information, and for your record my lad is in the academy, I have shared the info as this story has been in the media.

By the way khoazany you should do your research, there is a massive emphasis on the 8 year old age group, as this is the youngest age a player can sign for the academy, after this clubs have to pay a transfer fee in line with the EPPP. Welbeck, Pearson, Wilson, Lingard & Thorpe to name a few all joined the club at 8.

Gigg's lad is 7 by the way, so he's not in anyone's academy just yet.

This was done already in another thread. RVP and P Neville's sons both train with City. I think it had something to do with the schools they attend?

Either way Its not a pissing contest when its comes to 11 year old "footballers"

Forgot to say but congratulations to your son and the best of luck to him. Thanks for any info too.

Thanks for the info :) I know the emphasis of recruitment on that age group, just don't think a lad chosen City over us is a loss (unless you've watched him and you think he's special then fair enough, I couldn't have access to those kind of info).I've heard there's a lad who's Player of the tournament for us in a tourno last year left for City and IMO that is much bigger of a loss (again I haven't watched any of them so I just bash my opinion on their "achievement", which could be misleading when you're talking about youth football).

How long has your son been with the academy?

Yes, I know, because the other thread was full of the typical caf uninformed crap.

Nothing to do with the schools they attend, Neville's lad has signed for City, he's an under 12 I think, probably signed when Nev was at Everton.

RVP's lad is 7, he can't sign for any academy yet, but he has been training at both the City & Utd advanced development centre.

All I have stated is what I heard, that he has chosen City. Both have a different philosophy when it comes to training, City is very much about passing and playing as a team, Utd is about dribbling and being individual. He has simply chosen City because he prefers the training. From what I saw he was struggling at Utd because it is very individual
and is very much a sink or swim environment.

Very much a none story, but I thought I would share the info.

Khoazany's post above does touch on an interesting point, City are aggressively going after our best local talent from the academy and have taken some of our best players and coaches by offering financial rewards. This is only going to get worse with the imminent opening of the Etihad campus. Utd will definitely have to change their approach in how the academy is run in order to counter this trend.

Our youth budget is really limited compared to them and it's only get worse with the first team's poor result and the first-team signings to let us back on competing for the title.I've heard one of the second-year scholars who was offered a professional contract by us is considering leaving the club due to the cut-down in salary compared to the crop last year.I don't really trust Woodward when it comes to making those financial decision tbh.Hopefully things aren't as bad as I imagine.

Yeah Harvey Neville son of Phil is in City U12's book. He's a right back I think (wore no.2 for City in a tournament)

Seems strange that Woodward would speak about the importance of the quality of the academy in relation to ffp if he plans on cutting spending for it

United U11s finished top of the group yesterday after beating AGF Aarhus 2-0 and proceeded to the "Gold group" consists of us,Ajax,Porto,Shalke 04,Sparta Praha and Karpaty Lviv while Bayern and Spurs failed to make the cut.

Results of Gold group so far:
Manchester United - Sparta Praha 3 : 3
FC Porto - Schalke 04 0 : 1
Ajax Amsterdam - Karpaty Lviv 2 : 0

Top 4 of this group will proceed to the semi-final.

Good to hear. Means we are on the right track, training technical ability/dribbling/individual skills the most. Passing is of course a skill also, but the team and tactical should be learned at a later stage. City seem to be making the same mistakes as English football has for a long time, but adding emphasis on passing. I hope you son does well! Good luck.

Our U11s finished 2nd in the Mini Euro 2014.Apparently there's no semi-final so our lad proceeded straight through the final after they drew Sparta Praha 3-3,lost 0-1 vs. Porto, won Ajax 3-1,Shalke 04 2-0 and Karpaty Lviv 2-0 to finished 1st in the Gold group stage.Unfortunately we couldn't beat the same Ajax team in the final (lost 2-3)

Netherlands u17 have absolutely spanked Scotland 5-0, although Scotland qualified for the semis having shocked both Germany and Switzerland in the groups. England won earlier against Portugal to earn a rematch with the Dutch, who won the first game 2-0 in the groups. Demi Mitchell is the only Man Utd player involved for England although he doesn't seem to be an automatic starter.

Cheers for keeping us updated, nice to hear about the younger lads. Sounds like they did great! No shame, ever, in being beaten to a trophy by an Ajax youth side.

There seem to be reports that Chris Willock is likely to sign pro with Arsenal after a revised offer.

I wonder if the uncertainty around Wenger's future was the reason some of their lads were not signing contracts - could be coincidence but he's changed his mind the same week that Arsene confirmed he'll carry on for 3 more years...

Thought that said Matt Willock for a second, which gave me a scare! Bit disappointing, but I can never be too gutted about not nicking a youngster from an academy as good as Arsenal's (as opposed to some pointless shower like City's.)

U17 Euro 2014: England history beckons for Taylor Moore in final

England midfielder Taylor Moore will create a piece of history if he helps his side beat Holland to win the Under-17 European Championship on Wednesday.

England internationals plying their trade abroad are rare. No-one has won a major prize while playing overseas.

Moore, 17, who grew up in France and plays for Lens, could do exactly that.

"I have the best of both worlds," said Moore. "French and English football are different but I intend to learn from the strengths of each style."

Moore's route to the final at Malta's Ta'Qali National Stadium is an unconventional one.

Brought up until he was eight in Walthamstow, east London, Moore's family then moved to northern France, intending to remain for only 12 months.

They ended up liking it so much they are still there, meaning Moore's development, and that of his three younger brothers, has been through the French system.

It is markedly different to the one he would have been exposed to had he remained in England.

From his local club he was spotted by Lens, and he was so impressed at the set-up he decided to join.

"In France they have Under-17s and Under-19s, the reserve group and the first team," said Moore.

"From 15, you go full-time at a youth training camp. You live away from home, the club sorts out your schooling and basically watches over every aspect of your life, including what time you are asleep.

"My stories make some of the English lads raise an eyebrow but if the statistic about more professional footballers in the world being from France than any other nation apart from Brazil at the moment is correct, they are obviously doing something right."

Moore has no complaints, which is why there is no hurry for the Tottenham fan to return to the country of his birth.

"I would love to play in the Premier League," he said.

"But my club has just been promoted to the first division in Franceso hopefully they will do well, and I still have my education to finish, so I am happy where I am.

"The future is very unpredictable and it is better to have something you can fall back on."

The immediate future is a Netherlands team that defeated England earlier in the competition and scored five against Scotland in their semi-final.

"There is definitely a sense of revenge for that first game," said Moore.

"For all of us, this will be the biggest game of our lives so far. I am sure everyone will have a few nerves but there is a sense of excitement as well."
