Another foreign tournament for Manchester United 2003 (aka U11s).They will play in Murapol Cup 2014 (V Football Academy Cup 21) from 6-9 June at Kraskow,Poland.

Leeds won the tourno last year but it seems they have improved the quality of participants this time, with Barca,Valencia,Celtic all in the mix.

Seems to have been cleaned up now but from the comments it sparked I'm guessing it was pretty embarrassing.

That's surprising, but then I suppose that's due to the numbers we had. At the start of the season you had the likes of Cole, Tunnicliffe and co playing, Petrucci got games as well amongst others. I felt he needed a full season, for the first half all I can remember was him not getting any chances at all.

Yeah, the first half of the season was a total clusterfcuk of poor planning. At the end of the day, we're talking 13-14 league starts plus the u19 CL group stages for Pearson & Co. Not enough.

Will Keane dreams of taking his idol Rio Ferdinand's place at Manchester United
By DOMINIC KING

PUBLISHED: 22:30, 31 May 2014 | UPDATED: 22:30, 31 May 2014

Michael Kane gives a rueful smile. The subject of coloured footwear has cropped up and has inadvertently led to him revealing his less than flattering nickname.

‘They call me “the referee” because I’m the only one who wears black boots these days,’ the Manchester United defender explains. ‘But I can’t be wearing those bright yellow ones, can I? It’s my job to kick the players wearing bright yellow boots, isn’t it?’

Cue fits of laughter. This is the first time Keane, who is with England’s Under-20s squad at the Toulon Tournament, has given an in-depth interview but the topic of what he puts on his feet gives an insight into his character.

Fill yer boots: England Under 20 defender Will Keane hopes he can replace his idol Rio Ferdinand at United

Commanding: Will Keane helped England Under 20s secure a third-place play-off spot after a draw with Columbia

Keane has an old-fashioned approach, a player who enjoys hard work and puts the team first, never searching for compliments; those are values that will serve him well as he strives to put himself in the spotlight at Old Trafford.

This is going to be a big season for the 21-year-old, who grew up idolising Sir Alex Ferguson’s all-conquering sides, particularly as there could be an opening under Louis van Gaal to advertise his talents.

Should Van Gaal listen to advice from his new right-hand man, he will discover that Keane was in contention to make his first appearance in the Barclays Premier League the night Ryan Giggs, in his role as caretaker manager, gave youth its head against Hull City.

‘I was on the bench,’ said Keane, who had loan spells last season at Derby and Blackburn and made one of his two United starts in the League Cup against Aldershot.

‘I thought there was a chance that I was going to play but I was just happy to be involved. I’d have liked to have got on as I think I would have done well.
What a terrible article. Well researched, I think not.

I agree terrible article but I love the fact he wears black boots.

I don't think he's involved in this tournament. He was called up for Brazil U20's earlier this month for another tournament I think.

Ya you are right. I thought the Toulon tournament was for under 20's so was thinking he might have been involved.

First match tomorrow.I haven't got the fixture list so not sure what time.

Can't find the result of United's group anywhere but apparently we will face Wisla Krakow on quarter final tomorrow.Celtic topped the other group.

P.S: seems we topped the group but lost 1 game.

Bit unfortunate for us today to lost 3-4 on penalties against Wisla Krakow after it's 0-0 FT.

We won FCB Varsovia 2-1 after that so we will face SC Heerenveen in the match for 5th/6th position later.

P.S: we demolished Heenrenveen 4-1 in the final match so our final position is 5th.

Some match recording should be available soon due to magnificent effort from @KlameckiMU to travel to the tournament.

6 out of 8, beating the likes of Valencia and Heerenveen. That'll do.

Yeah this is a new set of opponents with different playing styles than those they have faced in Mini Euro last month (Ajax,Porto,Shalke etc).Onwards and upwards.

Dynamo Kiev won the tourno after beating Celtic 1-0 in the final.

Tony Whelan and Murvey are our coaches in this tournament.

One of the top blokes at the academy told me they don't win many tourneys at these younger ages because they are not looking at forming a team, they are looking for individual player's. Therefore the kids are allowed to play without much guidance from the coaches and are allowed to express themselves and show their individual talent. He also said that because of this, they tend to win player of the tournament quite a lot.

To me this makes total sense.

Absolutely spot on from what I know.

I've watched our 2002 crop play in Lech Cup as well as Chelsea's (via Youtube of course). When I'm not saying that Chelsea group doesn't have any special talent (they're one of the strongest academies around and their results were better than us in the same tournament) you can clearly see that they play as a team, with clear tactics and defensive structure when our lads tried to beat players all the time and clearly has some technically outstanding lads. When we played Hertha Berlin (the first match of the tourno I believe where we lost 0-2) we clearly look struggle tactically against a team who pressed really hard and have a big GK.Even our centre backs tried to make things happen by their own by firing long shots couple of them did hit the post.

Video of our 2003' crop vs. Ruch Chorzow in the Murapol Cup.Video quality is horrendous though and mostly only show our defence.

I thought Gollini looked really good whenever he played.. made some top saves, wouldn't be surprised to see him go well there and break into the 1st team soon

Nothing to do with Milinkovic.I've heard Gollini has a poor attitude in training and his circumstance last season didn't really help him much.

Bit of a side topic but this is Eamon Mulvey (Man Utd U10s-U11s coach) presentation about skill training for youth players if anyone interest:

This is the "showcase" match after that presentation (info a bit incorrect this is actually U11s - or this season's U12s):

We're going to Milk Cup for U13s (not sure about its relation to the well-known Milk Cup) next weekend.Venue is Coleraine Showgrounds (Northern Ireland).

Trivial, but I'm glad the academy training kit is red again, last years blue kit was awful, just didn't seem right.
