Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Are we going to hold on to Williams then this season? I know he was injured a lot of last season, but he could probably also do with the senior experience.

I think the club will let him (and Wilson) stay until January to monitor their condition tbh. Plus we're a bit short of defenders if he goes since I don't think Tuanzebe will go back to play U23s football this season knowing Mourinho.

Fair enough. Personally, I'd like to see Tuanzebe go out on loan and Williams be the emergency backup centre back (albeit that Mourinho would definitely play Carrick, Blind, Matic, Fellaini there than trust a kid), but I have a horrible feeling that Tuanzebe will not be allowed game time, just in case. Same with TFM

CBJ, Mitchell, Wilson & Riley to go?

I think Mitchell is going to stay. Wilson will be here until Jan is the word. The rest I think will be gone, sadly. Willock especially, made to think McTominay is on the tour and he's looking at the door. He's played very angry in the last couple of U23 games and he looks special. Combative. Real shame. But feck it. He'll definitely go and get first team somewhere.

Is Shoretire the one who's meant to be really good?

Weird to see the club putting in highlights of U16 matches and even having some interviews of them. Change in approach?

U16s beats Hong Kong FA U17s yesterday in their 2nd friendly in Hong Kong. Goals scored by Greenwood, Djalo/Odubeko and Mengi.

Starting XI was Allen - Wych, Mengi, Hockerhull, Elechi - Vint, Helm - Elanga, Greenwood, Sotona - Odubeko.

Djalo replaced Helm, Denham replaced Wych and Shoretire replaced Sotona in the 2nd half.

Tuanzebe was very good. Best player on the pitch for us. Boonen and Bohui lightweight at this age group at the moment, so were getting bullied a little. Swansea, especially their left back, were a bunch of cnuts. The ref should have sent a couple of them off definitely.
To be fair Tyler Reid and Kenji Gorre were pretty decent for Swansea. Mitchell got no change from Reid all night

Boonen and Bohui showed a few flashes of their ability and both worked very hard despite being outmatched physically. Mitchell and Riley both look far better when attacking from full back rather than starting on the wing. Tuanzebe looked like he found it ridiculously easy at this level and was the best player on the pitch.

Barlow, Gomes and Henderson the only players we have called up across u16-u21 age groups. We've been falling behind for a while now when it comes to young English internationals. The youth recruitment across other nations is great but we can't fall further behind in our own country.

Tbf, other English clubs are developing a lot more good talent these days. A lot of competition in the underage teams. We're still developing good English players. In the current reserves / first team we have Tuanzebe, Rashford, Lingard, Gomes, Barlow, Gribbin, Williams, Warren, CBJ, McTominay, Riley, probably a few more that I've forgotten too, who all have at least an outside chance with us. I suppose you could argue they're pretty much all local lads and perhaps we're not competing like we used to for the London lads etc. But then we also have the likes of O'Connor and Hamilton continuing our tradition of developing the best home nations talent too. Can't have it all ways. Only so much room in the squad and we should proud of developing so much local talent.

Plus of course the England youth teams have always had a habit of overlooking some of our best players until they reach the first team. Lingard for example, couldn't get a look in just because he was small.

Greenwood and Mambuene would have been in the u16 and u17 squads as well but they were in Hong Kong with our u16s and we also have 3/4 lads in the Wales u15/16s squads and 2 in the Ireland u16s. 3 other lads were called up for the England u15s squads last year but have had injuries over the past year. Levitt is also a Wales youth international and I'd be surprised if the likes of Garner and Laird aren't capped by England underage sides sooner or later as well

Castro Pereira called up to Portugal u-21s.
Largie Ramazani has now got his international clearance and can be picked for the u-18s tomorrow.

Nice, we should get more of our players to go on early loans abroad. Championship loans are a bit too hit and miss. Hope Willock does well, although I don't particularly rate him that highly.

Not sure if I see the point of keeping McTominay, Mitchell and Riley at the club and not sending them out on loan.
