Not sure about the 13s and 14s but there are some factors which make me care even less about results like the U15s
- U14 goalkeeper
- No natural CB
- Striker with Ireland
- Greenwood got injured
- Difference in philosophy

The result is not great but I'm willing to bet that more players from our U15s will make the first team than players from that City team.
It was the same result last year (at U14 level) between these sides, 9-0 two years on the bounce. Not that results matter at that age, just shows there's quite a gulf between the two sides at that age group in particular, rather than a one off fluke.

Going way OT here but the City team of late 60's/early 70's had quite a few who'd walk into the England squad these days.
Excellent players like Doyle, Young, Booth, Oakes and Pardoe totalled about a handful of caps between them and when we see guys who are not fit to lace their boots racking up the appearances it must piss them (or their ghosts) right off.
I'm sure United had similar players who were passed over too.

There was a lot of favouritism back in those times. Wasn't there once a committee who selected the squad instead of the manager?

To be fair though, I don't think the issue with a lack of natural centre backs at that age group is a new issue and probably existed last season too, that sort of thing can make all the difference. I also remember that United had like 6 players away last year for that match.

Probably not a very popular idea, but I would be cynical about it. Man City has spent a lot money pricing away the best talents in all age group the past few years. Lets to the same with them! But lets do it with players when they turn 16. Safer, more efficient and probably cheaper in the long run.

The fact that we spend less on the younger groups (we will always lose out to City there anyway) might make us able to compete for older players. Furthermore, we need to bring in managers who actually care about youth develoment to make us interesting.

You say we should spend money, then say we should take the cheaper option?

What makes you think that we will always lose out to them?

United had 8 players unavailable on that match.

5 assists in the 9-0 win according to himself on Twitter.

With a name like Doyle, there has to be some Irish roots in the family. His grandad was an England international. Michael Doyle is such an Irish name.

Yeah heard a lot of good things about him and looks top class on some short clips I've seen of him. Their CB Bellis scored a hattrick and U14s striker Ohio who was poached from us came in as a sub and scored 2.

On another note United U14s beat Liverpool 2-0 in the semi final second leg of the Floodlit Cup to reach the final. Don't know why they let the lads played 3 times in one week though (Liverpool away, City home, Liverpool home).

Think you're right. Certain clubs seemed to be a bit over-represented but probably the bigger reason was that fewer substitutes were permitted, less teams in tournament qualifying groups and fewer tryout friendlies were arranged.

What a shame that City still seem to be able to pinch our, on the face of it, talented youngsters if Ohio's 2 goals are anything to go by.

I wonder whether the score line is an indication of us deliberately keeping our best players out of the fixture and effectively write the game off. At least that way, we make City work if they want to scout our kids.

I also wonder whether we are going to bite back at some stage with City and start fighting fire with fire (to mix my metaphors). It would be good to show we aren't going to be pushed around and we might be able to stock up with a bit of extra talent too....I can't believe City are more impressive than us other than the education angle.

State of the art everything, more coaches, a brand new stadium, and probably larger incentives for parents (behind the scenes). On top of the education you mentioned.

But we've reacted and should see results over the next 3 years or so.

As far as I know they haven't signed anyone from us since we did the academy review and put more money into the younger age groups. We played a pretty strong team and the only players missing were those who were injured and the some u14s who often play for the u15s but were held back for last nights u14 blades cup semi final against Liverpool. We've already struck back to a degree and took a couple of players from City during the summer.

That's pretty heartening to read tbh...any idea the players and circumstances around the lads we've taken off them? In any case, long may that continue....

U16s beat Preston 4-2 in a friendly after being 1-2 down in the 1st half. Goals from Baars (debut), McGhee x 2 and Garner.

From what I've heard over the last few years they have clearly violated that 299.1 rule several times. Whether there's evidence to prove them guilty is a different matter. Should make them to be less aggressive for a while though regardless of the outcome.

At least this gets publicity, which is good as some parents might think twice. Then again, not a lot of parents care as long as they're kids get promised "a great future at a premium academy that produces loads of England youth players". Guess this pisses off more rival clubs than parents.

City insist that they always act in compliance with Premier League regulations and claim that the complaints stem from envy at the quality of coaching provided at their world-renowned City Football Academy.

The club also claim to be inundated with phone calls from parents wanting to transfer their boys to City, the dominant club in terms of youth development in Manchester.

Last week they inflicted a 9-0 defeat on United at under-15 level
.

Have got to admire City's PR department, even when they're facing a probe into their activities, they manage to shape an investigative article into an advert for their academy. This just stinks of a sense of entitlement and smugness from them. What they've been doing and what they continue to do, is hardly a secret, but don't expect much to come from this. Especially with stuff like this being written, to keep City on side for articles down the line.

Manchester United are still in the Europa League and Jose Mourinho has added three academy players to their squad list.

Manchester United have added Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Dean Henderson and Kieran O'Hara to their Europa League squad list.

Borthwick-Jackson, 19, is on a season-long loan at Wolves, Henderson, also 19, is at League Two Grimsby on loan until January and 20-year-old Reserves goalkeeper O'Hara trained with United's senior goalkeepers on Wednesday ahead of the Feyenoord tie.

United were able to include the trio since they are registered as 'B list' players, which means they were born after January 1 1995 and were eligible to play for United 'for any uninterrupted period of two years' after they turned 15.

Legia Cup (players born in 2006 or later if I understood correctly), an indoor (or not really, a hall?) tournament in Warsaw:

United 5-1 FC Midtjylland
Anderlecht 4-0 United
United 2-0 Juventus

Matches against Team Europa and Hertha Berlin still to be played this afternoon. Four top teams from each group (Group A; Ajax, Benfica, Sparta Prague, Sydney Olympic, Red Bull Salzburg, Legia) go through to QFs, all cup games tomorrow. United won the tournament last year.

6-1 defeat against Benfica in the last Legia Cup match, United finished in 6th place (12 teams). 5 wins, 3 defeats.

Red Bull Salzburg leading Juve 2-0 in the bronze match, Ajax vs Anderlecht in the final.

Decent tournament considering that 2 of our 3 losses are to the finalists
