Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

No.They signed an U15 (from Fulham I believe) but he's not there.Doesn't look good for those U16s that are not in the squad, except for those injured (I don't know who).

Is the Fulham guy supposed to be highly rated then? Also, it'll be interesting to see if any of the older group of these players can step up for a couple of games in the u18s. (Levitt/Laird) possibly.

Former United trialist Brandon Baiye, played twice for Belgium u17's against England the other day.

Both good players I take it? Although @jb8521 was telling me about a player who we poached from City and recent scored 5 and assisted 3 in a 10-0 win!

Both good players but had different issues.11 left for Liverpool after his teammates refused to pass to him in a match (Martey Blair the U18s player who Liverpool signed recently is his brother).9 had a perennial back problem that might see him out of the game when he's older.City gave his family a very good deal financially though. He's originally from Ajax.

The player you talk about scored a lot for our U14s and U15s recently.Same age group and same position with the number 9 so seems like we got the better one at the end of the day.

That would be overkill. Gomes, Chong, and Kirby? lol

Why not? Kirby can play cm/am, from what I've seen. I expect Whelan and Hamilton to be called up a lot for u23's this season, even if loans aren't completed. Chong plays from the left, so he won't be in competition. Buffonge/Gribbin are other picks for the u23's, the same with Dearnley. It could work feasibly, he's not signed to anyone, highly rated, England international, but I understand what your point.

Had to google that Kirby kid and then realized i watched him for england....from few games that i watched him he looks like a technical b2b so dont understand why he wouldnt work with Chong(winger) and Gomes(number 10), specially as he already plays with Gomes for national team.

I was talking about how unfair it would be for other youth teams.

Oh fair enough, in that case then yeah, it would be very interesting indeed. This is all dependent on the club actually wanting him anyway. I wish we went for Oakley-Booth, who's arguably the best player they have.

City has Sancho,Foden,Poveda,Dele-Bashiru,Matty Smith and Bolton...

Don't think Kirby want to move to North West anyway given the clubs that he has been on trial.

I'm surprised we are not linked with more players like him. We need some injection of talent in our u23's.

Maybe because of the price tags involved and the difficulty of actually finding good enough players willing to only play u23's for a while.

Max Johnstone turned 18 a couple of weeks ago so will be an overage player if he's playing U18 football this season.

Him and Sam are the only brothers at United right now (at all level?).I don't think Savage's other son signed for us anyway, so should be.

yet to watch the video so dont know where to post this but reckon with this thread i cant miss...interview with @Mr. MUJAC

Got a parents meeting at the Academy next week, going to be introduced to Nick Cox and the new members of staff, they are then going to present their new vision of the Academy and all changes to be implemented.

Looking forward to what they have to say, for all those interested in our Academy, I will post any relevant information here.

One of the newbs just posted this in the academy thread.

He also said Zlatan's kids train in the academy.

How Manchester United beat competition to two of Europe hottest prospects

Manchester United went international to beef up their academy - and the Reds' summer recruitment proved the club's youth system still has worldwide appeal.

Nicky Butt's revamp of United's academy has helped them beat off a strong competition to get forward Tahith Chong from Feyenoord and Nishan Burkart from FC Zurich.

And United's back-catalogue of successes was still the ace up their sleeve.

The 16-year-olds are now forming part of a new-look United academy squad.

And Butt, himself a product of the Reds youth system as a member of the Class of '92, believes the pair have added strength to a burgeoning new group of youngsters.

“Bringing in Chong and Burkart was really the first time in a while that we have actually gone into Europe and bought players,” Nicky told M.E.N. Sport.

“Pretty much every club in this country was after those two boys.

“Tahith has everything you expect of a young player to became top level and so does Nishan.

“Both Nishan's parents are ex-Olympians so he has that in his blood. Tahith is 6ft one already, broad shoulders, a little waist. The pair of them are well built, perfect sizes, athletes.

“We have a good starting point with these two boys. They have good ability and really good self belief, which you have to have at this club.

“We are starting them at a higher level (than normal 16-year-old newcomers) to get them to the highest level rather than starting from a lower rung.

“We have to bed them into the club, into life around Manchester and knowing the club and building their bodies up so the step to Under-23s won't be massive for them.

“We then need to make sure the step from the 23s to the first team isn't massive as well. We are really positive about them two.

“But there are a load more we are excited about. It is a really positive group.”

Butt was able to beat off the challenge from suitors around Europe for Chong and Burkhart because of United's long established reputation for providing careers for players.

“I showed their families round last year and told the about the club and the reaction was pretty much very positive straight away. They didn't want to go anywhere else. It was nice and refreshing,” added Butt.

“Clubs can say anything they like to kids, they can sell it, we can sell it, but ultimately the facts are we give lads a pathway to a career here or elsewhere. Nobody can deny that. Nobody can say that is not true and we are spinning a yarn there and that doesn't happen.

“The stats are there. No other club in the country, or Europe, provides so many professional footballers to lower leagues.

“Last season I think 58 of our ex-academy players were playing in the championship and lower down. Not only that we also get our players through to the first team like Marcus Rashford.”
