Read stat that Boonen either scored or assisted in 14 out of 20 games, so that's 15 games in 21 he either assisted or scored. If that's record is correct then that's just superb at any level.

Yeah he has 10 goals and 7 assists in 15 starts and 6 sub games

He didn't really impress me that much at the Otten Cup but he was played as a striker there but he's been very good on the wings recently.

Weren't we trying to bring Boonen's brother here as well? Or is that some other player i'm thinking of?

It was mentioned in this section that we were at one point. He ended up somewhere else. I believe he's a goalkeeper?

That 5-3 scoreline really flattened West Brom.Could easily be something like 7-1 on another day.Buffonge was very impressive in the number 8 role. That front 6 of Whelan,Buffonge,Gomes,Chong,Boonen,Burkhart moved the ball very quickly and technical superior to their opponents and have good understanding as well especially in the first half.

Aside from the usual suspects I thought Kenyon had another good game and Barrett looks comfortable but not sure about his defensive game.Tanner was beaten on the right wing on some occasions.

I'm starting to like this team. I don't mind conceding 3 if we score 5. I'll take that any day. Like the way Chong plays. He really commits and I like that. Boonen is technically excellent too.

We've got a tough test this weekend against City and their "golden generation", so don't think it'll be a good idea to be conceding 3.

United are now above City in the table in second having scored the most goals in the league so far with 16. The worrying thing is that we have conceded the third highest amount of goals in the league with 11.

The strengths and weaknesses are apparent.

Not having a settled back line hasn't helped, think we've fielded different defences for each game we've played. We actually have good defenders in the team, but just no consistency in terms of partnerships. It's either injury or internationals.

Man Utd are building up their global recruitment network - but still have eyes on the local patch says academy chief Nicky Butt.

  • Man Utd are building up their global recruitment network - but still have eyes on the local patch says academy chief Nicky Butt.
Marcus Rashford was the only Mancunian on duty in the Manchester derby for United - but Reds academy head Nicky Butt insists the Wythenshawe-born striker is not one of a dying breed at Old Trafford.

Gorton-born Butt was a regular in derbies during his Manchester United career, along with Salford's Paul Scholes and Greater Manchester's Bury born Gary and Phil Neville.

Longsight's Wes Brown also added to the local contingent that regularly lined up against the Blues during Sir Alex Ferguson's glorious reign.

But Rashford was the odd man out on Saturday.

And this summer in their revamp of the academy, the Reds have also gone out and bought new teenage recruits Tahith Chong from Feyenoord and Nishan Burkart from FC Zurich to improve the youth squad.

The Reds have massively increased their worldwide scouting network. However, Butt says that local home-produced talent will still be sourced.

“No chance are we going away from trying to recruit locally as well," Butt told M.E.N Sport.

“You just never know because each season brings up different possibilities.

“This year for instance in our Under-12s, you'd normally take 14 players but it was such a good year we have brought in 22. That has never been done before. We had to bring in another staff member to deal with that year.

“One year you might get eight great players in from Europe that you have to bring in otherwise you might lose a superstar to somebody else.

“My ideal squad would be eight to 10 local lads, three to four UK based lads and two or three European lads. That would be the ideal. That would be the template to work from.

“It doesn't always happen like that. But we are definitely not going away from the local boys.”

Butt was central to the Class of 92 and thinks that golden era could be repeated.

“The Class of 92 can be done again," he added. "Ability wise it definitely can be done again because some of these boys are better than I was when I was 16. They have so much more ability.

“The talent is there so it can be done again. There is no reason why it cannot. I would be really proud if it does. I'd love it to happen again.

“It is a bit like the treble season it can be done again but everything has to be right, the timing, the players, the manager.

“It is our job and the club's job to make to happen and do it again. I was always confident the club could it again. I wouldn't have taken the job otherwise.”

Indy Boonen and Marcus Rashford were good friends in the U18s

With Indy Boonen, we have a very good talent in Manchester United's academy. He works patiently to work his way to the first team and also looks at his buddy during that... Marcus Rashford

Rashford is since his debut under Louis van Gaal the face of young talent in English football. Because he as well was still in Indy Boonen's team at the start of last season, things can change quickly at United.

"Nobody tells you when you're close to the first team" said Boonen in a conversation with Voetbalkrant.com "They didn't tell Marcus either that he was close to a spot in the first team until it happened".

The young Belgian all of the sudden saw his teammate on frontpages. "He's a real great player and I had a very good bond with him. We could find eachother without looking before and in games" Boonen of course hopes for the same path.

"Rashford skipped the U21s and went straight to the first team. It's an example for every academy player at United. When he was on the ball, you immediatly saw that he had something special in him", Boonen said. Hopefully they'll once again play together in the future.

Going forward, this is as impressive as I have seen from any United-side at this Level - but in terms of defending, it's not good enough.

15 goals in 3 matches is fantastic - but 11 against in 5 games is not good enough.
