Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Sounds a good idea.

No doubt lower league fans will be complaining again that its a stepping stone to getting PL2 sides into the pyramid system - just like they do with the current EFL Trophy format.

But, like that, it seems a good idea that should be a mutually beneficial tournament.

It’s a good idea for sure, but mainly from the PL clubs’ point of view. Now whether the National League sides will actually field their best players… just like in the EFL Trophy. There’s not much to gain for them.

I'd imagine this one would have more U18s involved than the EFL Trophy side though. With the UEFA Youth Cup, EFL Trophy and the PL2 alongside it's associated competitions, the fixture schedule is getting a bit tight.

£1m prize money is probably the main incentive to get teams fielding stronger sides.

That sum will be distributed among the NL sides, not sure if all but still several clubs. Not sure what promotion to the EFL is worth but if it’s one competition they have to choose to focus on I’m sure it will be the league for most clubs.

Another interesting aspect is broadcasting. It’ll probably be the same £10/match fans have to pay for these.

I guess the prize money helps, but non league sides must be fed up with cup matches. My local 8th tier side are about to play their 10th game of the season at the weekend and it will be their 7th in the various cup competitions.

Shall we guess MUTV wont broadcast it live even if they have rights ? :)

Will be United connections in all those games. Max Haygarth plays for Alty, Otis Khan for Oldham, Charlie McCann at Forest Green & Aidan Barlow for Rochdale.

AZ is a very tough draw for the second round.
Of course this is a new generation but they have won this competition in the 2022-2023 season and are the current champions in the Netherlands.

We will play against Zalgiris Vilnius.

Kinda liking our schedule this season. Between the UEFA Youth League, National League Cup and the PL International Cup (plus the U17s PL Cup) we have quite a thick schedule with various kind of opponents and experience which benefits us having quite large squad and quantity of talents that we need to manage their developments.

For example beside starting Scanlon and Fritzegald we also gave minutes to T.Fletcher, Baumann and Biancheri who started the U18s season well on Tuesday, and managed to challenge them to a much tougher abroad opposition after a huge win at U18s level last week. Also managed to give minutes to Missin and Moorhouse who just came back from injuries, despite the number of options we have in their positions. With a loose schedule it will be hard to handle development of everyone, especially if we look at the U18s we have many of the first years, even Ibragimov, hasn't started a single game in the league.

The National League Cup would also give chances to the National League teams to have a closer look at our lads and considering the nature of youth loans to that level (can happen at any time and players can still train with us and play U21s games) I would imagine there would be more National League loans happen during the season.

Nick Cox’s new column here. As expected, that is probably the only announcement we’ll see from the club regarding Obi-Martin. And it’s absolutely the right decision, no reason to add any more hype.

Yeah there’s no reason to give Obi-Martin more spotlight than Lusale or Overy. Until you see them play you don’t even know who has a better chance here.

If it’s the same Tom Curtis we’re talking about he’s been in different England youth roles at the FA for almost a decade.

I see that the official website has added Kone to the youth team page but not the other youngsters that we have added to the u18 side.
Anyone know why...are they too young?

They're on there now, which in fairness is remarkably fast by usual United website standards. Still pathetically inadequate profiles though.

Luca Scanlon apparently scored an absolute peach of a free-kick yesterday

Doncaster beat Barnsley in the EFL Cup so we’ll need at least a draw against Huddersfield to advance in the competition.

MUTV don't need excuses to not show them live unfortunately

You'd understand MUTV if the academy, etc., was hopeless, but we win things and play fantastic stuff. We can still give the fans hope?
