Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

It's an odd coincidence at least but doesn't really tie in with Gribbin training with the first-team, Williams being supposedly given the U18 captaincy etc.

Lot of fair points in Mitten's article but it's pretty sensationalist and melodramatic as well. City's 'superior facilities' get talked about a lot but I'd be intrigued to know just how superior they actually are other than being shiny and new, as there never seems to be any detail given when this is brought up (apart from their academy stadium, which is great and definitely something we should have in place, but hardly a 'development' facility). The point on coaching seems to be off the mark from what others have said too.

Definitely some changes to be made but not sure it's the crisis it's being made out to be (or even close to one).

Aye and its just the same article that has been rehashed every month over the past year. Constantly banging on about there world class facilities as if Carrington is just the local park. The only specifics he gives too is that they have floodlights and the pitches are closed off. You know because floodlights are the real key element to youth development.

I think Mitten is just trying to get more reads on that article by winding up fans a bit against the club management.. It's an easy bait to blame the glazers, and which most fans would conclude as the cause of the what he claims is wrong with the academy.

Plus he hasn't had any sort of itk or inside info for a while either. I think he's just trying get attention

If I have to say I'd think it's his effort to force the club to keep him on the loop again. It's obvious that the club is gonna make some changes and when that happened the fans will think that the club was "enlighten" by his article, while in fact it has been discussed among the people inside the club and the parents etc for a while.

There seems to be a lot of agenda behind what we hear in the media about the youth, some came from the entourage of the youngster himself in order to pressure the club on giving them better deal.Have to say I don't like it at all.

Interesting that Ollie McBurnie who played for us in the Milk Cup 2013 has just signed for Swansea.

United U18s beat Burnley 3-1 in their first pre-season game.Ex-youngster Dwight McNeil on Burnley's bench.

Barnsley's 18 years old defender Mason Holgate is on trial at United according to The Sun.Made 20 appearances last season at his club.Wouldn't be surprised if Pearson was the one introduced him.

How is Pearson coming along? I thought he might have got a look in for the pre-season tour.

Played well for the U21s two days ago on their first pre-season game.No idea what will be the plan for him.
He was one of the youngsters who was tipped to actually have a fair shout at making it here. Do you think LvG does not rate him enough or we are trying to loan him out again to a championship team to help him progress?

Can't 100% confirm but I believe Paul Digby of Barnsley is also on a two week trial with Holgate.

Thought he was surprisingly below par in that game personally (and you won't find many bigger supporters of him than me).

Surprise about this.Digby is of the same age but doesn't look better than any of Pearson,Rothwell and Harrop (and Goss for that matter).Holgate looks promising from the little I've seen of him (some PL clubs were interested including Arsenal) and seems to have the same development curve as John Stones.

You're probably right I just went by what was reported on Twitter.
