Lyon floundered precisely because of their disastrous transfer policy over the past 6 years. They replaced their fabulous players of circa 2004 (Malouda, Essien, Abidal, Juninho) with worse and worse players each time, making a profit off the pitch but not on it.
Then it all went tits up when they bought Gourcuff at a silly price in the dying hours of last year's summer transfer window, a perfectly unnecessary purchase of a player that had been god awful for the best part of a year (now make it 2 years)
Selling Pjanic now is daft as well, his value can only go up (still only 21 years old with bags of experience already)
