I don’t think there’s a manager on this planet that will get that squad to finish higher than three clubs from City, Chelsea, Liverpool and United. 5th is a reasonable target though. Which Arteta won’t achieve.

Arsenal should get Southampton's Klopp Clone in then they have tried the best of the worlds knock offs managers.
I think Potter would do a much better job, both on the pitch and off it regarding laying down a actual plan.
Auba would start for City. That's only because they have no strikers (bar Jesus, who's better on the pitch the further away be is from goal).

I mean, that's a pretty low bar, starting because there's no other option in your position. He was also immensely poor last season by the standards we used to seeing from him, it will be interesting to see how he kicks on this season or if he's just done. A fully fit Arsenal are decent but I don't think anyone's worried about playing them anymore. Will be interesting to see if they buy anyone else during the rest of the window, maybe yesterday's game forces someone's hand.

Who does he start for? He's a good player but from watching him at the Euro's, he's not good enough to be starting for England when you look at the options available.
Auba or Werner, who'd you pick? They play in a similar area of the pitch. Despite Werner's troubles, and I never thought I'd say this, Auba has arguably been worse in the last 12 months.
Good managers always make squads look better than they are. I could see, for example, Rodgers getting a hell of lot more out of Arsenal’s squad than Arteta is. The likes of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Partey are really highly ranked players. Bigger stars than arguably anyone in Leicester’s squad. Or look at how well Xhaka played in the Euros! Throw in youngsters like Tierney and Saka, who are amongst the very best in the league for their age, and it’s pretty obvious that Arteta isn’t getting anywhere near the best out of this squad.
I get the feeling Tierney is overrated because there had to be a few standouts from Arsenal because they still have the fumes of a big club.

I think I'd be more harsh on Arteta if all of them started and they looked this hapless.
So far, I agree on the bolded. This season is make or break for Arteta... If they look this useless 10-15 games in, off he should go.
There are so many managers who would take that role. Are you saying someone like Hassenhuttl or Potter won't take that job ? Even Sam would be a better option , as things stand.
He resigned because he was getting forced to sell some of his best players, and would get little budget to replace them.
Remember, Arsenal will spend over £100M this summer. Its might not be as much as Chelsea or Man City, but let's not pretend we haven't spent money, because that's letting them off

You just think that because James is playing for 2nd place United and Pepe is playing with the clowns of Arsenal.
Arsenal need to spend about £500m though just to be anywhere near the likes of Chelsea or City, probably more when you look at how badly Arsenal are spending that £100m a season.
Money spent doesn’t mean anything anymore when decent players cost over £50m anyway. Soon we’ll be saying “this manager has spent £1b”. The reality is that’s the prices these days, it shouldn’t create the expectation.
And Schniderlin was great at Southampton and Depay was great in Holland. Tierney would have got into the United team before Shaw found some serious form
Realistically, are those managers going to improve Arsenal on what they currently are? Will they make them competitive? I’m not saying they won’t be able to get a decent manager, I’m saying no world class manager is going to take the job and risk their reputation. Any manager coming in will need some serious time to fix things also.

Well the sad fact is Pepe has scored 10 goals in a PL season. James has never managed more than 3. And this is while playing at a far worse team.
How James remains at United and is actually starting today I do not know.
You are right both have been terrible in the PL but James is just totally shocking.
Any half decent manager will do a better job than this clown. The amount of excuses he gets is baffling. Arsenal are not even my club but it is amusing how he is still at the job. Benitez would have done twice the job he is doing. Even one could take a punt at someone like Eddie Howe. Nuno won't have been a bad shout either (don't rate him but still far better than arteta).
To act as if no manager can do better than arteta is incorrect.
To be honest, I'd take someone like Potter at this point, but how many clubs can Conte realistically go to that would give him a bigger budget than Arsenal? He's not getting the Liverpool or City jobs any time soon, he's done Chelsea. He's done Juve & Inter over in Italy, & the big 2 in Spain are at their lowest eb they've been in years. There's not a massive amount of clubs for him to go to.
He could just wait another year and end up at a team like Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, PSG. They’re all sack happy and want to win trophies today, and all have more chance of winning league titles that Arsenal.

You're absolutely right. Even Fergie wouldn't turn that mob into contenders, but I think there are two parallel truths: Arteta is way out of his depth and the squad is shit. Arsenal are going to have give Arteta the bullet and then find a manager like Bielsa or someone working wonders in a lower league.
