Michail Antonio | Involved in a road traffic accident

Glad he’s conscious.

Find it a stark reminder of the times we live in that people come across an incident like this and take photos to share it.

Was the same up in Edinburgh for a man who died horrifically in the busiest part of the city the other week there. People gagging to share for internet clout.

Has that not always happened? People slowing down to car accidents and pictures of the wreckages always end up in papers even before the Internet became a major thing.

Just glad Antonio is stable and concious as from the first statement I really was fearing the worst was imminent.

He's a great example to any young pro of how hard work and graft can keep you at the top level of Football for most of your career.

This summer in Sweden, a kid drowned in a pool and paramedics were delayed getting to the scene because they had to fight their way through people surrounding him, recording him dying.

The sheer number of absolute psychos in the world is scary.

You’re probably right. But it still depresses me. You know they’re not taking photos with his concern at the forefront of their minds.

Feck me that’s grim.

Oh stuff like that is horrible, all to boost social media profiles and tiktok engagement.

I agree people should be prosecuted for that sort of thing as it's breaching privacy etiquettes for a start.

Should go to jail tbh

Looks horrific but cars are designed to crumple these days so hopefully the frame held and protected him as it's designed to do

Crumple during collissions is one thing, but a large part of that side is completely gone. Def a heavy impact with a tree

Crash looked awful. Glad that he's in a stable condition and hoping that it doesn't end his career.

@R_Cubed have you got any updates on this from your Jamaican delegation contacts?

Was only listening to him on the Rest is football podcast the other week, opening up to tough times in football.
Not to realise an even tougher one was right round the corner.

Hope he's much better than that car picture might suggest.

Slowing down cars to accident yes but taking pictures no , not because they were better or anything like that its just that didn't used to have their camera phones but even that seems long time ago .

We still got pictures on the papers. Warhol made an entire art piece series on it, in the 60s

Oh I am not saying they didn't have pictures just that not many had means to take pictures and share it like nowadays , so it moot making comparisons .

Good news that he's conscious and stable. Always thought he was a decent player too.

Obviously I'm wishing him well.
But his contract is up at the end of the season, the cynic in me says that West Ham let him go a la Richard Gough/Derby
Hoping he recovers enough to play again at some level

Those injuries sound bad. Probably means it'll take two months rather than the usual one for him to regain his place from whatever big money signing they've brought in who turned out to be shit.

He has been there 9 years already so will get a testimonial regardless.

From the sounds of things from itk he has both legs fractured. July was the earliest from the sounds of things and at his age you'd have to be doubtful he will come back at this level.

He has definately been lucky though, was fearing the worst for a short while.

At 34 with a leg fracture you have to think he’s done? His legs were my first thought on seeing the brutal pic of his car yesterday (after finding out he was still alive obvs) but you’d have to think there is a very real possibility his career is now over.

No life threatening injuries and no other cars/passengers apparently involved is about as good an outcome as you could have asked for given the state of the car after that smash.

That could be it for his career, but playing at a good level until 34 for a player heavily reliant on physicality is a very good run anyway. In that case, hopefully West Ham look after him with a coaching gig or something if that's what he wants to do.

Jamaica have a very good chance to qualify for the World Cup in 2026 so I figure he'll try to return at MLS level or something just for that chance to play at the World Cup.

A West Ham supporting mate of mine says Antonio has an interesting life story.

He was constantly in trouble with the Police when he grew up in south London. Muggings, theft, shoplifting etc. His ability to play football was one of his few redeeming features and he played his way through various amateur leagues before being spotted and signed by West Hams youth academy.

After establishing himself he now spends much of his free time helping disadvantaged youngsters in the London area. Speaking to youth groups in an attempt to show young lads that there is a better alternative to a life of crime.

Michail Antonio is clearly one of lifes good guys who deserves to fully recover from this dreadful accident. I wish him well.

He's lucky he's alive. If that picture is of his car he's also lucky he didn't kill anyone else.

He wasn't signed by the WHU academy he was signed as a first-team player from Forest when he was in his early/mid 20's.

I don't understand all the sympathy. You don't wreck your car or yourself like that by driving the speed limit. feck him and glad nobody else was caught up in it.

My thoughts exactly, the moron was obviously driving way too fast and lost control. If that's how his career ends then it's deserved.

Nobody to blame but himself.
