It would be amusing for the reaction from Arsenal fans but Im not sure how many of them will actually really be bothered he is gone.

It does seem to be an odd move from us, almost as if we are trying to get away with something or because we know something others dont.

Better than Mkhi and Mata. Will be motivated under Jose. Will piss off the Arsenal fans. Signing on a free.

So many positives, why turn him down.

He was great under Mourinho at Real, so that's one positive. Also he has made comments along the lines that Mourinho demanding of him to be more tough really helped his mentality while he was at Real.

On the other hand if we were to get him, I'd guess that means we won't be getting Griezmann. Not that they can't hypothetically play in the same team, but we just don't have much space in our squad at the moment.

Unless someone leaves.

No thanks.

If Jose wants a lazy bastard that doesn't track back but has rare moments of brilliance, I'll do it for a grand a week.

On his day, fully motivated, Ozil would be a beast of a player. He has a ridiculous level of talent. I'd love to see how Jose would use him and I'm certain that he'd look a very different prospect under Mourinho.

Would rather break the bank for Eriksen

I would take him on a free if we could get him at a reasonable wage for 2-3 year deal. I think he offers an upgrade over Mata and could have a new lease on life with a change in clubs. If you look at his national team form in 3 games this year (2 starts, 1 sub appearance) he has 1 goal and 2 assists. I think the Mourinho counter attacking system could bring the best out of him. Its a low risk deal that has tremendous upside if he returns to top form.

Hello, my Mesut Oil how may I assist you today?

Can you imagine if it leaks in January? Oh Lord arsenal fan tv going to be good. Perfect #10 to put around Lukaku, Martial, Rashford. Those lob crosses to Fellani going to be unfair. Long Ball City

Well, tbh I'm starting to believe the reports a bit. It looks perfectly logical that he'll move to us and Sanchez will move to City if they both want to stay in EPL.

I'm not a big fan, though. His mentality has been terrible and he goes invisible a lot in big games. He has been on fire with Arsenal about 2 years ago but now each time I see him playing he looks like a passenger.

However, if Jose wants him he sure has a certain view of his problems with Arsenal these times. If Jose can make him more mentally tough he'll be a good signing on free. I don't have very much big expectations, though.

Mourinho bought him at Real Madrid so there's obviously aspects he likes about him, but he's regressed since those days.

Read this thread earlier, and some joker reckoned we were bringing in Sanchez, Ozil and Griezmann!

Stick to the champ man mate!

He wouldn't be able to officially sign for an English club in Jan, so it'd still be "Handshakes" and rumour.

Not at all sure he'd suit us now. And would surely put any Griezmann deal off the table.

Would really prefer a player with some pace.

And I don't like how Ozil seems to go MIA so often, especially when the going gets tough.

He previously played for Mourinho and was incredible under him.
Didn't Mourinho bollock him on a regular basis then sell him when he was at Madrid? A quote from Özil's biography:

"You think two beautiful passes are enough ... You think you're so good that fifty percent is enough. You think you are too nice to tackle."

Mourinho then added: "Do you know what your tackling looks like? No? I'll show you."

And then, Ozil writes, Mourinho tiptoed in front of Ozil with his hands close to his side with pursed lips and proceeded to hop all over the changing room.

Ozil, who played under Mourinho at Madrid from 2010 and 2013, compares the tense encounter to "two boxers at the stare-down before the first round."

He added: "He shows no emotion. Just waits for a response from me. How much I hate him right now. And I love Mourinho actually."

Finally a furious Ozil threw his shirt at Mourinho and challenged him to go out and play himself.

Mourinho is then said to have taunted him by saying: "Oh, are you giving up now? You're such a coward. What do you want? To creep under the beautiful, warm shower? Shampoo your hair? To be alone? Or do you want to prove to your fellow players, the fans out there, and me, what you can do."

A refreshed Ozil wanting to work with Mourinho would get the absolute best out of Martial, Lukaku, Rashford and Pogba. Mou is far better man manager than Wenger is, I think Ozil would get back to the best CAM's if he joined under Mou. Please yes.

Ozil will add no value to the team. He will be Rooney 2.0 where he just gets a paycheck. What he did to Arsenal and Wenger goes to show he does not have the courage to turn around a team. Mhki, Pogba, and Zlatan took a huge chance on MU. No guarantee of CL football, but they came into a mismanged team and are now reaping their reward. What did Ozil do? At first signs of turmoil at Arsenal, he just runs away and throws a tantrum? Arsenal had a good team too. He should hunker down win Europa and prove he is worth the money. Otherwise he is s coward in my book and I would question MU leadership if they rewarded Ozil for failure.

That's the key word here. Mourinho was taunting him to make him go and give 200% of his abilities on the pitch. "Tough love" is a common Mourinho's way of motivating his players.

Also Mourinho wasn't the one who sold him as I remember. Ozil left after Jose had already left.

Just a note, I feel the same about Sanchez. I don't think it shows character when star players like Ozil and Sanchez walk away from a losing team. It just doesn't send the right message, but in case of Sanchez his stats for the position he plays is really good and it is harder to fault him. Also, you never read about Sanchez's laziness, but I think if they leave Arsenal it is going to question their "game winning" mentality as they lack it. It seems to me right when Arsenal fans need them the most they are jumping ship prematurely.

I think that's fair if a players walks out of a club like United when they hit a bad spell, or say Chelsea during that dodgy year they had or Bayern at the moment.

But Arsenal have been making the same mistakes and losing the exact same matches for more than a decade now. They're a big club with a bigger losing mentality and I wouldn't blame a single player who wanted to leave their to meet their ambitions elsewhere.

Well, let's be honest they're not supposed to remain in a toxic hopeless environment just to prove they have winning mentality. Players at the end care about their career first after all.

Sanchez has lost the best years of his career in Arsenal.

The difference between Sanchez and Ozil is that while Sanchez may be perpetually pissed off he still works his socks off for the team, Ozil gave up ages ago and often just strolls around if the game isn't going Arsenal's way.

A lot of posters here who are saying "hell no" "overrated" "lazy" were saying the same thing in the Matic thread. Wonder how they feel about that one now? People have short memories around here. Wenger is not getting the best out of him. On a free, this is a no brainer of a transfer. Would do very well here.
Edit: A poster above me mentioned Matic. He knows well.

Still a great player, he's just been stagnating at Arsenal.

And he was brilliant under Mourinho at Real. Would take him in a heart-beat.

This will be Matic mk2.

Everyone will complain about it, he'll come and get a boat load of assists hitting through balls to Lukaku, Martial and Rashford.

Also is I don't think getting Ozil will hinder us from getting Griezmann, as another poster has said early. He'll be on free and I was expecting Griezmann to take Mata position on the right from the start anyway.

Lukaku
Rashford/Martial - Ozil - Griezmann
Matic - Pogba

If ( and that's a big "if" ) Ozil could catch his form again here, and proved his mentality, this formation will be awesome in its fluidity.
