Been numerous posts about how Guardiola didn't get the best out of him before due to playing him on the right and wouldn't do so again and that Wenger did get the best out of him by playing him on the left.

Sanchez played excellently on the right for Arsenal. I think there’s even an interview with Wenger where he says Sanchez is just as good across the final third. IMO we won’t have problems fitting him into starting 11.

That's an interesting point about if we are switching to a 4-3-3 then we won't need a #10. But then Sanchez would be on the right where he'd be out of position, or replacing Martial --think that would drive Martial to ask for a transfer imo. So it still wouldn't make much sense. Not as much as signing a Mahrez for the right wing. And if we were playing 4-2-3-1 then Ozil would make sense as the #10 albeit harsh on Messe.

When I first saw Sanchez he was playing as a RWF for Udinese and Chile, and he also played there for Barca, one of the problems though was that Pep was deploying him as a decoy for Messi, if you look at his performances they upped when Messi was out and he was just in there with Neymar. Ideally though I agree that we should be looking for a left footed attacker for the RWF role in a 4-3-3. One other aspect is that Sanchez can play as a striker and if Ibra is pretty much done here then that's another incentive to get Sanchez.

He won't play as a proper right winger, neither will someone like Bale. They will be given a free roaming attacker role to move around and create havoc. The width on the right will have to come from the RB or a central midfielder playing on the right in a 433.

If Sanchez comes, a top right back with good attacking instincts and crosses on him and a top class central midfielder will complete this team to challenge to bigger honors.

Totally agree.

I guess Sanchez could play instead of Lukaku in games where we need more his profile and trickery.

Still think we should do a double swoop for both Sanchez and Ozil. They're worth at least £70m each (probably more but age is a factor).

Sign both and focus on the CL.

--------Lukaku
Martial-Ozil-Sanchez
--Pogba----Matic

Still think Pogba being forced back into a midfield two is such a massive error and I hope Jose is smarter than that.

Play like this instead:
Martial---Lukaku---Sanchez
-----Pogba---Özil
---------Matic-----------

Matic with the 2 CB should be able to handle pretty much everything by themself. Just look at City who is using that exact system.

Wouldn't that midfield get overrun though?

In my opinion, Ozil would be just as valuable to us as Sanchez. I would imagine him being played in a similar way as Eriksen at Spurs, or even Mata in Man Utd. On the right as one of the attackers in a 433 or a 4231, but with a lot of freedom.

He would be the perfect link between midfield and attack, and a player we have missed for a while. He could make our attack tick on the last third, making us look fluid in attack. I dont have any numbers to support it, but I would guess he is among the three players in the PL with most passes in the oppositions third. Players like Sanchez and Lukaku needs a playmaker like him. A player like Pogba needs him.

In my opinion players like him are always underrated. The often get the blame when their team is struggling, even if the real problem is lack of movement from their teammates.

Wouldn't that midfield get overrun though?

Why would it? City play with Fernandinho which is arguably worse than Matic, Otamendi who is just as reckless as Rojo and Stones/Mangala who both is a disaster to happen. If you would notice during the game that the opposition is taking over the midfield then you would just drop back Pogba and go with a 4231 instead.

Think we'll sign him in the summer on a free.

Ozil needs us more than we need him - and by that I mean I don't see another big European team coming in for him.

So effectively, it's United or bust.

I really want this guy. If City dont budge on Sanchez then why dont we offer them a big chunk of cash and Miki? Prying one of them loose this Jan would be great.

If we sign both, only 1 of them can be registered for the CL. So it would be better to get Sanchez now since City are also hot in his heels, and Ozil in the summer for free.

Jose Mourinho on Mesut Ozil: “I miss him a lot. He’s my friend. He’s a Champion in life.”

hubba!!

edit: true quote, but seems not recent.

Double swoop in January while getting rid of Mkh?

That's an interesting rule. Literally only 1 additional player can be added after the group stage?

Not, you can add others but have to remove others from your squad?

That'd be quite an awkward one if we bought both in!

Robbie said today on AFTV that the latest rumours is that Ozil will sign a new contract. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking but hopefully we'll find out this month either way.

I think only one can be from a Europa league club. 3 total from random players. Something like that.

Ozil has always been bad anyways

Even if they are not in CL again (as expected)?!

This is how I’ve seen things going since we were first linked to him in the press, but at this stage he’d be an idiot to chain himself to them for what amounts to being the rest of his career, even if we aren’t actually interested in him.

Certainly seems strange that he would do so given that he wouldn't be short of a number of seemingly preferable offers. Maybe him and his family enjoy London life?

@elnorte
Robbie doesn't know a thing. Every so often he pulls out an ITK card and he looks like a pillock because of it.
I was talking to people close to the player x deal is the worst one he constantly uses.
You stand outside stadiums interviewing the mentally ill Robbie, behave.

Aye. In the same video he suggested martial can come to Arsenal this window.

I think they're going to give Ozil a rise & then say "See, we keep our best players...except that smelly Mr Sulky."

Fair play!

According to that bellend Miguel Delaney we’re in for both Sanchez and Özil.

It would be hilarious but no way both happen this window. The Arsenal board might be utterly incompetent when it comes to on-the-field matters but surely they have enough sense not invoke the full fury of the entire fan base even if it did mean losing out on a few million.

Yup. I think that's stemming from Arsene mentioning in his press conference that Ozil would stay if they agree on a salary. At least I remember reading that some place recently.

Didn't realise Arsene had said that in a press conference. Makes sense if so.
