Anyone think Ozil, Pogba, Matic could work as a midfield 3? Obviously on paper it doesn't look particularly balanced, but you would have said the same about City before the start of the season. If Mourinho can install in them a need for greater control over games, you'd back United to have more of the ball and see less coming at them the other way. Matic can do a similar job to Fernandinho, whilst Pogba should be able to do a bit more defensively than KdB (so long as he focuses and tracks runners), whilst United arguably have a better back 5 from a purely defensive standpoint.
That's a big if. City can get away with that kind of thing because they always have the ball and press systematically when they lose it. Feels everyone is overlooking just how bad Pogba is defensively. Needs a workhorse beside him just to avoid getting overrun against talented midfields. Ozil doubles down on this problem. Would be against this transfer if it wasn't for a free

I have yet to see a single source properly linking us to this guy, yet we're 69 pages deep. Add to that, Ozil has never shown any interest in our club (he's been transferred twice since he broke through and never seemed interested in us, only the club for which he eventually signed despite us being linked on both occasions).
Complete nothing story, this. He's more likely to go to someone like Juve on a free this summer.

This is barely a transfer thread, it's just most people moaning that he wouldn't be good enough.

There is no logic behind it being more likely he joins Juventus at all. I could argue that they’ve sign Can with a pre contract agreement, why haven’t they done it for Ozil? Or the fact that there are more links of Ozil to United than there is Ozil to Juve.

We were linked a lot but as soon as the window opened it went quiet. Just the one story the other day that we would spend £35m to get him this month.

If Sanchez does move to City and Ozil to United, who will be more of a Judas to Arsenal fans?
Ozil, because of United. Nobody cares about City, despite one player being totally committed on the pitch and the other being all Emo.

Jose looks every bit the TV detective, working his way along elegant corridors to the United boardroom. He knocks. A second tattoo. ‘Woody’, he whispers, gingerly turning the knob. ‘Ozil on a Fr...’

A strange scene unfolds before his eyes. The room is deserted. A TV is still on, a youthful Judge Judy. Cups of tea and coffee, poured, gone cold. A half-eaten sandwich. Where is everyone? (To be continued ...)

What do we know about this knee injury? Its the first ive heard of it.

Got a little bit excited seeing him not in the team!!

An Ozil & Sanchez double swoop would be magnificent

-------Lukaku
Martial-Ozil-Sanchez
---Pogba---Matic

That sort of feels like finding the two missing pieces to the puzzle.

+ Sanchez and Ozil would have the players surrounding them they'd always wished for

Ed should just throw some crazy money at Arsenal.

Pogba no longer should play in a 2 next to Matic. Think it's already been reported that Jose wants him on the left, like was against Everton and Derby.

Easy - Move Özil back there. He plays there for the national team.

Or do a

Matic
Özil-Pogba

It would be nice with some competition in the team too.

where/how can I subscribe to that?
Feck it's heating up seriously in here. They will be tracking planes and helicopters and all sorts if this Ozil move goes through. As to the novel, well... first you need to get promoted to full membership, and then we can jointly start it and involve everyone. Unless we think of a better idea first! :)

No chance he will stay.

I reckon Ozil wants to go but unlike Sanchez, doesn't seem to be in a rush to leave this month and will wait till the summer. Would love him here. The seethe on the Arsenal fans' faces seeing there two best players potentially in a Utd shirt will be unbearable for them to witness.

Yeah definitely looks like it might be the summer for Ozil. He'd be incredibly daft to sign a new deal, they are going nowhere at the moment. It's sad really, I really wish it was Arsenal we were chasing down and not City, nonsense club.

I don't understand why we are going for Sanchez over Ozil considering the needs of our team. And the difficulty getting Sanchez. Any ideas why?

Cuz we are probably looking at Ozil in summer on free. As opposed to Alexis we just got a chance perhaps and are trying to be opportunistic.

Could be a few reasons, I personally don't think either are exactly what we need but Sanchez is more versatile, more dynamic and more suited to 4-3-3 than Ozil is.

Because we need a player who can score twenty goals a season from a wide attacking position and already have two inconsistent but "creative" fairies that would love a consistent role in attacking midfielder.

Except neither are actually that creative. We also have two "goal scoring" wide attackers in Rashford and Martial by that reckoning too.

Don’t think Özil signs a new contract if Man Utd, Bayern or any other club who can offer big wages and in the Champions League.

Why would he?

He’ll leave on a free, which means he’ll get a huge bonus and Champions League football which he isn’t going to get at Arsenal. If he was going to sign a new contract he’d have already done so. He passed the rubicon.

Arsenal are fecked. How did they allow these contracts to run down. Their two best players by a long shot are both off on free transfers or for a minimal fee.

I don't see how they replace them either. Who of that calibre will sign for them? Top four also looks increasingly unlikely. For years touted as a great model to run a club on but actually they've just (slowly) gone to shit since leaving Highbury.

I'm sure if you're playing the stats game Mata is comparable with any creative attacking player over the last 3-4 seasons. In terms of the very short term Lingard seems to be putting numbers on the board that others would dream of. That's before even thinking about situations where we want to play Pogba as our most advanced midfielder or the off chance that Mkhitaryan has a brain transplant.

Those two wide attackers also at a push compete for the same left position, even if you don't believe they are centre forwards by trade (which at least Rashford certainly is).

Sanchez individually would be the greatest upgrade of our team of any single PL player purchase in my opinion.

Mata is definitely not comparable statistically. Ozil at Real Madrid was the best creator in world Football (better than bloody Messi at creating). At Arsenal he is slightly worse off statistically and is bettered by Fabregas (and KdB is probably up there).

If Sanchez comes then he will replace Mata in the 1st team; because they are both roaming forwards (despite popular opinion, Mata is not a playmaker, he lacks the physical and ball carrying requirements of a playmaker, and spends a lot of time making runs into the box instead of finding a pass).

I would like both Sanchez and Ozil to come to the club. Unless Lingard carries on this form till the end of the season, then I would want Lingard to be given the opportunity as a playmaker instead of Ozil.

Been happening for years. RvP, Nasri, etc. Selling Fabregas for peanuts with still a lot of time left on his contract. They're run by amateurs.

That's an interesting point about if we are switching to a 4-3-3 then we won't need a #10. But then Sanchez would be on the right where he'd be out of position, or replacing Martial --think that would drive Martial to ask for a transfer imo. So it still wouldn't make much sense. Not as much as signing a Mahrez for the right wing. And if we were playing 4-2-3-1 then Ozil would make sense as the #10 albeit harsh on Messe.

Sanchez wouldn’t be out of position on the right. He plays just as good on the right as he does on the left.

Been numerous posts about how Guardiola didn't get the best out of him before due to playing him on the right and wouldn't do so again and that Wenger did get the best out of him by playing him on the left.
