Mesut Özil

He has been very good in Germany's two games. Perhaps the player that has left the biggest impression on me in this tournament.

Sanchez for me. I can't wait to watch him again too see if he can repeat that kind of performance.

Now Scholesy is convinced, SAF should just go out and sign the bugger

Great players aren't defined by two passes, otherwise all players would considered great.

To be fair, it is Özil's clever and incisive use of the ball in the final third that currently elevates him above many players of that age, and even many who are a lot older, but a lot will depend on his development over the next few years.

I have never thought he was as good Ekeke kept saying, but today and in the last match has convicned me Ekeke is right.

Two passes to Podolski were amazing.

Did you only watch the highlights?

Yes, because you can pass a judgement on a player based on one game. :wenger:

I can't believe you are for real, you are surely a WUM trying to examine how far he can push other users?

Once or not you can tell he's a talent. MOTM in his first game and unfortanate given the donkey work after the disgraceful red card in the second.

Eye for a pass and fabulous tenchnique. Looks like he can beat a man too and his general awareness looks excellent.

Don't really see a problem with the hype in his case, he looks a player for sure.

I thought he had a decent game today, he created Germany's best two chances and when him and Muller went off the creative spark went with them.

Well you know, if he's amazing then technically I'm not right Scholesy.

Because I've never used that word. I do however, and have done for about a year or so, rate him as good if not better than the other players who get to play in the hole behind 2 strikers or 1 striker. And I think he has the potential to be one of the best players of his generation, certainly Germany's best player in the years to come.

My question to you is... You rate Blanco and Marin highly. What do you think of their touch in their recent performances? Because they've both struggled to control the ball at times they should have done better. And I thought that was supposed to be your thing.

See, it makes me wonder if you just watch each player 1 time and then decide whether they have a great touch. And then anything that happens after that doesnt matter.

Someone like Ozil might have had an off day in the one game in question so you peg him as not that good. Someone like Marin might have had a good day and then you continue to rate him really highly even if his performances dont continue to the same level or other players outshine him. Or he has a cameo appearance with some poor touch. Am I wrong? Because its not the first time you've shown inconsistancy in your views about technique/touch.

You can tell if a player has a good touch/balance within 10 minutes of watching them play.

Marin and Blanco's touch are excellent. Do you think Blanco would be still playing if it wasn't? He brings no physical quality.

I was unsure of Ozil because I didn't know if he had the brain. This is much harder to assess than technique/touch. In the last few games, and more today, I did see the brain of Ozil.

1. Ozil is a much better player than Marin.
2. Today, he didn't have a particularly good game.

Weird. Ozil's intelligence is one of the most obvious facets of his game.

And I know you think you know it all in 10 minutes, but my question was whether you take into account the other 80 minutes and the next 10 matches. Or was it all about that 10 minutes? Because that would be ridiculous. You could be watching a player playing his one bad match in a long run. Or equally you could be watching a player's best performance of a season, having been shite for the 30 games before it.

Marin's touch was poor today, let a couple of fairly easy to control balls get away from him. Blanco needs about 3 touches to control any ball. I've seen him play about 6 times recently, its not just a one off.

Marin's touch was fine today. Of course I take into account the other times I watch the player play. But this is not to judge touch or technique.

Not his best game, but still made 3 or 4 great passes to free Podolski in behind his defender. I think the only reason he was subbed off is because he was on a yellow before the match and if he got another he'd have missed the third game.

Same here.. Although he is right Germany failed to produce anything after he was subbed off..

Özil would do very well in a team with a strong forward and a good, solid midfield behind him. He would suit our team very well

Yes I know that but irrespective of that he was yet Germany's best player on the pitch..

Yeah I'm not denying that. They should've alter their tactics to accommodate him in the team, either behind Podolski or Cacau. They really needed a target man because they were getting up the pitch in position to cross the ball. The problem was that Özil was the one getting the ball up the flanks and was also supposed to be on the receiving end of those crosses. Löw probably thought that the midfielders were capable of putting the ball up the flanks so he took Özil off for a striker. At least thats my theory.

Yep I was of the opinion that they would take Muller off for Cacau/Gomez which they did but leave Ozil on and play him on the right.. He can put in a good shift on the wings as well and if they saw the need to bring Marin on take Podolski off and play Marin through the left..

But as we said earlier he was mostly taken off cause he is important to the German team and him picking up a yellow card would spell disaster for their game against Ghana next week.. No Klose is do-able but I doubt Germany can cope without Ozil for that one.. He is very central to their play..

Well thats stupid, sorry.

I've seen games where Rooney's touch was simply awful. Not because he's not talented, not because his touch is poor but because he was out of form. And thats the same with most players. When they are playing well and confidence is high these things come easier for them, and at other times its difficult.

Your weird system of judging players based on 10 minutes of football doesnt take into account the fact that any player can have a good game or a bad game and its pure luck whether or not you are witnessing each one.

the decision to sub him was incomprehensible
they took the two players that were creating things off for two strikers

he was brilliant from the point where I started watching

Its not incomprehensible at all though is it. Everyone was getting booked left right and centre and he was the one player who went into the game on a booking. He had plenty of time on the pitch and sure it would have been great for him to play the last 15-20 minutes, but its probably even more important for Germany that he's able to play in the 3rd match to try and qualify them for the next round.

He was brilliant yesterday. Two passes in particular to Podolski, behind the fullback that split the defence open was the highlight of his performance. Fantastic technique, vision and passing.

Oezil is now officialy outside our price range
