Mesut Özil

He had a great game yesterday, but the Aussie defence was piss. They made the entire German front line look world class.

I am quite excited at watching him play this entire tournament.

If we can blow 50 million pounds this summer on Ozil and Marin, I think we will be fine for the next 3-4 years. Just like how we bought Nani and Anderson 3 years ago that strengthened and blostered our squad well enough for a few years. Both Ozil and Marin will be taking up the midfield slots that Giggs and Scholesey will eventually relinquish in 2 years time.
£50m? lets try 50p, the Glazers can afford that. That is why we are being linked with Raul, Ballack and Cole. It aint the Busby babes anymore it is the Glazer pensioners

His age fits into Man Uniteds value policy. But unless SAF and Gill are looking in and are persuaded by Redcafes transfer forum. This will never happen.

He was brilliant against Australia, I'll be interested to see if can keep that level up throughout the tournament.

Ozil is going to be out of contract soon so I don't expect any teams to bid more than 15m for him.

I guess you arent familliar with Man City? De Jong was out of contract soon, but to make sure they got him they went and paid £17 million for him. I believe there was a similar situations with Johnson. They'd be happy to pay over £20 million for Ozil even if his contract expires next week.

Well let them have him then, we won't be going for a bidding war for anyone. 20m yes is an okay price but still his market value is already dropped due to his contract. If Mancity are going for Ozil they surely have to be get ridding a few CM's there... Viera Dejong Kompany Barry Ireland Michael Johnson etc...

Ozil isnt a CM. He's an attacking midfielder (in behind one or two strikers, in the hole) or a winger (left or right). They've let Petrov go so there's some space on the left wing. Robinho probably wont be back. Bellamy and Mancini are always fighting so he's probably gone or frozen out if they can get someone else.

£20 million would be value for money for a young, extremely talented player like Ozil regardless of how long is left on his contract. If the fee starts rising rapidly, fair enough. But I'd have taken him in a split of a second for that price before the world cup even started.

City arent going to sell a player to us. These silly rumours need to stop. Now its Robinho? Before that Joe Hart. Before that Stephen Ireland. And so on. We arent going to sell Vidic to them, they arent going to sell Robinho to us. The end.

Rumours today that City and Chelsea are battling out to sign him for 20 million.

Edit: just seen the above posts, silly me.

If he is available for that much money, i think we should at least show some interest to be honest.

Raphael Honigstein has been ranting and raving about this kid all year. We all saw what he did in the U21 tournament. So I can imagine our scouts will have been eyeing him up for a while. Looks every bit of a player worth splashing the Ronny cash on.

This was from back in November:

"eyeing him up for a while"? We tried to buy him two years ago but he turned us down! See the start of the thread.

Just did, thanks. He'd definitely be the one that got away if he signed for somebody else this summer. Everyone has their price, I can't imagine him having City high in his list of potential clubs. A lot of the other major players have already spent big.

Time for Gill to put his money where his mouth is. This kids age and ability will prove even a £30million transfer a bargain.

I hope we manage to get him, he's one of the most talented players I've seen, he can do wonders for us.
I knew you'd like his flashiness.
For 30m that is...
Love him or hate him he does have talent...

He's far too inconsistent and could you imagine if he decides to throw a strop like he did at City and wants a loan spell to Santos? He turns up when he feels like it, he's a liability. Don't want him anywhere near OT.

He won't go to City, it's as simple as that. He's a boyhood Barcelona fan and has a Turkish origin, he wants to do his relatives proud but City has no famous name at all.

Apart from that I have to agree. I'm sick of rubbish like 'no value in the market'. Mezut is brillant and value, he proves it in Bremen on a daily basis. Sign him up, there's not much more to say.

'No value in the market' is obviously a smokescreen for the Glazers fecking us and we're skint.

Ozil is fantastic though. But he's a Barca fan? That rules us out then.

Would there be any point in going for him if he's inevitably going to dream of Barca a few years down the line?

If they arent Barcelona fans, they are Real Madrid fans. Thats the reality of it. If they arent Spanish maybe you can convince them that their footballing home is not in Spain. If they are Spanish, you've not got a hope once they decide its time to go to Real or Barcelona.

Don't get the constant we are skint comments.

The footballing decisions aren't being made by the Glazers - those seem to rest on SAF. So if he is choosing to invest money in 5-6 youngsters instead of spending one lump sum on 1 player - that's on him, not the Glazers.

Obviously could got with the theory well we knew we'd sell Foster, Tosic etc to cover the purchase prices of the other youngsters to break about even but, still means SAF could have chosen to spend it all in one place.

I do fancy what little I've seen from Ozil and 20 mil for him doesn't sound like we are being gouged. Question is does he want to come to the PL?

I'm sure he'll be going to Barca if they can't get Fabregas.

I think thats becasue we would get gazumped by another club if we went for a big name.

Ozil was good today. Should never have been taken off and Germany have created little since then.

Not his best game, but still made 3 or 4 great passes to free Podolski in behind his defender. I think the only reason he was subbed off is because he was on a yellow before the match and if he got another he'd have missed the third game.
