We have tried to sign him before while he was at Schalke, we might well have tried this summer too.

According to reports we tried to sign him last January too.. However it would have made sense to agree a reasonable but pricey fee before the world cup but then again Werder ain't stupid.

I am not ridiculous. I understand the Ozil praise and he is a good player. I feel we could do better though.

Who is better?

None of the players who play his position, in the hole behind a striker, are better than him. He's more consistant and more of a threat in the final third and a more intelligent footballer than any of them. Experience is the one thing he's still working on in terms of champions league, international and so on. Everything else is there right now.

They don't need to. First, they actually don't want to sell, because they need Özil more than the money. Second, if they sell, it won't be befor the end of the upcoming season, unless there'll be a massive offer and Özil won't want to extend.

Well it would make sense for them to sell because if they don't he'll walk away for free next. I'm sure as much as they'd love to see him there another season they wont want to lose out on the fee he would bring from selling him.

Well, if he doesn't extend, they'll have to sell. But there will be no lack of offers. Still, I do think he'll extend and they give him the option to leave after the upcoming season, probably by using a buy-out clause in the contract.

If he is on a free we will sign him, we are experts in that field now...

I think some poster said it best. Too much focus on price tag and value. Who cares if he is 30M? We are not going to get some world class superstar for 20M.

I want his kid. We need an attacking mid/creative player. Ozil in the middle would be great. I would be willing to pay 25-30M for this kid.

Isnt that going a touch to far??? i mean perspective and all that.

Plenty of quality, but no value im afriad.....apparently.

Yet we're willing to spend £10 mils on the likes of Chico and Smalling who are unproven talents. Makes no sense to me.

Dont forget Diouf ;)

But no your quite right it baffles me to, our transfer policy has baffled me for a long time now to be perfectly honest, weve seemingly become utterly obsessed on signing the same player over and over and over and over again, if hes young (preferably under the age of 20) and unknown hes on our list, if he has the slightest reputation/profile he isnt, if hes overcome puberty he definitely isn’t.

Give me 1 Ozil for 25 million over Diouf/Hernandez/Smalling/Obertan for a combined 30...but there we go....

Its all about Value.

They'll be worth £30m+ in years to come!! Hopefully :nervous:

I hope so too, but I'm just making the point.. they've played for nothing teams and done nothing of real note. Yet we spend such big amounts of cash on them.

Nail on head.

Shebby Singh on ESPN says he is lucky to have seen, in his generation, Lionel Messi and Mesut Ozil.

No way is he United caliber.. I can't believe how many people here have been blinded by his "abilities". He movement without the ball is terrible and is a liability when his team are in trouble. He wasn't even a absolute starter until this season.

We have Anderson, so is on his way to become a huge star, Gibson who has ability to score a lot of goals and Obertan as well.. So no need for Özil here. Hope City "get" him so the laughing can continue.
