do you really believe some random muppet in a forum called admin?

If we are interested, and if we want him, I'm sure we'll choose the appropriate time. We snapped up Berbatov in the final hour.

Re. Berbatov. we might have snapped him up in the kast hour but i m convinced that there was lot of activity going on behind the scene for some time

Spurs were not that desperate to sell him. In Ozil's case if they don't this Summer they could lose him for free. The more time passes, the more his price tag diminishes.

It's not like everybody is interested in him(which is odd), so I think we are in position to play a waiting game(if we're interested).

It seems like no one is interested, but that's clearly bollocks. Until someone makes a bid, anyone could be interested and Madrid, Barca, or whoever else is linked with Ozil is in the exact same position as us.

What's the logic behind that? What relevance has the Ireland game got to do with bidding for a player?
Possibly that our pre-season games are done after that (not including the Charity Shield) and the management/squad will be settled in Manchester after that game, therefore giving Özil the opportunity of getting a tour of Carrington and finalising the deal etc.

He's on his way to Manchester.

karlsentk: mesut özil rules out a move from werder bremen this summer (bild am sonntag). "i'm here till 2011".

@karlsentk: özil: might just be a move to get the aking price down. bremen really need to cash in this summer

@honigstein: @karlsentk Özil is well-advised by his agent. makes a lot of sense to stay put another year and grow a bit more. he's still a bit young

@honigstein: Werder: selling or not makes little difference as replacement would cost similar money. also more important for them to reach CL group stage

@honigstein: Khedira situation was different for Stuttgart, they had enough CMs already. Werder, though, need Özil

Perhaps it's not a matter of just bidding and actually working on the deal/personal terms etc. After the Ireland game is when SAF and Gill will be in Manchester for a decent amount of time.

Supposedly Ozil doesn't get done with his vacation till Monday (2nd) - at latest United will be on their way up to Ireland on the 3rd. Doesn't leave much time for negotiations.

So any kind of deal being worked on or even a signing etc most logically would be happening after the Ireland game. Not that it means anything or that we are going to sign him but, the timing on when it may happen does make sense.

Well, Werder definitely would like to sell him when there's a good bid or at least extend his contract so that they get a decent fee for him next year. Allofs talking about Özil on a daily basis is proof for that, it's IMHO basically a 'come and get him' plea. But firstly, they won't sell at any price, as those quotes say, at the moment, he's basically irreplaceable and a small offer won't make up for his loss. Secondly, you can't sell a player against his will. If Özil wants to see out his contract so that he can go to Spain after this season and receive a huge signing on fee, then there is nothing Werder can do about it.

I'm still disappointed that we didn't make a huge bid for him long before the World Cup. He is such a great talent, he's always been but in my books, the ship has sailed for us.

Hell, if United can get him on a free next year, fine by me, value at its finest

What if we lose him to a title rival? or worse yet a club in Spain (i think thats worse because he will obiously think Spain is greater than the PS)? At £12m he is worth a gamble but our scouts/SAF seem to think differently

Doubt it. If he goes on a free, it's more likely he'll end up in Spain with Real or Barca. If we want to sign him, it will be this transfer window, otherwise I doubt we'll get him.

If he wants to see out his contract this year, so that he gets a huge signing on fee, then money is his prime motivation. And United cannot compete as regards signing on fees or wages.

I'd be surprised if Jose sells Kaka, I reckon he will believe that he can get the best out of him so why sell him, and to be fair if he does Kaka is a special fecking player

To be perfectly honest if he gets to the stage where he can sign on a free, he will not come to Utd. He has already said he likes Spain and for free every top team in Europe will be in for him. If we are really astute we'll wait till the last few days of August (if no-one else does te same) and buy him for < £10m and loan him back to Bremen for the year. That way everyone wins.

Why loan him back? We wouldn't do that, there'd be no point.

true if we leave it that late we might as well make a 50,000 bid with the promise to loan him back :) Any old figures still better then nothing - it's not a bad idea as they keep him and atleast make something. That said it's not premiership experience. Kiddin'

What a fecking shit article, badly worded and the author can go feck himself.

This isn't happening guys, the guy is basically open to anyone of the top two clubs in Spain or England and the fact is no one has put in a bid. We've had countless interviews going around in circle basically stating "I am under a contract with Bremen and if someone doesn't come to buy me I'd honor the contract."
There is nothing on our part that suggest we might be interested in him.

Özil is going no where its been mentioned on Radio here in Germany, I know because I heard it this morning myself, that he is seeing his contract out and staying at Werder next season so it looks like the dream is over.

Oh, well if German radio - a much more reputed source than the rest of this media circus - says it, then we might as well pack up and go home. :(

Potentially 30 days more of this. I can't wait for transfer deadline day. :D

Sorry but that's what he s saying, which can be different from his real intentions.

He is throwing the ball into Werder bremen's court...knowing that they cannot afford to let him see his contract out and leave on a free. So in reality they have two sensible options, either convince him to sign a new contract or else sell him.

imo what he really wants to say is that if ask a big transfer fee for him, he will stay there and leave on a free next season.

Whatever his intentions and I agree that he will push Werder to either make a new contract that he dictates or walk, he is at this moment in time staying, in Focus Magazine there is a report on this where Werder say there happy, but if a offer came in and depending on Özil that he still could go.

Özils agents and Werder have been working on a new contract, but until now they havent reached any sort of agreements according to the same article.
