No way mate. He won't be signing a new contract any time soon and with only a year left he will definitely be sold IMO.

I remember him saying he intends to see it out and he also stated that Bremen want him to stay.

EDIT:

However, the World Cup Golden Ball nominee has insisted he will stay put next season, claiming that he wants to honour his contract, which expires in 2011.

"Bremen want me to fulfil the contract and so do I," he told Bild.

"I have always said that I want to fulfil my contract, that is important to me."

Signed - Mesut Ozil.

Why would Bremen wish him to stay, and then leave for nothing next season, when they can get probably at least 15m for him now? It doesn't make sense.

It would be typical if he went to Bayern Munich

So I thought, but I don't think they will be interested with Ribery and Robben already at the club as they'd find it difficult to slot him in their current formation. On the other hand they could use him behind a striker with van Bommel or a new defensive midfielder and Schweinsteiger behind, but that'd leave space for one striker only and I assume it'd be Muller - who I think isn't suited to be up front on his own. Had they got rid of Ribery when Madrid moved in for him it'd be a no-brainer really and I'd expect Ozil to be there.

They probably don't, they're not a particularly rich club and could certainly use that £15m they could easily get to bring a couple of new faces. Ozil is a luxury player for a team like them because realistically they aren't going to make an impact in CL or Bundesliga, had they been challengers in either it'd make sense to keep him but they're not.

Heh, name me one player aged 21 or under who you could realistically buy for £15m with the same ability as Ozil. Or any age for that matter. Of course, you obviously dont have the scouting system Bremen do and its likely that they would go for a much cheaper and slightly inferior player who could do the job, but Ozil is something else. Maybe they think keeping him even for one more year is a better idea than to cash in on the cheap and spend it on a few players, I dont know.

Lets remember that when Germany went to 10 men at the WC it was Ozil asked to play as the lone striker, not Muller who was still on the pitch. Which I felt was a bit odd, but its indicative of Low's thoughts on Muller's ability to be a lone striker.

Yeah, but that would be 15m + wages to have him for just one season, and then he's gone, for no fee.

Even Man. City might baulk at that. So I just don't see Bremen being willing to.

so what are the odds of signing this boggle eyed lad?

I'd give you fairly long odds.

Mainly because I'd love him here and have rated him for quite a while. And I dont believe anyone else is as good as he would be for us, in the position he plays. Usually when I rate someone that highly we sign someone else. :p

Maybe I should think he's terrible, so we sign him.

Strangely odds have disappeared

hm, having in mind that all the clubs he's been related to have plenty of depth in that area, I guess dropping the odds seems a wankable prospect.

I agree. I think he has "value" written all over him, having in mind his contract ends next year.

He seems so mature, I'd guess he'd walk into our first eleven straight away. Great talent with the best years ahead of him, he's not a temporary solution but could really be a long-term replacement for Scholes.

I would take Gourcuff as well, having in mind his poor WC. But either of them would work imo. Ozil, however, seems to be the flavour of the month.

I dont believe anyone playing in the hole is going to replace what Scholes gives us in central midfield. Rather he'd make life post-Scholes easier and suppliment the new midfield playmaker by giving someone to play the ball into and receive one twos at will.

I think he'll play more advanced role with Fletcher and Carrick deep. That's of course if he comes. Scholes today plays deep, unlike in his early days(I suppose Ozil would occupy that role - more advanced). I don't think he's the same player like Scholes, especially when it comes to work rate, but surely he'd give us that spark in midfield that Scholes gives us.

Cause creativity in midfield is what we really lack atm. Also I'd like to see Ozil playing in CM in a 4-4-2 to see how he can cope.

He'd give us creativity in the final third, but he wouldnt give us control and high possession in midfield. So the more of the ball that we have the better for him. Think of him needing a Schweinsteiger to find him in his dangerous positions, so that he can deliver the final ball. Someone to give him accurate and repeated supply without fail, no matter if we're playing Wigan or Barcelona.

That man really isnt Michael Carrick.

he can keep possession for sure, but I agree he doesn't have that distribution as a playmaker, he can't control the tempo on his own but he has time. He's quick on the turn, has quick feet and given time, Fergie can mould him into a complete midfielder. The biggest question for him IMO is can he play in a 4-4-2 atm. I think playing alongside Carrick and Fletcher in 4-5-1 would give a right balance in midfield.

I agree that Carrick doesn't look exactly as a deep lying playmaker atm, but if he can regain his confidence and form, who knows?

Out of what we have atm, can't see the player you are describing. Maybe Banega next Summer

The truth about Mesut Özil

Kein Vorvertrag bei Real +++ Werder will 16 Mio Ablöse +++ Er geht nur zu einem Top-Klub
No pre-contract at Real Madrid +++ Werder want a fee of around 16m Euros +++ He will only move to a top club

Real, Barcelona, ManUtd, Arsenal - or Valencia, Sevilla, Tottenham or Man City? Should Özil move this summer, then only to a club with a perspective to win the league and challenge for the Champions League trophy. Tottenham and Valencia are therefore not an option*.

*Neither obviously Man City.

I've never been crying out to get this fella signed up, in fact it's been annoying me like crazy all the muppets with thier "Ozil the answer" posts. But hell, €16m? We paid that for Smalling for god sake!

exactly, smalling is a year younger and proved nothing, Ozil has proven to have what it takes, it's insane if someone doesn't buy him at that price.

Errr, Smalling proved himself at non-league Maidstone!! That's value.

All joking aside, I find it very hard to believe Ozil would go for that cheap.

World Cup you say? Pfffft.

he only has a year left on his contract and has signaled a willingness to see it out and leave on a free next summer. WB are not in a position of strength here. They can hold out for value for him, but if he (for example) said I will only move to Man United, what other clubs offer becomes less important. It would then be a case of paying WB what they think he would be worth for that one season.

Ozil is not going to be a central midfielder. He plays many positions and that isnt one of them.

That depends whether it becomes an auction for his signature.

Many so called auctions are conducted in the media with certain clubs faking an interest to push the price up of a player to the detriment of their rivals.I am sure agents have their sticky little fingers in there as the more a player gets sold for the better commision the snidey little cnuts get.
