Mesut Özil

It was only a pre-season game

I trust Fergie's judgement

So do i, Ozils never coming here, to be fair though the clubs transfer policy went to the tits ages ago, it seems every good player were linked with weve got 'no interest' in, makes you wonder who we are 'interested' in.

Hey ho, had enough of the transfer window anyway lets get the season going.

And from ChristianMCR (works in football) on Twitter:
"Werder will hold out for the maximum fee and #mufc won't enter that bidding. Very open where Özil is going to end up."

edit: in all honesty I think we'll see more and more Smalling, Diouf, Hernandez type signings, deals where they're suddenly done and without any bidding wars. That pretty much rules out flavour of the month players like Ozil.

He'll end up at one of our major rivals or a major european rival, go on to be the superstar he already appears well on the way to becoming all for a very modest fee etc.

Talents like him dont come around often.

Why for a modest fee? Bremen are going to do their best to push it up and there should be enough interest, I know he's not going to fetch £30m+ because of his contract, but I'd expect them to be able to hold out for at least £20m

20 million for that lad in this climate is very very modest, when you look at the package your getting, the age of the player, the years of potential service, the potential resale value, the sheer quality of the player at such a tender age etc its a snip, in a market where players like James Milner are being talked about at around the 30 million mark anything around 20 for Ozil is chicken feed really, the lads going to be a very special player, natural playmakers are a rare breed as it is, one so young and as visibly talented as Ozil wont come around often, whatever club gets him will be laughing, he already looks a world beater at 22!

It does make the whole value mantra look even more bizzare really.

Is he really what we need?

He played a free role just behind the strikers at the world cup. Berbatov has played in pretty much same space. Park also plays a similar role in Europe. If a striker is signed or Hernandez hits it off then Rooney might just take up a similar role to Ozil.

Like pogue mentioned, if there is a very special player you buy him and he will fit in. In this case Ozil is that good and will improve every team he goes to. He will be a star because he is willing to play for the team and whether it be on the left wing, right wing, second striker or AM in a three man midfield, he would help united. Hes at a good price and very young.

If we dont get him, we dont get him and we will still have a good if not great team, however if there is a chance then I think we should go for it.

25mil is peanuts for somebody of his potential, given that he can play at least 10 more years at the highest level, and the likes of Milner is going for over 20mil. Ozil is a risk-free transfer and surely that has to be considered, given his age, potential as well as the huge sell-off value. If need be, i say sell Anderson/Gibson/Carrick, and top up the balance.

This thread used to be interesting before the World Cup. During the world Cup, it got worse and the posts from yesterday leave me speachless. I love Özil, but seriously - this is pure rubbish. Someone claims she or he has seen a guy at the airport who maybe is or maybe isn't Özil and everyone gets giddy.

For your information: There's a new report in today's BILD. Özil is currently still hollidaying in Spain and will leave the country only at the beginning of the weekend. The BILD is pretty much the best-informed source when it comes to Bundesliga transfers and they say he's still in Spain.

According to sports director Allofs, he's expected to start his training on monday. There are no concrete offers whatsoever, just some clubs showing themselves interested but without any real offer.

So everyone better calm down and stop spoiling this thread with poor transfer speculation based on nothing at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but have we ever signed a German? I'm struggling to think of one..

Established players - I don't think so - a couple of youngsters yes, like Neumayr and Zieler.

Hargreaves is the closest thing to a german we have signed :)

So he will go to Spurs for between £15-£20 Million, become a sucess then have a £35 Million price tag slapped on him.

Anywhere but United or Arsenal is a step down for this lad

I just get the impression all the talk of him being available for 12-15mil is unlikely. I mean he's clearly a talented lad so if it's true then why has their been very little news regarding his transfer?

If United will spend £10million on an entirely unproven Central Defender then surely the idea of spending £12-£15million on a kid who has proven himself to at least show he can compete at the very top and shown he can add something to the team that maybe the team is lacking then something strange is going on.

Why pass up the opportunity. I wonder if the opportunity just doesnt exist.

Odd that there's literally no mention of this really this morning. Probably a few people from RAWK on the WUM at skybet HQ!

He doesn't "add something", he has literally carried Werder Bremen for a whole season.

Sorry, I haven't seen his holiday blog.

Good enough?

Lailiani take it down a notch.
No need to jump at everyone's throat just because they don't know where Özil is every given second.

Since when has Manchester turned into a nice place?

You do realise you're on a forum for a Manchester football club, right? And that an awful lot of people on here are from Manchester, right? Why not stop being such a complete weapon for a change? If the thread is annoying you don't fecking open it.

It's not about knowing where he is in every second, it's about the transfer muppetry. As much as I hate this term, the whole airport story was muppetry at its absolute worst. Start making up a story about a player you've seen at the airport and in the street, and as unbelievable as it is, people start believing it. Either this is intended to see whether the papers will copy this rumour or it's the worst rubbish I have read on here, ITKs in the newbies used to get for lesser things much more stick (yes, even from you). Nothing wrong with transfer storys, but this one isn't even based on a newspaper.

If people are stupid enough to believe everything they read here they are bigger muppets
