We have a 42 page thread on a player who there is sod all evidence we're interested in

Ekeke I rate your knowledge in football. And I haven't read the thread. Would you want Ozil at United?

There's a first time for everything!

I would want him at United but I wouldnt be under the illusion that he would solve all the problems we are facing in the coming seasons. ie. We'd still need to replace Scholes. Nani and Valencia still need to step up their goalscoring along with Gibson and so on.

He's just a brilliant player in the making, most likely on his way to becoming the best player of his type in terms of current players. He would help the transition we'll be going through without Scholes and he might just be the best type of partner up top for the current Wayne Rooney.

I'd love it if we signed him, but I don't anticipate that we will. Players I think would improve us a lot are generally overlooked by United and go on to be stars of other teams. While we tend to pick someone I rate a bit less, and make them into a very good choice in their own right.

My personal take on Ozil, having watched him in the WC and for Germany's U-21s is that he's one of those rare and special talents that is worth signing without worrying about how he fits in the system/team.

Mind you, I thought the same thing about Anderson and that hasn't worked out too great.

Very true. We've been rather unlucky with Anderson though, considering he broke his foot before we signed him, and whenever he's looked like he's about to break through and cement a place he always seems to go and get injured.

Ozil and Anderson together in 3-4 years could be rather good.

It will work out IMO for Anderson. He's a great talent and Fergie will get the best out of him in due time.

I like the thought of both of them though. One is a brilliant passer and has a great touch, while the other is physically a beast, technically good and very quick.

Mainly because you are a bit too impatient for your own good. :D

One of the main problems is we still don't know what we have. His best position is unclear (if anything he looks at his best as a midfield harrier rather than a creative force) and he's struggled when playing in a two man midfield at times.

The flashes of potential are there for all to see, but at the moment we're arguably weakest in midfield, so there's slightly more pressure for him to show consistency quickly.

Given a good run of games, he'll excel IMO. I'd like to see him in a three man midfield as the most forward midfielder given a lisence to roam. I remember how utterly magnificent he was against Arsenal in his first season.

Anyone else fed up of seeing that picture of ribery every time you go into this thread?

was very impressed by Ozil at the WC and he'd be a great addition to any squad, esp given his age - he has the time to become a bedrock of a side for many years

Anderson just needs to get fit, he barely seems able to complete 90mins at the best of times an when he does he tends to get injured!? potentially the next edgar davids if he sorts himself out

they'd make a lovely pair them two

Not really bad luck on that one, he'd broken his leg and recovered before we even made a move for him so it's hardly as if that was unknown when we went for him. His problem seems to be more one of desire and determination.

Nah, as I keep saying, I think Anderson will come good.

What I didn't expect was that he would still be on the fringes of the first team at the age he is now, or that there could ever be even the faintest doubt he would be United quality.

Of course, that's more to do with the high expecations I had for him, more than anything else.

As for Ozil, he looks to be a much more intelligent and complete player than Anderson, despite being younger.

Does anyone know why he left Schalke, by the way? Fell out with the manager, any worrying attitude problems?

Sorry I've not really followed this thread.

Schalke offered Özil a contract extension, but he asked for higher wages. They fell out and he moved to Bremen.

For now. Anderson is on the brink of exploding and fufilling his potential. When he does it will shock many while making people like you and me who have had high expectations for him feel very chuffed.

Re Anderson - he has now had 2 nasty injuries now. The cruciate ligament injury while playing for us and the broken ankle for Porto. It was said that injury caused him to loose the explosive pace he had in his Gremio and early Porto days.

Will he ever be that player again?

Hope so. He's looked lightening quick at times for United.

When he's on top of his game he's almost unplayable. It's just that we've only seen him at his very best so rarely.

Pure speculation but I think his biggest problem is his conditioning. When he was at Gremio/Porto he was at an age where natural fitness is enough. Since he's got older and had to start really working on his conditioning he's struggled with lasting the pace and often looks to be carrying too much timber.

We hope he will. I hope he hasn't been ruined the way Del Piero was. For example few still remember Del Piero was almost the equal of a young fat Ronaldo pre injuries.

What are you on about?

Del Piero was, physically, always a different beast to Ronaldo regardless of injuries. Both great players buy don't suggest he'd have been similar to Ronaldo without the injuries...

Anderson might be a promising player but to say he "could he even far better" than Del Piero is pushing it...

True.

And the shit diet he is probably eating in Manchester

Anderson can potentially be the answer to our prayers. True, his decision making may be rash at times but he has that creative mindset that our squad needs. He has an eye for the killer pass and can penetrate the opponent's midfield when he's playing well.

He does have an eye for a killer pass. But he needs to be more Scholes than Veron and do a good job making sure we keep hold of the ball. Not just look for the hollywood pass each time he receives a pass.

Yeah, without a doubt. But this quality he possesses in addition with his physical strength can be indicative of extremely good things to come. I found in some games last season where we needed this type of creativity from the midfield department. In the beginning of the season, this niche was occupied by Giggs and Giggs only. In fact, we relied on him so much, we looked utterly clueless without him.

Apparetly his odds for him to move to United have been slashed to evens.

Maybe. Although Brazilian footballers seem to have a habit of turning into lard-arses, no matter where they ply their trade.

Yeah, he's in good company.

I am not a betting man. This means?

Theoretically, it means the event is just as likely to occur as it's not i.e 50% probability. So if you bet £10 on something that's even money then if you win you get your £10 plus your stake multiplied by 1/1 (evens), hence £20 in total.

However . . .

It's in no way a serious betting market - there's a very low cap (relatively) on the amount you can actually bet on a player being signed by any given club.

It's mostly done to get a bit of publicity. The tabloids initially link us (or any club) to a player, then betfair and the like set up odds on it. They then get publicity through the papers throwing BETFAIR HAS SLASHED THE ODDS ON OZIL JOINING UNITED TO 3/1 OMG! into one of the transfer columns or articles.

Then papers get to appear as if they're putting something of substance into their (usually bollocks) transfer stories.

It's a neat arrangement that anyone seriously looking at whether we'll sign someone shouldn't buy into.

looks a bit lard-arsey already for a lad of his age - he'd probably need to work on it a bit

you mean his diet would be different anywhere else or do you think he's piggin out on black pudding every day? Maybe he could go completely lardy and live/play in America - fatarse capital of the world:lol:

It's hard not to see the potential in him but I wonder if we'll actually see it and if we do, how long will we enjoy it for before he fecks off to Spain or other latino country? Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't feel he fits on several levels despite his natural attributes.

Bookies Slash Odds On Ozil Coming To United !
25/07/2010

Bookmakers have today slashed odds on the possibility of Mesut Ozil joining Manchester United. The Reds had been joint 4/1 favourites with Real Madrid, but today the bookies have slashed that to 2/1 evens, with Madrid still priced at 4/1. The development comes after the 21-year-old's price-tag was dropped to just £12 Million...
As a teenager, Sir Alex attempted to sign the starlet - however a deal was not struck. A United scout once said of the player: 'He's like a ghost, the way he arrives into the box unnoticed'. Ozil has been the find of South Africa 2010, playing in all Germany's 6 games in the World Cup - finding the net once, and setting-up an abundance of goals.

Ozil has just one year left on his Bundesliga contract, and many clubs including Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign the youngster on a free in one years time. However, Bremen know they won't get a penny if they don't sell Ozil soon, and have dropped their asking price by £8 Million - which stood at £20 Million just a few days ago. With United and Real Madrid hot on the trail.

I have a feeling boys, a feeling in my bones. Bremen being my "second" club United is the only place I would be happy seeing him.

That's sort of skilful, but a bit minging.

Sums him up really.
