Messi?

Messi did an interview with the Guardian in 2011. He mentioned it then.
In the build up to the Champions League final, wasn't it? Remember been bemused by it at the time as I didn't have a clue who Furlong was.

Kicks ball at rival fans, evades taxes and has rumored to have bullied some fellow players. I never understood it either and if you had mentioned any of those things here on the Caf a few weeks ago you'd be laughed at and probably abused.

Ronaldo has the worse reputation of the two, but that's because he's perceived as being an egomaniac. I don't think that he is, I think he's just supremely driven and confident. In many ways Ronaldo has shown a far higher standard of behavior than Messi over the last few years, although neither of them are angels, obviously.

Paul Furlong  ...That would be great if true, but surely not. Has to be a WUM?...and I'm probably a bit daft for even suggesting you were being serious.

feck me. Not to say he won't end up at Chelsea and not to say they aren't a top team these days. Back then though they were a nothing team, and it would be a bit strange for an Argentinian kid to follow them. Tall tale from him then I reckon.

 Best post exchange ever contender.

As crazy as I sounds, even if he was available, I don't think I'd want him! He'd cost crazy money and his wages would be through the roof!...Also theres no guarantee that it would work out for him in the premier league which is a lot more physical than la liga!

Out of the following three players, who would people want (none of them is an acceptable answer)?
Messi £250m
Ronaldo £150m
Bale £120m

Not sure I'd want Messi tbh - it would all be about him, all the time and the extra £100m could be used to buy 2 world class players. Funny as it is I'd probably go for Bale, but only because he's younger than Ronaldo

At these prices? Noone. Messi is worth it, if you exchange his price with that of Ronaldo, but at 250 million? We can buy a whole squad of world class players. Ronaldo isn't worth it at 150, since his age is 30 and he isn't getting any younger and Bale for 120 million? That's gotta be a joke. We can buy Reus for 25 million who is just as good as Bale.

Messi and Ronaldo five years ago would be worth 100-150m.

Bale is not and never was worth anywhere near those amounts.

He'll cost the same amount of money as the entirety of cities new training complex

Just read that from sport.es and looks like is not the first time he decides to be "sick" when children is involved, not going to a hospital:

La relación entre Luis Enrique y Messi no pasa por su mejor momento. Tras la decisión del técnico de dejarle el domingo en el banquillo en Anoeta, el futbolista argentino se ha ausentado esta mañana del entrenamiento de puertas abiertas en el Mini Estadi. Messi, según un comunicado oficial del club, ha sido baja por una gastroenteritis. Posteriormente, Messi tampoco ha acudido a las visitas a los hospitales.

How do you know he didn't turn up rather than had gastroenteritis?
I'm not sure but I think he was referring to the time it was reported that he missed training under Guardiola after not being involved in a game ( I think against Sevilla) where it was widely reported that he was unhappy about not featuring in the game and subsequently did not turn up to training in order to express his frustration and discontent at the situation. Perhaps due to there being reports of him missing training before when he did not feature in a match as much as he would have liked, people are not sure whether or not to believe the gastroenteritis story.

Out of the 3 I would choose Ronaldo, he is physically superior to messi and he would be a fantastic CF when he slows down in his 30's. Bale may lose his pace is a few years and after that he is not really effective. Ronaldo when he is about 32-33 I still think could Score 25 goals

Messi at 35 would be like Pirlo, do not overlook that

Messi hands down, he's only 27 so maybe he has another 5/6 years of top football left in the tank. His all round game is brilliant, even if he lost his pace and explosiveness, there are just so many other aspects of his game which are world class.

FFP put an end to such transfer talk for the next years. Some clubs could get together such money but only with crazy actions.
No Messi, no Ronaldo for 150+ the next 5 years. If the CL money and the TV money grows even more for the top top clubs in europe, which it should, then we can talk again.
Wouldnt be shocked if football sees such a transfer in 2020 or a bit later.

Why would messi cost £250m
His buy out clause is €200m which is more like £150m
And at that price id much rather messi than exercise the falcao option

What's all this nonsense about Messi? Are we rumoured or chelsea?

If , and I don't believe it for a second he does leave, then how can it be that as the Telegraph claim only Chelsea, City, or PSG could afford him? surely with FFP they are three clubs that couldn't, journalists only seem to mention this when it suits, this FFP thing is either in or it isn't.

For me the only clubs that could 'legally' afford him are Madrid, Bayern, and at a big push us.

If by some freakish chain of events he was for sale, I am certain we would be all over it.

He would easily justify his insane fee and wages.

Not ever gonna happen unfortunately.

Would be a joy to watch him in the premier league.

If he genuinely was available I'd see him go to Bayern. The Guardiola link is simplistic but I'm sticking to it.

If first Fabregas and now Messi join Jose, the Barca fans will have a full meltdown

Lionel Messi has took a step closer to joining chelsea after Andreas Iniesta unfollowed the Argentine on instagram.
