Messi?

And as good as Messi obviously is there's no telling if he'd adapt to English football (I know how laughable that sounds). Also, one nasty injury and a third of a billion would be down the crapper.

Messi would be the ultimate muppet transfer, even if he could be bought for 150m (including wages). The risk is just too much. Better to divide the money up and sign two or three top class players.
The latter would be the case with every transfer ever. If that was the consideration then Real wouldn't have signed Bale and Ronaldo. Messi would have no problem adapting. He'll piss on this league in that Chelsea team. It would be absolutely awful.

For £100m yes - for £200m no

I just have a feeling that Messi is past his prime. He is still insanely good yes - but I just don't think the Messi of 2011-2013 will ever return. ANd unlike Ronaldo, I can't see Messi being that effective well into his 30's

And let's face it - he turns 28 in the summer.

In other Words - I would rather take Ronaldo at 30 than Messi at 28

With an already good team, an excellent manager whose bullshit is lapped up by the media and the simpletons, and Messi; Chelsea's global standing would go through the roof. Even the thought makes me shudder.

He would come for some 150m, and Chelsea could garner that by selling some highly rated youngsters at exhobitant prices, plus looting desperate teams for the Shurrle's and the Cech's, like they looted us and PSG for Mata and Luiz respectively.

I actually honestly see that the other way around. Ronaldo relies too much on his physical attributes, where Messi doesn't really. But yeah, it's football, so it's always a ton of variables to consider etc.

Let's not derail this thread, but I agree, no 1 player is worth that (200m) money, let alone even 100m. Adidas will help us out ;)

if Messi joined Chelsea I think the ego of Ronaldo would force him to come back to United just to score more goals than him

Agree with that. Unsurprisingly :)

Sweet Moses, if Lionel Messi ends up at fecking Chelsea it'd be a disaster for United.

Woodward should be offering him wages that'd blow Chelsea's FFP restrictions out of the water.

Where would we play him and could he fit in our team?
He would stop development of our young players.

Jokes aside, I dont see him leaving Barcelona ever and dont see us paying that crazy amount for him.

We should sign Messi from them and loan them all our unwanted players given they can't sign anyone.

We get a great player, they get great players, they can replace La Masia with Anderson.

Can you image Messi at Stamford Bridge under the guidance of the man of the moment/decade Jose Mourinho.

As the sun shines down on the cauldron that is Stamford Bridge,as bloods boil on the pitch and emotions sway back and forth much like plastic flags of the Blue Bridge. The thousands attending and the millions home watch together as one as Lionel Andrés Messi one of the greatest to grace the green green turf of not only the Blue Bridge but the game itself is tracking back to tackle Jonathan Ronald "Big Jonny" Walterson on the halfway line.

Oh what a sight Oh what a sight indeed.

We'd have to get rid of a few players while also playing guys out of position to fit him in. The best I can think of would be:

Blind, Fellaini
di Maria, Messi, Mata
Rooney
Or:

Blind
Fellaini, di Maria
Rooney, Messi, Mata
Anyone got a problem with big Felli haha?

Even the idea that Messi might go to Chelsea is frightening.. With the transfer ban, hope Barca bend over backwards for him and make sure he doesn't leave them.. Why isn't Bayern being mentioned? Surely he could be lured by Pep..

Feck that bro - we're getting Strootman and Hummels/Godin as well! Sell the deadwood! ALL of them ;)

---------------------DDG
Rafael-----Smalling-----Hummels/Godin---Shaw

----------------------Blind
--------------Strootman---AdM
----------------------Mata

----------------Messi-----Rooney

Second XI:
--------------Lindegaard/Amos
Jones-------Evans------Rojo------Blackett

-------------------Carrick
-------------Herrera-------Pereira
---------------------Januzaj

----------------Wilson----RvP
*sorry, going full muppet in this thread. Must stop!

edit: feck, went all muppet and forgot to add my man crush, Ander :(

Haha, he's not going anywhere. He's probably unhappy and is doing stuff to show it and press his case.

Wow! Do we really already have some "formation-masturbation" in this thread?

I think Messi feels that Enrique isn't the man for Barca. The coach will be sacked and he will stay.

Can he handle sharing the limelight with Fellaini and Phil Jones? If so I'm all for it.

Doubt our formation would matter, he's a 50+ goal a season player.

Think Messi would be up his own arse enough to wanna come to Utd just to score more goals for us than Ronaldo?

Can any club afford him without failing FFP? Not aware of every club's profit margins but can't imagine many teams can afford to take a £100m + hit on transfer fee alone then, factoring in wages, agent fees, signing on fee etc., without coming close to failing.

United and Madrid could buy him for £100 million without selling a player (we'd have to let go Falcao though) and Bayern could probably do it too but might have to sell a player or two.

To an extent. He'd play well in any system, and score a shitload of goals in most, although he'd obviously benefit most from being in his best position, probably the central sort of false 9 role.

Still, all semantics, since this ain't happening.

Woodward you know what to do lad!

------------------Smalling----Carrick----Jones------------------------

Ah go on then.

Could a club like United/Bayern sign him regardless and just accept failing FFP for one year? You'd get a fine and transfer restrictions at worst I presume. Balance that alongside having Lionel Messi lining up for you week in week out and I don't think it's a difficult choice. Obviously that's a huge oversimplification but you see the idea.

Probably biased, but I think if Messi had to join an English side he'd prefer City or United over Chelsea purely because of the amount of Argentina team mates he'd have to settle in with. Aguero is his best mate supposedly. Then he's got Di Maria, Zaba, Demichelis, Rojo and Caballero who he'll already be acquainted with. I can't imagine he'd give any serious consideration to anything concerning Ronaldo's history.

But Aguero and Messi in the same team is beyond unfair so he's gotta be Utd's :D

We can send Anderson, Fletcher, Rafael, Lingard, Nani, Chicharito, Lindegaard and some other to Barcelona.

There is no chance he leaves Barca. He runs the place, he's just playing games to get what he wants.

 exactly what I thought when I read that. Utter desperation seeing a clue in that .

He obviously came in to the training center to say goodbye to all his teammates, who were obviously not at the training center.

The mystery continues.

He came to the training, but they were all hiding, and he's now angry and wants out.

Messi runs Barca not Luis Enrique....they will get rid of Luis way before they get rid of Messi.
IMO - This is a ploy by Messi's management to get his way...again. Its not an irregular occurrence with players nowdays.

You guys should ask the United management to start following Messi' instagram account fast. Make it more juicy :D
