Messi vs Ronaldo|2011-2012

When I see Cristiano Ronaldo scoring hattrick for Real my first though it "he's machine, unstoppable", but when Messi does something first thing that crosses my mind is "he can't be human, no way". Think that's main difference between those two, I'll always see Cristiano Ronaldo as a player superior to the rest, someone who scores for fun and is great athlete, while when it comes to Messi I'm lost for words in describing his presence on the pitch. As good as Cristiano is he's nowhere near Messi class, boy has God given x factor, that extra something which makes him different and better to the rest of the footballing world.

As I said last season, Ronaldo has now because just about the goals. Messi gets the goals but offers quality in his all round play as well. As of now, there's no contest. There will be those like Cal? who will use the goals scored statistic to somehow make it seem close but as things stand it isn't. You do have to take into account the fact that Messi plays for one of the great football teams but at the same time Ronaldo plays for a pretty good one himself and should be showcasing his all round game if he has one.

And I saw the first half of last nights game and his (Ronaldo's) efforts against Alves were just embarrassing. If Nani did that I'd be livid. Alves has pace but he has little else as a defender. Sadly all Ronaldo did was knock the ball forward and run as fast as he could. That's what you expect a Gareth Bale to do. If you're playing Barca and you get so many chances to run at Alves you simply can't afford to keep losing possession on the one on one.

that's how I used to feel when I saw Georgie play. Talent like that doesn't come along very often

All we need is for Cal to show up and the new season is sorted :D

 Yep, I knew this thread was missing something.

FWIW, I wonder if Cal? will finally give in, hold his hands up (which is not great shame) and admit that Messi is by a little distance, TBPITW. (that's if he hasn't already).

Eurgh, this thread again.

All I can say is, Ronaldo would be comfortably the best player of his generation if Messi didn't exist.

Messi is far and away the best player of his generation and possibly any generation, and to even THINK of denying that now would be farcical.

Has Ronaldo ever performed against Barcelona? For us, or for Real? I mean i know he scored that goal in the copa, but apart from that. I can't think of one stand out performance.

Put it this way, when your club pays 80 mil for you, twice the amount of zidane, they should expect the kind of performances against your closest rivals that Messi puts in.

There is something wrong from a psychological POV with Ronaldo when he faces Barcelona. He's good enough to perform a lot better against them, he just can't do it.

This.

I just think he takes the Messi v Ronaldo thing to close to heart. He loses his head and tries to out do him. If he focused more on the team play in these games, 'like the Copa final' he'd get much better results.

I agree with that marchi (we finally agree on something haha). If he can't be better than him individually, he can try to compensate by being a better teammate.
It really is a tough balance to find for him but it is what it would take to be better than Messi

Messi can't seem to stop scoring against Madrid.

What is his record against them? Must be approaching recordbreaking levels.

 who's the commentator? He sounds like a pissed Irishman trying to do a Geordie accent.

"He gets his violin out, and plays the sweiinoest music"

It really wasn't that amazing of a goal. Our 2nd against City was better. This is where annoyance at the Barca **** fest comes from.

It is indeed sad to watch. He used to majestic for United, so creative, so intelligent and yet extremely deadly.

But hey if any one can ruin one of the greatest players it is Real Madrid.

His last season at United was far poorer than what he's produced for Madrid so far.

I actually felt sorry for Ronaldo when when Messi scored his first. Tries to track him, loses him and just slides on his knees, looking forlornly on as Messi dinks it over Casillas.

Can't have felt great at that point.

Messi is arguably the best player ever and certainly the best today.

Ronaldo is one of the best players ever and the 2nd best today.

Pretty simple.

Ronaldo got clipped by this teammate, I am sure he would have done better. That image may become iconic.

Been saying for ages Ronaldo just isn't the same player to watch any more, still a great goalscorer (FK's/headers/finishing), but his general play is shocking in comparison to how deadly he used to be, i.e. 1 v 1 against defenders.. at his best only Ashley cole could tackle him, these days even Daniel Alves can defend against him comfortably.

Messi has bigger fish to fry, he's just a far more silkier footballer.

No. The only reason Messi had a better last season is due to that one wrongly given red card in the CL semi. He was doing nothing in that first leg until Pepe got sent off.

Now, Ronaldo still managed to score more than him last season, and I expect him to do so again this season.

Darren Bent outscored Rooney, Drogba and Torres last season too.

No one will deny Rooney had a dreadful first half of the season, Torres a dreadful 2nd half and Drogba had malaria. Hardly comparable, is it?

By your logic goals are all that matter, and Messi keeps delivering on the big stage for Barcelona, and Ronaldo had another poor 2 games against them after having a whole summer to prepare and scoring plenty of goals against mediocre American sides. Why is that?

Goals are all that matter when your role is to score goals.

Funny Messi couldn't even score against mediocre American sides, perhaps he needs Xavi & Iniesta more than they need him.

lol, Cal, you fecking nutter.

I don't feel Messi is so much better than Ronaldo, and I don't agree he is the best of all time, although he could be.
Afterall Ronaldo did take 2 titles away from Messi last season.
