It’s just laughable that the Messi brigade keeps bringing up Messi winning a poll on a United forum as some kind of proof when it’s very well known fact that this poll was rigged.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but there’s nothing objective to claiming he’s a better player.
Since the start of Messi’s career in 2016, Ronaldo has received more votes than Messi in Ballon D’or voting in more years than vice versa.

Played for the most successful team in the history of English football, the most successful team in the history of Spanish football and the most successful team in the history of Italian football. All of them won before him and all of them will win after him.
When you talk about challenges at club level you talk about Maradona and Napoli. They have two league titles and one major European trophy in their entire history, and all these prizes were won when he was at the club at a time when the Italian league was by far the best in the world.
I do agree that playing for Portugal is the real challenge in Ronaldo’s career. They’re not as much of a minnow as some people like to disingenuously claim (to bolster CR): after all they have a great footballing history and have produced a number of legendary players and teams (we’re not talking about freaking Norway here….)
However, the country does have a small population and that will always make things harder. I’d class Portugal as similar to the Netherlands, though that country is a bit bigger.

Winning it more times does NOT mean he's had more votes in more years.
I believe Netherlands is superior than Portugal, but also they have a bit more population.
Even though it's not all about population otherwise, China,Japan, and USA would be dominating Football, but they don't have an actual footballing culture, which indeed makes hard for them to produce top/great players...Japan and USA have decades investing in Football, and still struggle to produce great players.
If you put that big money in countries with an actual football background like Romania,Ukraine,or Hungary you would see way better results.
Yeah I get that it’s not all about population. My main point was that Portugal has a real football history and culture. European Cup winning teams, Ballon D’Or winning players etc.
But if you have a country that has all that and is much bigger, you are going to be at a disadvantage for the most part.

It wasn't that game as it happened only a couple of years ago, but whenever it was it's beyond obvious that they closed the poll simply to mess with the most ardent Ronaldo fans here and it's safe to say they got their money's worth since people are still moaning about it. Someone recently said that the mods did it to "defend Messi's legacy" or something along those lines and I think that might be my favorite excuse so far.
Just cause we finished second last year doesn’t mean we are the second best team in the country. Chelsea had Lampard for half a year and Pool had so many injuries.
It is a challenge for him cause he is going to a team that hasn’t a trophy in 4 years and not won the league in a decade. It would not be challenge if he went to City. It’s a YUGEEEE challenge coming to United. It adds to his legacy if he is the one to drag this team to a trophy.

It wasn't that game, it was locked sometime during the Real Madrid 3-peat season with the only aim being ensuring Ronaldo didn't get over half the votes (it was locked at 50-50), then re-opened after Ronaldo left to Juve and lost to Ajax (?) in the CL, whilst Messi beat Liverpool 3-0. It was locked again after Messi & co capitulated 4-0 at Anfield, basically whoever did it had only one aim and that was to protect the feeling of the Messi brigade.
Only when the Messi brigade tries to use the result of the poll as some kind of proof of anything.

You do realize that Messi being there is a huge reason Barca were one of the best teams in history, don't you?
I do think that pre the 3 x CL wins by Ronaldo Messi was undoubtedly the GOAT. But after that and since I think Ronaldo has been the better, more influential player. Yes Messi got a copa last year which gets him back in the mix. I couldn’t really say which player is better. I’ll go for Ronaldo because I’m a united fan. But it’s closer than what either side says.

Yes it is only an opinion and will never be proven, but awards for the best player are always decided by votes. And Messi is winninh in that regard.

No they were not. 6 of the starting 11 in the WC final played for Barcelona. Of the 23 man squad, only 7 players were Barcelona players.

Spain was in fairly unique position since they were basically the best of La liga (Madrid, Barca, Valencia) + Silva, but with rarely seen chemistry before because many of them were playing together. so when you remove Messi, but add Casillas, Ramos and X. Alonso + Villa (2008 and 2010 topscorer) + Torres (2012 topscorer), there obviously won't be significant drop in quality since you also play against weaker opponents with worse managers on international stage. so while Spain had their golden age, whoever your best players were during the 2008-2012 period, when they were facing the all time best Spain, they were facing them with much weaker core than the one they had in their clubs. Spain wasn't playing against Madrid, PSG, Barca, United, Inter etc.

Alonso, Ramos and Villa were very important in the Spain best 11 and none were Barca players. (Villa joined Barca after the WC win).
Messi played in some very good Barca sides untill the their transfer strategy failed and management fecked them up. He still outshone everyone while he was there and was the main player to twat Real Madrid in the Classico's.

Messi hasn’t scored in el clasico since May 2018 - coincidentally Ronaldo’s last clasico.
PSG finishing second is just an indictment of their underperformance relative to the strength of their team though.
