This thread reeks of jumping on an aging Ronaldo tbh.
I say that as a Messi guy but come on..

A cherry picked one is better than a made up one that you quoted
 I didn't check it and don't know about it. But for me he has clearly been better in the finals so it doesn't really matter much if it was by scoring in them or not.

This thread is always good for a laugh, both sides cherry picking statistics or spells or even single games to "prove" they're right. Why are you so eager to convince the other side, their opinion will not change.

You've got to be kidding me...

I'm not a joker, the place for jokes is in the circus, I take my approach to the internet quite seriously, i've seen too many videos of the early Messi to conclude that his ability was already beyond great more than ten years ago.

@gibers
It is, but even I as a Berbatov > Bergkamp thread creator can see posters are using this as some sort of final confirmation when its nothing of the sort.

The football world thinks Ronaldo was better than Messi half of the last decade

LOL no, a majority of ronaldo ballon d’or wins are met with controversy, and just because ronaldo had a better season doesn’t mean the football world thinks he’s the better player. Poll those same people who is the better overall player and outside of Ronaldo’s mum everyone else would comfortably say Messi.

Come on Cal!

And you know this how?

Gotta give @Cal? the respect he deserves, when he defends Ronaldo, he sticks with facts and it is impossible to deny them at times.
Facts with a bent narrative and no context :) I really think it is not healthy to be so obsessed over something. I actually wonder what percentage of his post are about Ronaldo. Roughly 29k of posts, could 6-7k be about Ronaldo? Ridiculous. To each his own, I guess.

Messi is not aging ? Turning 31 very soon

Messi is 2 and a half years younger. He's not even turning 31 before Ronaldo turns 33 (which is in 3 weeks). Let's see how Messi is at 33, but Ronaldo has been beast the last couple of couple years.

Time catches up with everyone, especially someone who's been carrying bulk and pumping weights like Ronaldo.

When I compare them I don't compare their whole careers. In fact it can be argued Ronaldo has had a better career than Messi.

I am comparing them now, ability wise. This isn't the CR of 07-12 that was an individual monster. He is a box player that contributes almost nothing if his team doesn't get him the ball around the box and that is fine. He is now a finisher. My problem comes when you compare him to Messi who is involved in the build up, the final passes and the goals and can be motm in a game without even being close to goal.

Saying CR NOW is even close to his peak insults his younger self and is an insult to Messi whose level hasn't even dipped that much from his absolute peak whilst CR is 2 levels below his prime, so how can Ronaldo now be better than Messi? Makes no sense.

This is coming from a fan of El Kommander.

Does Messi lifts any weights at all ? He has the body of a normal person. It's incredible that he does everything without ever going to the gym

Dropping into midfield occasionally doesn’t make him a CM, unless you think Marcelo has been playing winger all his career
Not occasionally it was every game I watched him in he was playing as a CM and was responsible for the majority of their attacks

He has to reach the CL final for that, not get knocked out by Atletico again.

He’s got far better chances of doing that than Ronaldo does.

A this rate Ronaldo may be trying to cut it in Europa next season.

Well, considering Barca have an easier draw than Real, that’s very true.

looks really bad at the moment

Embarrassing. It's not like he is ever triple marked. His basics are just terrible. Outside of the box he is a travesty

Only difference between this season and last is his team can't give him balls in the bx as much. He will have games like this all season then "turn up"" in 3 games and be GOAT

He's just been a highlights player the past 4 years

Good in very small segments of matches

He's a luxury player, looks great when his team is on top as soon as they drop off he's not able to contribute and is a passenger

When players lose confidence it can seriously screw with them.

Given Ronaldo's usually extreme confidence/narcissism it's gonna be magnified a million times.

Some of those chances in the Villareal game would've gone in normally for him, just low on confidence means they don't fall for you.

His decline is gonna be reminiscent of Henry's I think. 2008/09 Henry was brilliant in combination with Eto'o and Messi then the next year he could barely run and didn't do a thing and off he went to New York. Can see Ronaldo in the MLS or similar very soon.

When he isn't scoring tap ins he doesn't bring much else to the team. Admittedly he's been absolutely sensational at scoring tap ins in recent years.

Messi completed the game and literally LOST the final by missing his penalty.

Yes Messi missed his penalty in the Copa America final, but he didn't in the world cup final. It seems that internationally Ronaldo's greatest achievement is getting his team to the final of an international tournament, something that Messi managed in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

You do realize there is a difference between getting injured and not being able to complete the game and playing all 3 games and making big contributions to LOSING said finals?

I wouldn't even say Cristiano got his team to the final. He just didn't stand out much at the Euro, with his outstanding contribution being he scored two goals to get Portugal to third place in the group, which would have been an elimination in any previous tournament. That Portugal team was just destined to win, no matter how terrible they were, or the fact that due to a tournament rule change they even got to compete past the group stages, they just were meant to win for whatever reason. Cristiano Ronaldo is not the reason for his team winning or even getting there IMO, he played a part but not an outstanding one like you'd expect from him. The fact that he's got an international trophy will always come with an asterisk that he didn't even play in the final.

Both of their international careers are disappointments. I do believe Messi's definitely a bigger impact on his team in club/international competitions. So CR7's sole international trophy is not going to change anything with that, nor will his 5 Ballon d'Ors (Ribery called and wants his 2013 back). However, they will both go down as legends and the best players of this era, I just think Messi will go down alongside Pele and Maradona.
